The pants are darker and the stripe is white in the middle then red then black. I actually noticed this when i saw the show but i didnt think anything of it. I hope they dont change the uniforms though. I love the way they look now.
In my opinion, those are the new jerseys.
My only take on the landgrantholy article is that the stripe on the pants WILL NOT change. The stripe on the pants mirrors the stripe on the helmet and that IS an ohio state jersey.
The larger numbers I believe will stick, and are a return to yesteryear like the article states.
As far as pants COLOR goes, the buckeyes have actually altered the color of the gray pants 2-3 times since signing with Nike in the 90s. The switches were so subtle most fans did not notice and the changes were do in large part because of a change in material that altered the color ever so slightly.
However, the most recent change to the pants color was to "darken" the gray slightly and to get away from the whitewashed-silver color of the pants. The even darker pants in that image would support the notion the buckeyes are looking to get to a darker gray in the pants. Not quite pro combat (Wisky) gray but definitely darker.

Looks like the uniform top is going back to a more scarlet hue, something I'm definitely in favor of.
Would love to see the old school big numbers on the shoulders. I remember people getting upset when they switched to the jerseys they have now. "How could they get rid of they gray stripes!?? We look like Wisconsin now!"
IMHO the uni in the pic looks closer to the 2002 champ jerseys than the old school Eddie George/Terry Glenn numbers. Those numbers were *extends hands outward* huge!

Let me first say that this is my opinion and I have no inside knowledge of any kind, but maybe this jersey is a pro combat uni that pays tribute to the 2002 national champs in honor of the 10th anniversary.
You can't see the helmet very clearly and I think it might be similar to the "chrome" helmet that was shown on the Ozone. I think maybe its not "chrome" but rather crystal, as in the crystal football given to the National Champions.
I don't know, maybe I'm crazy, but if it turns out to be true then you heard it here first.
