Not sure if this has been discussed on here previously, but have been thinking about it, and then someone on the ESPN Blog asked the question.
Can OSU be the AP National Champion, ala the 2003 USC team? The answer is "Yes, they can". But what will it take?
Obvious answers are:
- Finish 12-0
- Dominate every team they face (Especially Wisconsin, Michigan State, Nebraska, TTUN)
- TTUN has to beat Alabama
- Penn State have a good year
- Purdue, TTUN, and Michigan State beat Notre Dame (And then Noter Dame beat USC)
- Michigan State be the only loss that Boise State suffers
- OSU beat an 11-0 TTUN team by 20+ points on Nov. 24th.
What else will need to happen?

Pigs flying?
The SEC cannot have an undefeated finisher. Actually, no major conference can produce an undefeated team (post-bowls, of course).
start the season ranked in the top ten would be a big help also. when is the first ap poll by the way?
First AP Poll comes out tomorrow actually, I expect Ohio State to be ranked between #13- #15
Like you pretty much stated, it would take:
- Absolute dominance by the B1G conference as a whole
- An undefeated scUM team rolling into Columbus
- No other undefeated team in college football heading INTO the BCS championship
- All out dominant performances week in and week out by the buckeyes
With other major teams getting 2 extra games, no way Ohio State wins the AP title. Short of them beating everyone by 40 or something like that I just don't see it. Even then, it may be tough for them to pull it off.
@BTALBERT25 I agree with you. It's like a one in a million chance... (or is it a 1 in 120 chance?)
Just thought it would be fun to speculate on the possibility.
1-124 i believe it is now

Actually all they have to do is be dominant to a 12-0 record and no one else goes undefeated. I think all those points you made is a bit much. If OSU goes out and beats everyone by 20 + and the AP believes they are the best, they will get it. Penn State doesn't have to be good for that to happen!
OSU has been AP champs 2 times in the past 50 years. Coming off this past 6-7 season, with OL issues and the unknown variables that come with each unfolding season, I'd put OSU at pretty slim chances at being AP Champs....maybe 1,000 to 1.
Come on man! Have Hope!

Oh, I do hope I'm wrong. 12-0 would make for a fun fall. Since Dec 12 is the Mayan Doomsday, not going to a Bowl Game will not actually hurt us.
December 21st was the Mayan Doomsday, but they actually found more of the calender so its sometime in like 2050 now
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I'm not convinced that 12-0 OSU would win the AP title over a 13-1 SEC champion that wins the MNC game. The SEC needs to be taken down in the MNC game for this to happen, or not make it at all.
Class of 2010.
Score 70+ every game with multiple shutouts and no team score over 10 points, other than that its probably impossible but I got my fingers crossed!

Wishful thinking, shooting for the stars, optimism isn't a bad thing..but come on peaps! We are known for being a delusional fan base around the country and its for reasons like this.
Sorry to be a buzz kill..but drop the expectations a little more.
