Whatever the stats are, good or bad, the kid sure looks legit on that highlight tape. I hope that we offer him. His suddenness (is that spelled right?) is pretty damn good.
The great thing about his game is that with all that speed and quickness is that he is a N-A runner. He normally hits the gap at full speed and normally breaks ankles with one move.
I just wish I could see him in a camp setting, or a situation where he could play against competition and speed more on par with his own. It's difficult to see how a guy projects at the next level when the competition isn't comparable. I won't be sold on him until I see that
I agree with that to some extent, and I would bet money that his stats might be vastly more pedestrian against better competition, but you can still see the physical gifts in his highlight reel, and they are good.
Urban and the staff did see him in the camp setting against better competition and he didn't get his offer. That's why it is pretty clear to me that Timmons is a Plan B guy behind guys like Quick, Gibson, Stevens, and North. Timmons gets his offer if we strike out on all 4.
Yeah, but until we, the uninformed population, get our hands on that film, we will continue to polarize to either: A. Timmons is god, look how fast he is or B. He doesn't play anyone good, clearly only average.
Obviously though, the evidence that coaches have seen film and live camp action should tell us more. He won the smokehouse, so he's clearly fast enough for a staff that loves speed. The fact that he still doesn't have an offer should be logic enough to think maybe he isn't as electric against better competition.
I agree that he may have not been noticed on time and other slots have the scholarships already. With that said i am certain Urban wants him. I have read where Burroughs has said he is the best he went up against in a camp. Elliott was very impressed talking about him also. And he didnt just win the SmokeHouse he blew them away. He does have an A B and C move. He will be the next Reggie Bush. I hope its with tOSU.
But I'm not sure that Urban wants him that bad. And how do you mean, next Bush? Just last week you were arguing that he's a better WR than Quick. Now he's the next Heisman winning RB? I'm sensing some Timmons colored glasses.
Bush was used like a slot/rb (ath). Did it all. Wisconsin wants Timmons as a RB. I have come to realization he will not be a Buckeye. This site in large part does not recognize him as being worthy.
What's stopping Urban from offering him now? If he wanted to offer him, he would've done it after seeing him at camp. I'm not saying he isn't buckeye material, I'd love to see him in S & G. But Urban has seen plenty of film and seen him and person. Either he feels Jacobs was the only player that was needed to fill that role or he doesn't see Timmons in the same light you do.
And yes, Quick is widely regarded as a better prospect than Timmons
Of note Quick was going up against Jalen Ramsey's team and chances are they went up against each other. If they did go against each other I'd say Quick had a pretty good night for going up against a high 4* USC committ CB.
If youre saying Quick's numbers agains Brentwood can be compared one for one against Timmons numbers against whatever low level program Timmons played, you're really confused
In Jim Tressel's 10 recruiting classes, he had at most 5 to 6 guys committed to a class before September rolled around. Folks, there are still 5 months till NLOI Day with less than 5 LOI's left to fill. A lot can happen. Maybe this staff wants to watch these kids play their SENIOR season before they take any commitment, or offer up any offers. Urban closed on and offered a slew of kids, and didn't start his attemps until December last year. Look what he did in 2 months. He has 5 months now. I'm pretty sure he'll find and offer who he wants.
till then, guess will have to read these posts about who is better. it will be like sitting around a fishing hole watching two guys throw bait in the water, getting excited over a bobbing bobber.
wasnt saying anything, just putting out quicks stats, thats all. also i am not saying timmons or quick is better than the other. i leave that to the real experts and not just a general fan base. for example those who make the big money and evaluate players for their program. in urban i trust.
Ok so if we trust Urban, why is this a discussion? He doesn't have an offer, after camping, visiting, and having his film seen by the staff. Since the staff seems to have backed off all slot options, it seems that he won't get one. The staff knows more than we do.
And JohnBlair, Just like fishing, no one is making you watch it.
^^ no sh!t, sherlock holmes. Ha. ^^^^ I'll worry about Quick or Timmons once/if either becomes a Buckeye. Till then, they are just one of a couple 100,000 kids playing high school football.
No offer...enough said... I hope we don't get weekly updates on Timmons big plays against teams that are beating his team by 20 and putting up 60 points. Not sure this is as good of competition as Trinity and their schedule. I'm not from KY but think I'm pretty accurate based on film of both Quick and Timmons. Not to mention Trinity's schedule has got some excellent Cincinnati teams on it as well...I"m not sure it's even close in comparison really. Next Reggie Bush btw To Waycrack...isn't that a bit of a premature statement at this point in his career???
Check out Trinity's schedule below...pretty grueling...just saying. Du Pont Manual is their only "easy game" if that's what you want to call it. Click every team they play and look at state rank. You can do the same with Franklin...not even close in comparison.

You will really see how good Quick is if you get a chance to watch Archbishop Moeller, Elder, or the St. Xavier (Cincinnati, OH). 3 big GCL schools that have been a power house of Ohio football for years.
I was at fnl . I saw gibson .Plenty of speed , But droped a lot of passes. Saw allen he was ok . All i know is these kids got the shit worked out of them it was a really fast paced camp.At the end when you thought the event was done . Coach mick lined each group up and they did the fastest to the finish. So all recivers had there shot to see who was king. Ryan T won his group. Then when they took all winners from each group .To see who was the the fastest of the event . Ryan T just smoked em all and wasnt even close. I recall all the people in the stands saying who the hell was that. So if urb wants to get a guy who blows the top off the d . I would have went over and said son we need you to be a buckeye. Cause you just worked for 4 hrs then just kicked all there asses. And i saw it in person. GO BUCKS
I understand there are some people big in the Timmons camp... He may be a great receiver, and a great person, he may even help a grandma take her groceries to her car at his local Walmart... But he is currently not a Buckeye. Now, neither is James Quick, or Shelton Gibson, or Marquez North, or Devon Allen, or Robert Foster, or Tony Stevens. But at least those six guys have offers (commitable or not) to play for The Ohio State University, directly endorsed by Mr. Urban Frank Meyer. Recruiting hype is a slippery slope, as we all saw w/ the Anzalone situation. Let's root for and motivate and cheer for the guys that will be on the field at Ohio Stadium (because, in the days of social media, undoubtedly some of them are reading these posts) and let the rest to the coaching staff.
but urban didnt go over to ryan? if not, then urban may be looking at others ahead of ryan, and why not, loi day is a long ways off, plenty of time for all the candidates to finish wowing urban huh? i have seen ryan in person, i am impressed with him, he is definitely very talented. but there are many others i know. GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
@Stu, you're right, signing day is a ways off, but with the class size limits that we have, it's unlikely another slot rb/wr is even being considered. Whitfield was backed off on when Jacobs committed, so you have to think unless there's a decommitment, Timmons' window is closed.
Very nice info Holywood. I saw the video that was posted and it appeared on video he won in 40 yds by 5-7 yds against people that supposedly runs a 4.4. I have been on here promoting Ryan mainly for my respect for Urban Meyers. Ohio State is my team but quite frankly if Tressel was here I would have been somewhat less enthusiastic mainly because Tressells offense does not match up well with Timmons skill sets. I do believe R Timmons could be a first round NFL pick some day with the right opportunity. There is only a few coaches of Urban Meyers system and capabilities and Buckeye fans only see this type of system maybe once a year so you long for the cookie cutter receiver types not knowing what the Percy Harvin and Lattimore (S Carolina) RB types can bring.
By the way for all the bright analysts in here I spoke with a friend who went to see Quick play and he said he was matched up all night in single coverage and caught 8 passes and dominated the USC signee for 100 yds. Timmons was the focus of an entire defense and as a result Timmons only gained 200 yds on 7 touches 2 TDs, but his team mates picked it up and scored 62 pts.
Wouldnt you like to know what Gibson Allen Quick do on a regular basis also?
1. If you respected Urban Meyer, you would know his name doesn't have an "s" on the end.
2. Percy Harvin and Marcus Lattimore (who is more of a power back + speed a la Carlos Hyde, not like Harvin) were 5 stars coming out of HS for a reason. Everyone knew what they could do, and they performed as such.
3. Again, Quick was single covered by a top 20 DB while Timmons was defended by a mediocre at best Kentucky defense. I refuse to believe any defense that gives up 62 points to anyone can be regarded as quality.
Excuuuuuusee me genius. Yes I live in SEC country and I do respect what coach Urban Meyer's teams have done and accomplished. Lattimore a power back? He has power but hardly any more of a power back than Silus Redd.
He's more a power back than a slot hybrid guy like Harvin, and like Timmons is being recruited as by OSU and Arkansas, the two current most likely candidates for his services.
That being said, that isn't even the point: The two guys you named were extremely dangerous, but also adequately rated as such and noticed by the same experts who have seen Timmons' tape and not ranked him highly or offered him.
I do, but why use the example of two 5 stars? You're saying people don't know what they're capable of or something, but they're not on an even playing field with RT. Let me reiterate man, I want Timmons to succeed as much as you do. I'm just not sold on his talent yet, and sadly, the odds of him being a buckeye are pretty slim, seeing as his position is regarded to be full at this time.
By the way. Timmons is strong and physical as well. In fact he could also play D1 basketball if he chose too. His BB game is similar to Craft. Tenacious on defense not such a great outside shot but can beat anyone to the rim and has a 40 vertical.
I don't know if basketball talent really demonstrates football physicality. Craft was a QB, you're not gonna throw the kid in as RB and expect him to take that wear and tear.
Thanks man, know that I do respect your arguments. I agree with some, and disagree with others, but when it comes to wanting to see Timmons succeed, we're on the same side.
I personally not only want Timmons to succeed, but to succeed as a Buckeye. I agree that the stats are meaningless, but look at the moves at full speed. The kid has some pretty rare physical gifts.
Hey Waycrack...found something you may like...read this below: It's from an moderator at BP and it's alittle old. Sounds like good things for Ryan if all else fails...which it may (Quick, Foster, Stevens, and Allen/North).

Quick was covered by Jalen most of the game, but was also the focus the focus of the defense. Plus, if you want to compare Quick and Timmons stats, look at Quicks stats last year and the year before in games against any Kentucky team. When Quick faces mediocre to poor teams (which are still better than every team Franklin Co. plays) his stats are as good or better than Timmons.
For one I was pointing out that Quick had a great game matched up against a top talent in the nation. It is hard to say who would do what. On one hand some could guess that if Timmons could do what he does at FC just think of what he could do with a top tier offensive line and so many other weapons around him meaning he most likely does not get double and triple teamed. Just think what his numbers would be if he played more than 2 Qtrs. just guess what they could be if the defense was as good as Trinitys (FCHS would probably average 70 pts/game). With all of that said you are flat out wrong about Quick having better stats. Timmons scored 38TD's on 100 touches and 2500+ yds. Last years numbers alone is more than Quick had the last 2 years. I wish Quick all the luck and hope he does well. As for Trinity i am sure they are your typical Catholic school that has talent from 12 counties 3 states and most of their players are 19 years old due to being held back in the system.
What I like about Timmons is that he seems to want to be a Buckeye. Maybe someone who knows more could weigh in on this but he has decent offers & has not committed. Seems like its because he is waiting for the OSU offer. If his seasons plays out well I think he gets the offer & would commit right away. I like talented players but I love talented players who really want to play at OSU....the more I see & learn about him the more I think he'd be an asset to OSU...
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
You missed my point. Compare the stats for Quick against other KY teams (all of which are better than any team Franklin Co. plays). Also, Quick doesn't get as many touches because Trinity has more than one offensive weapon.
Furthermore, Trinity and "most other Catholic schools" aren't like that. I grew up in the catholic school system in Louisville and players are recruited just as hard by public schools as they are catholic ones. Public schools got waivers for players to switch districts all the time, so don't buy all the bs that they claim. Also, not a single player I ever played with was held back in the system in order to be a 19 year old senior, hell we only had a few 18 year olds on the team. We had a few players come just across the river from Jeffersonville In, but that is it. Lastly, your "12 counties" reference is way off base. 90-95% of the players grew up playing together in the catholic grade school system in Louisville. To make such claims when you have no idea what you are talking about hurts your arguments for Timmons and lessens your credibility.
Do you want me to name them? I have the list and we both know the truth. Im not turning this to a recruiting spill. You did that. I dont even care about that. Quick and Timmons had near the same touches and all you have to do is google the Stats for both and you will find your comment is not nearly correct. Quick averaged about 15 yds per touch(80/1330)Timmons averaged 27. Quick is a great player but look even at the highlight film posted today in Quick Bits. Quick does not hit full speed like Timmons plus Timmons has that better move. Go to hudl there is alot to see there.
Look Waycracken, i understand that you think Timmons is a diamond in the rough and want him to succeed and i agree for the mot part and rescpect your opion. That being said saying hes better than James Quick is absolutey rediculous. Any nonbiased fan could watch those two tapes and see that James Quick is on a whole different level than Timmons. Quick looks like he's playing against middle schoolers out there while playing the toughest high school schedule in America. His speed without pads is as good as Timmons and with pads on it's not even close. You can't really compare stats because Trinity's streangth of schedule is alot better than Franklin County. There is a reason he has not been offered by Ohio State and there is a reason he has a lower ranking on every single recruiting service than Quick. Honestley i do want him to succeed and he sounds like a solid kid and player but i'm getting sick of seeing posts about him on here when he is clearly not coming to OSU (especially since we have two players who play the exact same posisition as him already in the 2013 class) and there are better players still on our radar.
Timmons might be great and maybe the next Reggie Bush, but I can't see the coaching staff signing 3 slot guys in one class. They already have Jacobs and Marshal in this class. This could be a situation of the staff not having room and meeting other needs. If they swing and miss on Quick and Gibson they might come in late and try to scoop up Timmons, but I don't see it happening.
It's true Quick is playing better competition, but he's also playing with FAR better players on his team than Timmons is. He has a very good QB, who is being protected by a very good O-line, then there's a terrific RB who is taking carries and keeping the defense honest. It's impossible to say how either guy would play if they were in the other's shoes, but my guess is we'd be having a similar argument only we'd be saying Quick isn't getting enough respect.
There are guys who have been great college and even made the NFL who didn't play great competition that came from NKY. Derek Smith, Jared Lorenzon, Shaun Alexander, and Brent Grover are all examples. Barker, the QB that hasn't played a snap of his JR year yet, the guy people are saying we need to offer now because he's going to be a terrific leader and help recruit the rest of the 2014 class. He plays weak assed competition as well.
You can find physical reasons you like one guy over the other but can we quit talking about the competition they play, because you can just as easily make an argument about the talent surrounding each player and how that contributes to their success as well.
Ramsey is a safety in High school. Marc Givler from Rivals was at the game and Ramsey only matched up against Quick a few times. That said, Quick is better than Timmons.
If a kid doesnt come from a high profile program and doesnt hit the camp scene the spring and summer of his sophmore year his chances of getting recognized beyond the home area schools are nearly nil. All Ryan did his sophmore spring is run track (came within .15 seconds breaking Tyson Gays record) and work out locally. His junior season was a monster one and word began to get around locally and coaches who saw both play voted 42 votes apiece for Timmons and Quick as the best in Ky. Timmons was not rated or even on the scene yet with recruiting services up until this time but after a few junior camps and he was outperforming EVeryone he came up against he began to get recognized and rated.
Its easy to see how so many recruits can be overlooked and wind up at mid majors and missed by colleges. Just because Ryan didnt get in with the right click his sophmore year does not make him sub par to any OSU recruit. Its just the circumstance. I looked at others film and I am sorry they do not support the arguments that Quick is better. Louisville area coach just this past week commented the private schools are the best in Ky but Timmons is the best player.
Here's the deal... Timmons went to FNL, performed in front of the staff, and still didn't get an offer... There can only be 2 reasons for this:
1.) The staff doesn't think he can get it done at OSU
2.) They already have two slot players in Jacobs and Marshal so they don't need Timmons
I wondered why we turned down Story and questioned the move, but at the end of the day Meyer, Herman, and Smith know what they have and need on offense. They will do what is best for the program. Obviously right now building the best defense and o-line in the country are the top 2 priorities. The playmakers will come for sure in 2014 class.
if quick and gibson commit elsewhere, does that give timmons a shot at being a buckeye? the kid is fast and he hangs onto the ball, quick had a fumble last week, pretty sure timmons can run stride for stride with quick, so if urban had to settle for timmons, that wouldnt be a bad thing would it?
frankfort high is on the radio and they are at home, why? timmons team is on the road, they arent on the radio, according to the local paper, why?
FC up 27-20 Halftiime 262 lb RB (4.6 40) went for a bruising 60 yd TD. Timmons having a so so game with only 4 touches and 120 yds 1 TD.
Timmons another 55 yd reception for a TD
sweet, the SEC is gonna love that kid
Alabama wants him to visit.
is game over?
Tes 62 - 41 FC. Timmonsmostly used as dwcoy in this one. Wherever he went the whole defense followed. He had 7 touches for 200 yds and 2 tds.
Whatever the stats are, good or bad, the kid sure looks legit on that highlight tape. I hope that we offer him. His suddenness (is that spelled right?) is pretty damn good.

Wait and see. If Urban had a do over. I believe Timmons would have his offer.

Many many 3 and 4 stars acheive that level Buck I 8. And I know you know that.
As much I hate to. I agree with yoUr last post.

Enough said

it was proven at fnl timmons is the fastest
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
but personally i trust the guy with 2 national championships
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
I don't think of Jacobs as a slot guy, not to say that his moves aren't good, but I think that he ends up on the outside.
if quick and gibson commit elsewhere, does that give timmons a shot at being a buckeye? the kid is fast and he hangs onto the ball, quick had a fumble last week, pretty sure timmons can run stride for stride with quick, so if urban had to settle for timmons, that wouldnt be a bad thing would it?
