Hey guys,
With the opener being Saturday and visits will be starting back up we're leaving this thread open to questions about recruiting. Me, Alex, or Miles will answer the questions posed. Let it begin!

What are your thoughts on how the remainder of the '13 class will shake out? Does the staff shift focus towards '14 once the season begins, or shortly thereafter?
Speaking of '14, it appears as though R. McMillan could be one of those early commits who goes out and recruits for tOSU via his Twitter machine and the camp circuit. Thoughts?
GO BUCKS!
With an 85 man scholly limit, what is the optimal mix between the positions? And additionally, how heavy/light are we currently in those positions? I feel like certain positions ie. d-line, we have like 15 quality guys, while O-line you'd be lucky to find half that.
Thanks
I actually think the staff has started shifting focus to 2014 a bit now. Obviously they have their reamainign targets, but I think their goal is to have the class basically wrapped up after every summer so they can focus on the last 4-5 targets and move on. I like Gibson, Munger, Tyquan Lewis, and Mike Mitchell in this class...I think Vonn Bell and Chris Worley have great shots to be in too...keep an eye on Dorian Johnson and then James Quick/Ryan Timmons/Devon Allen
I think if he commits early it will be silent. He wants to make his announcement at the UA game so we may not know for over a year. We'll see if the plan sticks that way, but right now OSU is in a great spot
I like this break out:
If you take the high numbers there it should get you where you need to be
I've been excited about Mike Mitchell ever since his "coming out" party and hearing he was virtually an OSU "lock." Anything new on him? Last I heard OSU was right up there, but he still wanted to take some visits, including in Columbus.
I know this is one of those topics peopel were chastised for bringing up over and over again, but I'm only curious if anything has changed and if the staff still thinks he's an OSU lean.
AWESOME thread idea, by the way. Thanks!
What are your thoughts on Drew Barker? I read online that if he was offered he could commit quick... I know the 11W staff has varying opinions on which QB to go after, but all the stuff I have read I am sold on barker. He would be a big recruiter for the staff and I like his leadership from what I have read... Any truth to the rumors he could commit quick if offered? Another rumors on which way the OSU staff is leaning on QBs?
Havnt heard anything on Jeb Blazevich lately. Any updates? Would love to see him in scarlet and grey as a perfect stoneburner replacement
Alex probably has the goods on Mitchell as I'm not really in tune to that situation.
Barker has told me before, and its been in some of the "Catching Up With"s I've done with him that he would like to commit early and be a leader for his class.
I think OSU is in good shape, so I could definitely see it as a possibility.
Still hearing he is a Buckeye once they work out when he can come to visit :)
I think LSU and OSU are in very good shape here...some other programs looking good as well, but hear these two have as good a shot as any
What recruits are spots being held for in the 2013 class? I know Bell is one... Are there any others having spots saved or just Bell?
I would imagine a spot is saved for Mitchell as well.
Think they also really want Tyquan Lewis, Shelton Gibson, and Donovan Munger.
Any names that are being talked about to fill out the 2013 class that maybe people aren't as familiar with (i.e. surprises)?
Any thoughts on the first guy to verbal for 2014?
1) Which side of the ball does the staff see Munger playing?
2) How solid are the '13 recruits? Any chance of a de-commitment?
3) What's the feeling on Worley? Is there high interest on both/either side?
Do you see any more 2013 offers going out, or does the staff just let the chips fall where they may at this point? If we miss on all LB and WR options, you've got to think more offers will go out.
Also, what will the numbers on next years class be? Am I incorrect in thinking it will be back to the size of a typical recruiting class, and that this was the only year recruiting numbers would be affected?
Don't know of any surprises unless a guy flips, and can't really speculate on that.
My guess on first verbal for 2014 has been Booker.
2014 OT demetrious knox, is he trying to confuse us or does he really want to go to texas? the guy seems like a buckeye through and through but his buddy gets an offer from texas and it feels like we're at a huge disadvantage to get the big fella now.
1. Judging by FNL: Munger on defense.
2. No whispers of a decommitment.
3. See Worley in class. Interest is mutual
More offers could go out based on senior film.
Numbers should be typical, but tough to give exact number without knowing future attrition.
Far from over, I think. OSU-Texas battle but Texas with the edge because he wants to play with teammate Daniel Gresham.
Of the DB recruits, both committed and not, who do you see as a CB?
1. I would say defense with the possibility to always move to OG down the road
2. I think they are all solid
3. Like Derek, I see Worley in...
I don't see offers going out until some games are played and coaches get film or get out to see some players like Ryan Timmons, etc. There may be some committed players like Sebastian LaRue who come out of nowhere to claim offers and take officials, but we will have to wait.
As for next year it's way too early to tell. It depends who leaves after this year, etc. The 2012 roster was affected by the 82 number, as will the 2013 roster and 2014 roster, so the class of 2014 will still be impacted. That being said, I will guess somewhere around 22 in the class.
I think the thing with Knox is that he really really likes Ohio State, but part of him does want to play with his close friend Daniel Gresham. I think when he almost verballed there the people close to him really made him rethink what he wants and he may realize what's best for Gresham isn't neccessarily what is best for him. I still think he has OSU and Bama on top with Texas in third, but we shall see.
Woodard- CB
Lee- S (or even LB)
Burrows- start at CB and move to S in year two or three a la Kurt Coleman
Worley- S (or even LB)
Bell- S
Thompson- S
Anyone else we're missing
That looks like a lot of Safeties. I was hoping that there was another CB in there somewhere with recent news that Burrows has underwhelmed on the camp scene.
Burrows could still play CB but we'll see.
Worley probably a LB
Yeah Northbrook not sure who else you were thinking really other than Burrows....he looked good at CB the other day so maybe he sticks, I don't know...I just see him as a STUD safety down the line....next year you potentially have Roby, Grant, Reeves, Murray, Woodard, and Griffin at CB which isn't too shabby...I think Burrows plays there as a frosh like Coleman did to make 7 guys who can see the field at 2 CB slots which is fine
I was wondering if Bell or Thompson might have CB ability. All the bad talk about Burrows could be BS, we'll see. Will Roby leave early? This is his third year in the program.
Neither Bell or Thompson at CB.
Pure speculation but if he lives up to All-American expectations Roby could be gone after this season
Saw on a forum topic that Joey Bosa did not play due to injury. Any idea what the injury may be?
A bit off-topic, but what are you guys hearing on the TTUN's situation? Would hate to see them land Treadwell AND Green, but something tells me that they'll get neither. Treadwell reminds me of Jordan Diamond from last year's class--told all TTUN recruits that he was committing there and ultimately went to the SEC. Do you guys see Laquon going south as well if say 'Bama offers? Is Green leaning Auburn now?
Bosa injury is minor...if he misses more action, likely only to be one game
Still think UM gets Treadwell
Green will be a tougher get for them.
Any possible committs this weekend during the game? I know you guys have said qb offers won't go out to later but do you see any decent chance Drew Barker gets an offer this weekend during the visit?
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Could you guys please list some rising prospects int he 2014 who are in Ohio. I would like Urbz to focus a little bit more instate, Hoke is making too many crossroads into Ohio.
Help is on the way.
Probably a dumb question, but Robert Foster is not going to be a Buckeye, right?
Help is on the way.
I don't think so (unless Tyquan Lewis pulls the trigger, but he's not a visitor) and I don't think so (to both of those questions)
Not looking that way right now...OSU reserves the right to change their direction on that one haha...my guess is Pitt right now...
First off, I think everyone needs to relax on the Ohio thing...he's done a very nice job with Burrows, Marshall, Lisle, Sprinkle, Price, Lee, and Thompson for 2013 and could add Munger and Gibson to that list which would be a solid 9....the OL class in Ohio for 2013 is weak and they went Barrett over Zaire which I am fine with...
Secondly, for Ohio in 2014: QB DeShone Kizer, QB Joey Duckworth, RB Ashton Jackson, RB Mikel Horton, RB Devine Redding, RB LJ Scott, WR Thaddeus Snodgrass, TE Ethan Wolf, TE Jacob Betschel, OG Nathaniel Devers, OG Skylar Hartley, OL Nick Richardson, OL Jared McCray, OT Kyle Trout, OL Cole Pettit, OT Jimmy Byrne, OT Marcellus Jones, DT Logan Dziak, DE/LB Joe Henderson, DE Verondtae Wilkinson, LB Dante Booker, LB Davonte James, LB Tinashe Bere, LB Michael Ferns (committed to Michigan), DB Marshon Lattimore, DB Alonzo Saxton, DB Devon Rogers, DB Darius West, DB Marcus Whitfield, ATH Dareian Watkins...that is just a start
Would you agree that the 2014 class for Ohio seems to be more deep than the 2013 class just based off that list?
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
You said you liked Gibson, Munger, Lewis, and Mitchell in the class, as well as Worley. How big does the 13 class get? that would put us at 21 with guys like Von Bell, James Quick, and Dorian Johnson still on the board.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
BJ- yes
Triv- I think the class will be somewhere between 20-22...those 4 is 20, Worley is 21, and then Bell/WR/OT is 22
Just wondering if Marquez North is still in the mix. Also if you could predict two recievers we get who would they be?
Don't know on North, but doubt it. I might have more info on him here soon.
2 WR - Gibson might be only one. I don't see another at this time. Having Jacobs, Marshall, and Gibson probably enough anyways.
Heard North still is considering Ohio State and likes the program a lot, but that he is likely to stay in the south
Removed. Already addressed in another Topic
@ Buckz - I was going by a post in the forum and this link was provided stating he had an injury.
http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2012/8/27/3270045/ohio-state-class-of-2...
You may be absolutely correct and he is simply nursing an injury prior to the season.
Miles tweeted that Kyle Meadows is committing tomorrow. Any chance this is in favor of the Buckeyes?
From what I've seen in tweets and whatnot, Meadows favors Miami.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
And I don't think OSU offered, otherwise he'd probably already be a Buckeye.
When its all said and done is Vonn Bell a buckeye?
Ohio State hasn't offered Meadows so he will not be a Buckeye. His top schools are Kentucky, West Virginia, and Illinois or at least those are the schools he was going to officially visit.
My prediction would be West Virginia, though I'm unsure. Most thought he'd take officials.
@Shady
I'm not sure, I think it's 50/50 between the Buckeyes and Tennessee right now this could change though.
Didn't Vonn Bell say he would be cutting his list to 2 by Sept. 2?
Most people here in TN think Dooley has to win 8 games plus a bowl to keep his job. If he gets canned there's no way Bell goes to UT. Bell's decision could depend heavily on how UT's season goes.
Throwing this out there... Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions guys... Staying on the Bell topic, I too want to know: if it is a battle between Tennessee and OSU for Bell, what makes him pick UT over OSU besides location? From what Ive heard/read about Bell and OSU, he loves the staff and the program so if it is between UT and OSU, Id just be shocked if he didnt pick Ohio State.
I grew up in southeast TN and from what I've heard he actually lives in Chattanooga and drives to school in GA each day. Chattanooga to Columbus is only about 5.5 hours if I remember correctly. It's not that far from home. It's a straight shot up I-75. Seeing the field early will be easier at UT, but I don't think he will be able to compete for conference titles or national titles anytime soon at UT. I personally think he sports the scarlet and gray next year, but that's just my opinion. I believe we win 10 games this year and show people OSU is headed back to the national title talk and he wants to be apart of it. If we win 10 games this year everyone will be talking about us being a title contender next year. No way the recruits will be able to resist that opportunity.
We have recently picked up lots of defensive line recruits over the past two seasons, in the near future do you see the staff picking certain studs and only go for a few a year, or will these past two classes be an indication for the future? Do you see an emphasis on the OL in the next couple years?
He is from Tennessee so that home state/school thing is going for the Vols...that being said if they are mediocre on the field again, I think he is a Buckeye...watch out for Georgia too if they make the top 3....
I think now that they have reloaded they would cherry pick as you allude to above and go with 2-3 studs every year...the emphasis will definitely be on winning the game in the trenches, so DL will be fine, but OL definitely needs some players...the 2013 Ohio OL class was not a good one, so it kind of makes sense the approach this year...2014 is more stocked and I expect 4-5 stellar linemen in that class...
I know this is off topic but any word on if Southward is getting less home sick and making friends on the team. Also how is Jamal Marcus doing? Heard a little bit early from Meyer but seemed to have died off and I haven't seen him in the 2 deep
Do you see a guy like Joe Henderson after the staff see's some game film of him this year getting an offer or are there other 2014 DL targets they have higher on their board?
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Don't know about Southward and Marcus, honestly. That might be more of a question for Kyle.
Jamal Marcus is a good player though and should see the field this year.
On Vonn Bell, I think Tennessee and Georgia are the competition.
I wouldn't ignore the fact that if Tennessee dismisses Dooley, they could hire Bobby Petrino or Charlie Strong and stay in the Vonn Bell race. Much like what Urban did when he was hired.
Bell situation is complex, and you just have to sit back and watch it unfold. That's going to be one to watch.
It is a bit early to know with only one game of his junior season having been played. Let's let this play out some more.
He is one of the best in Ohio.
@Derek... Let's say Dooley does get hosed and they hire Charlie Strong at UT... Would that up our chances with Quick or do you think he would follow Strong to UT?
Quick wouldn't follow Strong to UT.
It's an interesting situation for sure and I don't have the answer to that, but I would have to think it wouldn't hurt.
Strong to Tennessee could be interesting, with it directly impacting James Quick and Vonn Bell possibly.
Any word on if Johnson is leaning Pitt or OSU? What are your predictons?
Not sure on this one. The official visits might tell the tale.
Agree with Derek...Johnson keeps it close to the vest...early $ on Pitt but OSU may steal one
Where do things stand with Da'Shawn Hand, now that Va Tech is rumored to be his leader?
I've read that the coaching staff wants to see the 2014 QBs of interest throw or even attend one of their games before they extend any offers. Will that happen any time soon? I'm very surprised none of these QBs have been offered yet, and I hope the offers don't come too late. Personally, I think Barker would be the best fit, and I believe he favors OSU, but I don't want him to get frustrated that it's taking so long to get an offer.
The one name that this site and others link to OSU for the 2013 class is Donovan Munger. To me this name would've made sense if we felt like we needed more depth on the O-Line. But I know that in FNL he worked out with the DL and that's where he's projected to play should he come to OSU. My question is, why spend another scholly on a good but not elite DL when we can a) use it for a playmaker on offense or b) bank it for the super stacked 2014 recruiting class?
Just seems like he'd have no shot at playing time anywhere in the near future unless something catastrophic happened. We need help elsewhere and/or we could use the extra scholly on a super deep 2014. Thanks.
Long way to go on Hand, handful of teams are where they would like to be right now which includes VT and OSU
OSU staff is smart and "get" recruiting. They won't wait til it's too late to get the one they want. They will wait to offer plan B's possibly, but that's it. It will be easy to see who they want most when offers get handed out to QB's. It could be mid-season when they start, or maybe towards the end.
The DL depth is what wins games. OSU is making that clear. Look at the SEC.
Also, if you guys have noticed, the DL is being thinned out some too, and maybe there's possibly more on the way? Hayes transferred, and Baldwin and Farris moved to OL. That was 3 within a short time of each other.
Munger and Price both can play both sides of ball so a move to OL is never out of the question. Nice to have some versatility.
I just have a quick question regarding Marcus Baugh. He seems extremely solid on tOSU, but I saw today that Missouri offered him. Does this mean anything regarding his commitment?
Nope, all Buckeye....schools come in and offer committed prospects all the time just to test the waters....C'Sonte York (UM commit) was just offered by Illinois--doubt that means much, etc..
Whats the latest on zeus?
It is still early for Orlando Brown Jr. I doubt he gets back to OSU anytime soon since he is from Georgia, and its his season as well.
OSU is in good position early on, and he really enjoyed his first visit. He will be a tough pull from the south, but OSU appeals to him.
Who do you think is at the top of the list for 2014 quarterbacks to be offered?
Not in order: Drew Barker, Caleb Henderson, DeShone Kizer, Kyle Allen, DeShaun Watson, William Crest as a start
BBall recruiting: Who's on the big board for OSU in the 2013 and/or 2014 class? I know Loving is already in the mix. Any chance at guys like James Young, Wayne Selden, Nunn or Freeman for 2013?
If there's five to six spots possible in the 2013 recruiting class, I'm guessing one is 'saved' so to speak for Vonn Bell (meaning if he waits till signing day, there's a schollie available for him). Do you think there are any other players good enough for a 'saved' spot? Like for Dorian Johnson, since OL is such a big need for depth right now? Or does the staff typically only 'save' a schollie for someone so high on their list that it's worth the risk to undersign or that they feel may wait up until signing day to decide/announce?
What is your QB list in order :)
Not sure on the basketball front.
The staff knows the 6 or 7 they want. So those are saved for them, so to speak. Would include Bell, Munger, Mitchell, etc., everyone that has been discussed. They'd also take Dorian Johnson.
My 2014 QBs in order from who I have seen: Barker, Henderson, Kizer, Duckworth. I have not seen Crest, Watson, or Allen in person.
I think Barker is the perfect fit because he is a dual QB and his high school runs the spread.
The offers/commits list for 2014 lists 2 QB's... I am assuming they are being offered as ATH's or at other positions???
I know this is supposed to be about recruiting but... Any chance Braxton wins the heisman? I suppose it would take an undefeated season for that to happen but how about atleast an invite to NYC??? I know alot of people think hes a year away but I think hes going to tear it up.
Just my opinion:
I don't think he's quite up to that level yet. He would need insane stats which I don't quite see this year..and it hurts that we we're on probation.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
