If it works out as well on game days as it did in that controlled environment, that could be cool...still wish they wouldn't get rid of the hive entrance though.
We're considering options for the hive. The problem is that a lot of the game is scripted, ads, songs, band, etc. Getting Hell's Bells in there could be a challenge.
I Agree THEHOSTILEDWARF. Keep the Hive! Really gets you pumped up to watch.
Quick Cals are great, but I would much rather have the hive if we have to settle on one....hopefully both can be worked in

The student section is usually about half-full 20 minutes before kickoff, I can't imagine it will be full this week, it'll be interesting to see how this works out at the game.

Let me give you a bit of a background of what this is... this is Buckeye Kickoff... this is an event filled mostly with freshman or diehards (ie eager participants)... they are given in depth description on what to do EVERY step of the way... it's usually used as a way to show blockies how to do card stunts (and usually takes place in the south stands) or as a experiment to try new ideas
This will NOT be how it will go on Saturday... this is an extremely controlled environment with everyone engaged and eager to do whatever is asked of them.

It looks forced. It doesnt seem that exiting either. The student section will be half full and i can see a lot of them being too cool to participate. What they do at Hawaii is cool but this sorta looks like a big game of simon says.
I've done this twice now at the town hall in the spring and last night...it is fun if you know what you are doing. That being said, most of the students won't know what they are doing, and of the 1/2 of the student body that knows how to do it properly, only about 1/2 of them will be in the stadium when this happens....
I was there last night. they said that the hive would be used, in one way or another (according to the MC). I wasn't too sure about quick cals going in but it seemed to work well. If the whole stadium would get involved it would be pretty awesome. However, I still like the hive a lot better.

I think someone said elsewhere if they can holler at the beginning and clap somewhat correctly, all will be fine. Otherwise, it might look rather doofusish.
If everyone gets in on it it could be really cool. The problem will be getting students there before kickoff. Personally, I think 7 Nation Army is annoying at this point. EVERYONE does it EVERYWHERE.
Agreed, seven nation is played out. Imo, the hive is sweet and gets people pumped so lets keep that for sure. The addition of the quick cals can't hurt. why not just give it a try?
If the quick cals really catch on and people embrace it, it could be really intimidating. I know it's a (huge) stretch but imagine if the whole shoe got into it.

I agree with BuckeyeEddie. If the whole stadium joins in the Quick Cals, it's going to create a lot of noise 20+ minutes before kickoff. Looks like it could be pretty cool.
First showing probably wont be that impressive but let it grow...IMO OSU's student section is very weak in comparison to other student sections of elite programs... Bama, LSU, Texas A&M, Penn State all have better student sections from my experiences at their stadiums, and I am sure the list could be expanded. The Stadium as a whole doing this would be awesome because I think the Shoe collectively is amazing, but relying on OSU students to do it might doom this.
Look at where other student sections are placed though. Most are along the long side of the field behind the benches. That is a big difference as to how into it the students get.

Sure portions of OSU's student section show up late (looking at you north endzone), but we're by far the loudest section in the stadium, especially the South Endzone. If the students were placed along the sidelines instead of tucked into the endzones, the atmoshpere would be much more electric. Instead you have a bunch of blue hairs along the sidelines who will complain if you're standing or making any sort of noise.
Penn St is so overrated... so what the have pom-poms and can pump them to the beat of a song... trust me when I say that the big games in the 'Shoe were just as loud as the games I have been to at Happy Valley
