Penn State picks up a transfer WR from Akron...and when I say this I really mean they pick up a transfer who was a preferred walk-on at Akron but wasn't invited to Akron's training camp. Kid comes from Williamsport, PA and wanted to play for PSU out of high school but failed to receive a scholarship offer from PSU, or a MAC school, and finally gets a chance because of departures. Also to note: he has to sit out this year because of transfer rules. He won't be on scholarship at Penn State, at least this year either.
To summarize: Kid wasn't good enough to be a walk-on at Akron but is good enough to make a roster spot at PSU. That whole 10-year recovery time people have been saying may be 15-20 years if this is the route they are going to take to put names on the roster. Hope he starts next season.

For the record, I don't think this kid is a rat, per se. He could be a fine young man. I'm simply using the closest analogy I could think of.

If he can't get a scholarship then why not go to the best school that clearly needs people willing to play for no scholarship. Makes perfect sense to me... he won't get a shot at a better program.
this is not about the kid, this is about PSU replacing important players lost from transfering with a player that wasnt good enough to be called back to Akron's training camp and how, if this type of addition by subtraction (IMO) continues, it will impact PSU going forward.

So who exactly were you expecting Penn State to fill their roster with? Assuming this kid doesn't take up a scholarship this can be nothing but positive news for Penn State. Bodies are important and if they have someone who wants to be part of the program and can contribute in any way he can, it is positive. Doesn't matter who wants him or who doesn't.
This isn't directed at you or anyone specific but can we drop the Penn State obsession? I know, I know, they were pretty relentless with us during our scandal but isn't that all the more reason to turn a deaf ear and just let them suffer by themselves?
