Offensive Depth Chart Released

Fragel appears to have beat Decker out for the starting spot, and Bri'onte ended up #2 ahead of Rod Smith.

A little worried bout Fragel, would like to see Decker out there gaining experience right from the start. Otherwise, little to no surprises

I still expect to see some of those backups playing on Saturday.  Especially Decker, Spence, Washington (or Schutt), and the WRs/TEs.

What do ya know..Dunn ahead of Roderick Smith. Now only if my Decker/Fragel prediction comes through.

I more excited about Noah Spence than any other freshman... The speed that he is going to give us off of the end is going to cause havoc for QB's over the next 4 years.  He reminds me of Javon Kearse from back in the day...

I agree about Spence and Javon.  I wonder how much of freak he would be today.  Almost seems like times have changed so much he would just be one of the elites vs. in his own category.

I thought it was interesting seeing all freshmen in the 2 deep for the LBs.  A little scary but the 1's are pretty good.

Also - No Nathan Williams.  I want to see him play!

Wow, Farris and Baldwin on the 2-deep at OLine.  Defenders last season.  Man the lack of experienced depth on the OLine is scary.

Dunn returning kicks.  Cool.

Bryce Haynes also living up to his scholarship as the now starting long snapper.  Makridis was pretty good last year, so hopefully that means Haynes is even better.

Also, love the versatility of this offense.  Can you imagine Stoney, Vannett/Heuerman, Boren, Philly, Hyde/Hall all out there on offense at the same time?  You can spread the field, or play power football.  How is a defense going to consistently stop such a varied offensive look?  We could be looking at a LOT of big plays on offense this year if they find the right mismatches.

Really hope Michael Thomas gets a bunch of playing time. Would like to see that preseason hype kick up a notch with the season starting. Hopefully someone emerges as a true threat at WR.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Smith transfer now. If he's being passed by freshman, his chances of real playing time are pretty much gone.

I imagine Rod Smith will see a lot of PT and opportunities this year, especially early on with Hall out...its up to him to make the most of them... also, was hoping Reeves would return kicks, ive heard about his athleticism and speed coming into OSU, guess it was just talk.

Maestro: good point, it is disconcerting that Baldwin and Farris are in the two-deep on the OL; on the other hand, they might have a lot of upside - two excellent athletes at OL.

Excited to see M. Thomas, Steve Miller, Curtis Grant, and Bryce Haynes.

Philly Brown will have the ball in his hands a lot.

D. Grant is backing up Roby instead of Howard, which is interesting.

I like your positive thinking RFR, but I was just surprised to see them there.  Not that many other legit options exist.  From limited exposure last season Tony Underwood looked absolutely clueless so hopefully he has vastly improved.

2011 OLine class yikes.  Bobek=gone, Carter=defense, Brown=buried on depth chart, Underwood=major project IMHO

Regarding Spence, the ridiculous expectation I have of him is Von Miller. He seems to have a similar frame and speed, and in the limited action I've seen of Spence, there was one sack where he just had that same bend you would see with Miller as he went blowing by yet another OT with 60 pounds on him.

I noticed that on the Defensive side of the ball, Sevon Pittman isnt on the depth chart @ DL & neither is Jamal Marcus @ LB or Armani Reeves @ CB.

Has bennett always been a DE i thought he played inside? There is a lot of freshmen but I don't think it is that bad of a thing, they will get a lot of experience this year and be ready to go for next year when they will have a bigger impact when seniors leave and maybe some juniors as well.

I am super excited for the freshmen DL players spence, shutt and washington already on the two deep, I really like Hale and cris carter this year to idk meyer will be able to play all these guys they going to play 10 guys?

Bennett played inside and outside last year..I guess they like him outside this year.

I agree with the Von Miller comparison for Spence.

Once Dunn goes off that's probably all she wrote for Rod Smith.

I don't quite see the benefit of having Dunn on kick returns..get Philly Brown out there.

Smith won't get PT being behind Hall, Hyde, and Dunn.

I heard Dunn is out there on KR because the staff loves his blocking ability on the return

Crimson's picture
Crimson on 27 Aug 2012 - 9:40pm #

That's a good reason for Dunn to be in the KR team, but it doesn't explain why he's the kick returner; the kick returner doesn't block for himself.

I still have some hope for Doran Grant; he may be behind Roby, but he's half a starter (bold) :)
