College football kickoff week: a week where we can count on our favorite team gratuitously beating the crap out of a mid-major team--unless, of course, you're TTUN and you're playing Applachian State. But I digress. The point of this thread is to invite other NYC Buckeyes to merge viewing parties this Saturday (or any other Saturday moving forward). This thread may seem a bit odd to those of you in Ohio--where everyone and their dog watches the Buckeyes every Saturday--but I live in NYC, which means I have 3-4 people I can count on every week to watch A college football game, let alone the Buckeyes. The lack of any college football schools in this area means that no one cares about the sport. It's NFL country here.
That being said, I'm going to watch the Buckeyes game with 2-3 of my NYC friends this Saturday. I live by Blondies in the UWS so that's an option. But we're not sure yet where we're going. Anyone else in NYC want to meet up? The more the merrier. Alex, I recall you living in NYC? If so, it would be awesome to buy you a beer (or 5) for all the enjoyment you and your colleagues have brought me here over the years.
I am in NYC but not around this weekend...I will probably venture out for the Cal game on 9/15 to the new Buckeye bar which is STOUT by MSG...have been to Manny's on the UES which is fun too.....
I usually go to Manny's on second ave as well. Upstairs is pretty rambunctious as it should be but i think they do take reservation so sometimes they are full. Downstairs is usually pretty open so I can just walk in. They have plenty of TV's upstairs and downstairs and they always have the sound on for the games.
This week im not sure if im going there or not im going down to Philly to watch my Alma Mater (Temple) play villanova on friday night and am stuck there until saturday. But Ill be watching the Bucks somewhere on saturday.
I've always been opposed to venturing too far away (Blondie's/Manny's) or into the chaos that was Times Square (Tonic), so I don't really mind Stout. But if you're into the laid back scene, a few of us will most likely also be venturing to Turkey's Nest in Brooklyn. Some of the bartenders there are Ohioans. It should make for a pretty comfortable atmosphere without having to deal with some of the egos and annoyances of Buckeye football Saturday's.
Although I must admit, I will judge a location by its set of TV's and from my understanding, Stout tops them all.
Blondies is my favorite place...Tonic is ok too, but it gets too crowded.
Have to check out STOUTS.
Tonic is done as a Buckeye bar fyi...Stout is the new spot...also know Artica down in Murray Hill plays the games in a back room for Buckeye fans.....

I live on the UWS as well. Blondies is great, though i havent been there in a while for an OSU game. So long as they put the game on, its probably a better call than Tonic. I guess is depends on what you are looking for in a game-watch location (see Alex's article on game day!). The Tonic scene is a little too chaotic for me. And I actually like to hear the game!
Edit: just saw Alex's post on Stout (and the NYC Alumni club gamewatch email saying its at Stout!) I wonder if its less chaotic?
I will actually be coming to Nyc from Chicago this weekend. I was planning on going to Stout to watch the game. I would love to meet up.

typically watch at my apartment to avoid novices and dipshts who aren't paying attention. the Stout upgrade is def interesting though, little brighter, more upscale. out of town this weekend and will def be pounding brews in honor, will circle back following wknd on game watch at Stout if reports come back as i expect them.

i miss Blondies on the UES. I used to live right next to it and it was a buckeye haven. Manny's just isn't the same (blondies makes their nachos legit).

Had to comment on this. I live in Dallas (don't let the screen name fool you) but was in NYC for my cousin's wedding on the 26th. Out of the thousands of bars in NYC, Stout was one of several that I went to and it definitely seems like a great place to watch Buckeye football. Lots of TVs and there are three levels and different back rooms for people to gather. I almost wish his wedding was a week later so I could be there but then again, weddings during the football season couldn't be more disrespectful to the guests. Go Bucks!

So I went to Stout last weekend. While it was well organized, I wasn't overly impressed. I had no idea they also have a basement there, which is where everyone was seated. I hardly knew anyone and some guy seated near me kept getting up and sitting down (semi-schizo). I came to find out a few days later that all my buddies ended up at Blondies regardless. I'll give Stout another try for MSU, but if I get bad vibes again then I'll probably watch at home or at Blondies.
