NW Ohio HS in for a treat

Well, I am from NW Ohio, graduate from Whitmer High School, and the last 2 years I have been proud to be a Panther. Reached the Final Four, losing to eventual state champions in St. Edward & St. Ignatius respectively. As a result, schools don't want to play Whitmer in NW Ohio because we have become so dominate here. As a result, Whitmer get's their name on the map and goes national. We were able to schedule 2 non conference games against top tier programs, both at home, and I'm really exicted to be a part of this.

Next Friday, Detroit Catholic Central comes into town. Most of you may know who plays for this team, mostly Michigan fans will. TE Michigan commit Wyatt Shallman (OSU offered long ago) is on this team. State runner ups in Michigan last year losing to Cass Tech (Damon Webb, Dennis Finley, Jourdan Lewis etc LOADED with talent) Central Michigan commit OG Derek Edwards is also on this Catholic team as well as some other decent talent. This will be exciting to watch, but the fun doesn't stop there.

After that game, Whitmer will go head to head with Div II Champs Bishop Luers out of Fort Wayne, IN and we all know who plays for Luers. Mr Jaylon Smith, Notre Dame commit, other notable future college kids Bowling Green commit WR Mike Rogers, DB Tyvel Jemison, & DB Andrew Spencer

I myself cannot wait for these two games, being an alum of this school, it's exciting to see them play top talent. Anyone who lives in NW Ohio should try to come to a Whitmer game the next two weeks. I know these games will most likely sell out fast.

Hey Gene, I'm also form the NW Ohio area and someone told me that Whitmer might not be great this year and that they got in trouble for something and lost their coach? Do you have any insight on what happened? I will still try to catch the game but was curious.

They never got in trouble as of today, Whitmer had 7 transfer students last season, all were found eligible to play, OHSAA didn't find anything in their investigation as far as the transfers go. Our old coach resigned because of a better oppurtunity in Saline MI at Saline HS. He is now the head coach and AD there, more money obviously, as to at Whitmer he was only the head coach.

Whitmer dominated rival Start 60-0 this past weekend, so that should have silenced a few critics and doubters about the team.

As for the new coach Jerry Bell, he has been on the team for over a 14 year span, mainly coaching the OL. We are still keeping the spread offense that our previous coach installed, and they looked like they haven't missed a beat, but the true test will be this Friday and next.

Is Andrew Spencer related to Anthony Spencer? Anthony went to Bishop Leurs also before playing at Purdue

I'm not familiar with Toledo area football, is Whitmer expected to be competitive in the state this year? What's their ceiling?

I'll be attending the Toledo Central Catholic game next week against Temperance-Bedford out of SE Michigan. Of course we know Jayme Thompson plays for Central and Bedford (which is my alma mater) is an up and coming program in the state of Michigan (playoffs last three seasons, quarterfinals D2 two seasons ago). I'm excited to watch this one.

Round on the ends and hi in the middle.

Bishop Luers almost got beat by Northrop, who is probably the worst team in the SAC Ft. Wayne league. They beat Northrop on broken coverage with 30 sec left in the game. I'm sure Whitmer will smash them. Luers lost to Snider in their opener, and a co-worker of mine went to that game and said Jaylon Smith didn't even look like the best player on the field. I'm sure he gets a lot of attention, but as high as he's rated.... he should be catching eyes, and not being outshined by teamates.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

Central is winning the TRAC this year, absolutely loaded. DeShone Kizer, Amir Edwards and Keith Towbridge running the offense and Thompson on D. They have loads of talent. Coach Dempsey has em in shape

@Buckeyefan52

You're welcome, hope to see ya at a game!

@Buck-I.8

I believe they will fly under the radar like Findlay did last year, nobody expected much then blammo, scoring 40 pts a game and in the playoffs. But Whitmer has played great football the last 2 years, I don't expect them to get back to State Semis, but I hope I am wrong. Expect Whitmer to be in the top 10 if they win both of these games in the state.

@Shock-G

Yeah, Bedford has improved a lot and that's awesome. Maybe they can bring Central a game this time, last year they were dominated.

@Gluefingers

Yeah I did see that, I don't know if I wanted to chalk that up to rust or what but I'm still not going to underestimate Luers. I've seen crazy things in HS Football.

@Bucks_Lax_14

I feel like Findlay is the fav to win the Trac, then Central then Whitmer but who knows for sure what will truly happen. Findlay has 9 starters on their offense back.

@GSW Yeah, I was at that game last year also - Bedford is younger this year but I think they have better talent and speed to run that veer offense. I do think Central is too big and fast for Bedford though.

My nephew played at CCHS and he's now at Central Michigan, so I like that these two are playing each other.

Whitmer defeated Detroit Catholic Central 19-7

Wyatt Shallman had an injury and was carted off the field, seemed to be major cramps, did not return. Huge win.

Whitmer defeated Bishop Luers 20-3 to go to 3-0 on the season, Whitmer's defense looks great. Jaylon Smith looked pretty good.
