Has anyone seen one of these? It makes me sick to think that any of our fanbase would think this is acceptable. It's one thing to chuckle a bit at PSU fans who jumped on our case when Tatgate went down, but this just isn't cool.

Find out who is selling it.

I'll just bet that it is some commercial t-shirt peddler with no connection to your university.

These things are popping up all over the place.  Fill in the punch-line school of your choice, and your own school colors of choice.  Bama, Huskers, etc.

I like where your heads at and I agree with your point, but there's some truth to that slogan.

Seriously though, I personally would never sport one of these shirts, but considering what went down and especially considering the magnitude of the situation, this kind of wordplay can be expected towards PSU and their fans/students/athletes for a long, long time....I mean I can't see this kind of thing just going away during MY lifetime even, regardless of sanctions.  The more time that passes the more folks will get comfortable poking fun at the situation, regardless of how unfunny the reality of it may be.

Take Michael Jackson as case in point, I'll be darned if I haven't cracked a couple funnies at his expense, but it doesnt mean I think child molestation is funny.  Quite the contrary.

Heck, people still make Tat-U jokes, probably will for a long time, we're going to have to get over it, just like PSU fans are going to have to get over the abuse they're destined to endure.

Yeah, but tattoo jokes are a completely different deal. I mean, everyone who's made a joke in my presence follows with "even though I think the whole thing is stupid." This is not something anyone should have to get over. It's classless and makes us look bad.

Nothing needs to be said IMO, especially after their fans were on such a high horse following tat-gate...they are getting what they deserve, and I for one am perfectly happy sitting in the corner and reveling quietly at their misfortune/sorrow/incessant whining

When it come to making fun of what happend to kids that can not stand up to a good size adult that is not cool. Now the person that is screaming to be made fun of is the coach that seen it happen and ran away like a school girl! IMO. I am a coach at my local rec dept. and when i see other coachs over step there bounds with kids i am the frist to tell them, but i do it with tack.

As per the Jezebel article comments it looks like LSU and Nebraska (crappy tee vendors, not the Universities) have a version too.

Aaannnnnd like clockwork I just received an email with a pretty big distro list here at work ( a large company of note in Cbus) with a variation of the image shown on the tee-shirt (imagine a buckeye hoody-wearing toddler with a speech bubble saying the same thing as this stupid shirt).

Sigh. Sometimes I hate the internet. And my colleagues. One of the guys on that work distro is a huge penn state fan & alumni. He's a great guy too. It's going to be hell for him this year but he still busts out his PSU polo on casual Fridays. Our 5%'ers are at it again, smh.  Their rabid 20% did pile on during tat-gate but it's no excuse.   Footbaw is here for sure, you can tell by all the hate!

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one - It's a shirt and isn't attack on the victims in any way. I in no way whatsoever condone what was done, it was absolutely terrible. With that said it's a shirt exploiting a scumbag.

It makes a mockery of the whole situation at PSU. If these were coaches diddling each other in the shower and got caught that would be one thing but its kids being raped. Not funny, sometimes you just have to pass on some jokes.

It's a T-shirt...I think it's funny.  It didn't state...I'd rather take a shower at PSU with JS and an under aged child did it??  No...I can see ppl having thoughts of negativity about it based on what happened.  However, look at all the Tattoo references and shirts and what not last year.  It's their turn...and as I feel bad for the victims...I SURE DON'T for those students who STILL say nothing should have happened to PSU concerning the NCAA...that's the bad joke IMO. Too many oversensitive ppl these days...it's over

That is severly disappointing.  If you find that joke to be funny (which I don't), tell it to a friend.  Don't put it on a t-shirt so that everyone has to read your "joke" that reaks of poor taste and insensitivity, and especially don't associate that in any way with my alma mater.

dubjayfootball90's picture
dubjayfootball90 on 29 Aug 2012 - 11:38am #

If there was no scandal, this shirt would never have been printed. Therfore, IMO, this shirt is directly making fun of the institution that is Penn State, and making fun of the shower incidents, and making a mockery of everything that occured over the past year-or-so. I don't like it. Its not insensitivity, its being respectful to those that have been affected in a negative light by this whole ordeal.

Yea, those tattoo shirts were disrespectful, I know, but its tattoos and money, not some perverted senior citizen trying to get his jollies off with young children....

"I would rather shower at PSU" is making fun of the situation that JS sexually abused young boys in the shower, saying I would rather have that happen to me, or have the possibility of that happening to me, than root for scUM.

In reality, thos affected by it, who actually WERE sexually abused, can take real offense to this.

But in reality, its a slipper slope. Someone may come at me and call me a hypocrite, saying that "well there are jokes about car crashes and people dieing, and that happens everyday, should we stop making fun of that?"

The sad thing is, no matter what is said, people are going to take things to new levels. There is a line, and I think it has been crossed. Don't call me insensitive, I love un-PC, but this sh*ts on those who were sexually abused and pokes fun at the entire situation, which I am not ok with.

"I would rather shower at PSU" is actually saying that you would rather take it in the *** or be otherwise molested than cheering for XYZ university. I'm not sure many who think this shirt is funny would have the balls to wear a shirt that said it the way I described it. The shirt is in exceptionally poor taste and I would seriously question the mental clarity of any adult who chose to wear it.

I'm not overly shocked at who is supporting this shirt or trying to say its funny, what I will say is this-I don't give a rats ass what shirts Penn State wore or what jokes they made about OSU's tattoo scandal. It was free tattoos and deserving of light hearted jabs. That's fine, I wasn't pissed and didn't demand a pound of flesh from PSU fans once their crimes came to light. To say "Well they did it so now its our turn!" or "They have this coming to them" is childish and pouty.

No they don't. Penn State students who made fun of OSU's scandal don't have this coming to them. This shirt is tasteless as it is cheap. There is no creativity here-its taking a shot at a hot button issue for the sake of selling shirts to the lowest common denominator of society who finds shit like this funny. BHop, there is nothing over sensitive about THIS issue. You are still apparently butt hurt over the shots people took at OSU-but you aren't being over sensitive? Child please.

This shirt and any who find a laugh in it are repulsive. Grow the fuck up people. I really don't care how 'oversensitive' this comes across as either. I guess I'm one of those weird people that find Child Rape disgusting, repulsive, and beyond the scope of pushing the envelope for the sake of a joke.

pcon258's picture
pcon258 on 29 Aug 2012 - 5:16pm #

the t-shirt is definitely tasteless. there are no two ways about it; i would hope that any legitimate vendor wouldnt allow this shirt to be sold. it is obviously way too soon for a shirt like this to be made.

HOWEVER, i don't think this is completely unnaccepable. as @ONE BAD BUCKEYE pointed out above, distasteful jokes have always had some sort of appeal. its too soon at the moment, but i think eventually, its inevitable. i mean, there are holocaust jokes. obviously those arent in good taste, but i dont think you are automatically a bad person for laughing at them, and i think the same is true with penn state jokes

Bolt's picture
Bolt on 29 Aug 2012 - 5:31pm #

That's just awesome how they use OUR name in the headlineof that USA Today article and even make reference that it's the exact same shirt that is seen at other major college campuses but choose to use our name exclusively in the headline. I sent a complaint to the editor about the headline. Obviously, as seen in their recent update, this got the University's attention as well. The fact that they won't change a headline they know is inaccurate is all you need to know to put quotes around "news" when you refer to them. @ Bolt, i wrote a nice little respone to Nicole on that page. I added it below:

First off, Nicole, do you know who created the t-shirt? No one at Ohio State created it, and it seems like no one who has any affiliation (other than a fan) created the shirt. For you to type the Headline "Ohio State mocks..." is completely wrong. Your headline gives false accusation that Ohio State, or someone affiliated with the program in a major way, ordered the shirts to be made. If this is how you work, then your career choice was probably not the best decision of your life as your journalistic skills are remedial, at best. You would think that someone working for USA Today would understand this, apparently not. Your title is misleading, poorly written and gives the completely wrong idea on what your article is actually about. You actually contradict your title severely throughout your article, because YOU HAVE FACTS that say that Ohio State did not actually sanction this creation or order it to be made. I take back my remedial comment, your journalistic skills and writing ability rival that of a child. Your work is beneath scum on the bottom of a bucket. Maybe you should quit USA Today and join TMZ or Deadspin, maybe Ebaums world or failblog, because maybe you can get a laugh or two out of your completely erronous headlines....

by the way, the writer changed the headline to her article about the 'Ohio State Shirt' mocking the PSU scandal. I sent her a tweet and told her to read my comment because her reporting was terrible and her work was laughable..... She changed the headline to "'Appalling' Shirt"...... I hope she looked and read at my comment, and the subsequent comments, because I tore into her real good. She is also a scUM graduate, so there is potential for biased reporting, and judging by the orginial title, it can definitely be viewed as such.
