NE Ohio High School Football Thread

 Hey all. I reside in Portage County and will not be away for school this fall for the first time in years. I'm looking to find nearby high school football games that I should attend. I have my alma mater (nothing special) I'm planning on seeing St. V-Hoban at UA's campus, and Copley-Akron Firestone. I know Cleveland Heights is good with Laster and Gibson, but they're a bit too far.

Anybody know of Akron-based schools which have some great games scheduled this year? I'm hoping to see buckeye players/targets, but I'm open to anything

The Massillon/Canton-McKinley game is always good; this year it's in Massillon so it might be a little far to drive if you're in Portage County.

Forget about Cleveland Heights, no one likes 'em.

Akron St. Vincent St. Mary has Dante Booker who is the number 1 2014 prospect in Ohio. And I think they play some pretty good competion. Maybe St. Vincent St. Mary against Akron Ursuline.

Mentor high school has Mitch Trubisky and is always a fun team to watch because they usually average 30+ points a game and throw the ball 30-40 times. Its about an hour out from Akron though

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Isn't the Buchtel/Hoban game usually pretty good?  I went to the University of Akron and it always seemed those games were huge.  Hudson has Ben Gedeon and that's not far for any game you'd like to see them.

I'd recommend attending a Massilon game, and a McKinley game. If you happen to make it to the Massilon v. McKinley game all the better. Both rich in tradition, both established fan bases that won't seem like a HS game at all.

If you're around Portage, you'll find some good football in the Federal League, don't sleep on some of the smaller schools too though, especially Marlington and Dymonte Thomas

yeah marlington should be alright this year and should be pretty good to watch

@MJB15 Ursuline is Youngstown.

Unless you have a reason it's necessary, I'd skip Firestone-Copley. I went to Firestone, and have seen more than enough horrible games to reccommend against going. But in case you must, Firestone has Kevin Gladney, WR committed to Nebraska, and Eregeros (sp?) Turner goes to Copley.

Louisville has a QB, Duckworth, that is getting some serious attention from some big time schools. They are a smaller school that has some good tradition and are in the same league as Marlington.  I bet that will be a good game.

I went to field high school. Mogadore obviously king of portage county but I'm hoping for more than D6.

Thanks for the tips. I read Firestone should be good, so I chose the Copley game because of friends in the Copley area. I used to watch McKinley basketball when raymar Morgan was there, so I'd love to catch a football game. Hudson is also very close. Thanks all. Keep them coming if you think of any

What year did u graduate from field? I went to Mogadore and graduated in '07. My recommendation would be Louisville vs marlington. Went to it last year and it was one of the better games I've been to in awhile. Only downside is this year it should be at marlington. Nothing against their field but Louisville has one of the better stadiums n atmospheres around

Catch a game at Fawcett Stadium (McKinley), Paul Brown Stadium (Massilon)..where ever that game is this year, go to it, Texas football has nothing on it.

Hahaha..heck maybe ask to see Massilon's indoor facility, bigger than the brownies I hear.
