Watching the MSU vs BSU game and Le'veon Bell is putting on a show! This Ohio Kid (Reynoldsburg) is putting his name in the hat for the early early Heisman race. He reminds me alot of Hershal Walker and I can't believe OSU didn't go after this kid. MSU has nothing else on offense but this kid is dominating the game with running and he can catch out of the backfeild.

I wouldn't put Bell on Herschel Walker's level, but he's pretty darn good.

Bell is very good but what starting Buckeye running back would you give up to get him?
O H I O is the Buckeye State
I'll trade any and all of our RB's for Le'veon Bell. He is putting on a one man show and at 244lbs he plays alot like Walker. I'd like to see him against other B1G teams but he looks very impressive so far.
Bell actually went to Groveport, but I agree...kid is a beast. He's obviously a power back but he's got some nice wiggle for a guy his size too.
best rb in the B1G?

I'd to see him drop about 10-15 pounds but he is a monster with soft hands and he can pick up the blitz. Im not going to annoint him as the best back just yet because I think that Mr Hyde may have something to say about that. However, he is legit and should have just put his name in the hat for the top individual award in college football. Here's to hoping he doesnt do that to us and also to him not having to touch the ball that many times every game this season or he may not make the draft in April.
Yes, but Boise is not competition enough to annoint Bell yet, IMO.
And just think, Rivals had Bell rated as a 2 star RB!! Shows you what the "stars" mean!!
The kid's vision is superb, his patience behind the line is pretty elite, with just enough explosion at his immense weight to get through the line when his spot opens up. I really like him, and I would love to see him at about 230-235, because I think he could become a little more sudden.
The kid is a stud, and although I personally like our running backs better, because they are Buckeyes, we don't have a kid that has what he has between the ears on our roster at the running back position.
Kid was definitely a beast tonight, and I can see why Edwin Baker bolted early for the NFL now. I would like to see Bell run against some B1G defenses before I anoint him the best back in the conference though, especially over Montee Ball. Although I was pretty impress with Boise State's ability to get into the backfield consistently considering they lost the majority of thier D-line last year.
Also showed that he can block. He is a complete back for sure but I wouldnt be so ready to trade our backs for him.
Think this the whole 'jumped into the Heisman race' thing is getting ridiculous though... dude had a really good game, but if you put everyone who showed up in a game on the list for heisman, it would be 500 players long.
^^^^ with only 1 week being played in college football, IMO, the Heisman list should be about 500 players long. Hate when the Media declares only 10 -15 players can win the Heisman in September. Dudes will weed themselves out week to week. Bell is definitely on the "list".
Our linebackers > Boise State Linebackers.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
He got fed the rock almost 50 times against a defense returning one starter without a player on the field with more than 3 stars. Let's put away this Herschel Walker/better than our RB's talk plz. Call me in November.
Boise was starting an entirely new D-Line. He also averaged less than 5 yards a carry. When you get that many carries, you'll probably break that many yards. Dot get me wrong, he's very good, but he's not even close to Heisman worthy. A lot of other backs would've averaged 8+ yards a carry against that D. He had good vision and power, good hands, and good blocking, but lacked high end speed and explosiveness. I'd take Hyde over him and maybe Dunn, too.
I like our stable of RB's (Hyde,Dunn,Smith,Hall) but I'd trade them all for Bell. I get that BSU may not have a B1G defense but Bell was "special" lastnight and he will be a 1500-1800 yard back this season, plus he can catch. If MSU can develop a pass game they are tough to beat.
Look I realize Boise's D is suspect at best but Bell has been doing this for a while. I'm all about optimism but honestley what has Hyde done to show hes better than Bell?
^^^you do realize that last night was only the fifth 100+ yard rushing game for Bell, right? He hasn't been doing anything amazing "for a while". He's been solid, but not exactly top 20 backs in the country or anything.
You know what though? How many times to great RB's put up 200+ yards playing a against a bad D or not? He put up that kind of yardage when the whole game Boise knew he was getting the ball damn near every play(a little exaggeration but not much). Michigan States offense outside of him is suspect and that's being very nice. That was a very impressive game, and a 200 yard game, NO MATTER WHO YOU PLAY, is amazing.
One more thing to add, as bad as the B1G was during his era at Ohio State, Beanie had 2, 200 yard rushing games while at Ohio State.
Bell is good! Nothing great though..lacks NFL speed. I doubt he makes the final 5 for the Heisman.

Bell is good, but this was a size mismatch that played to his strength. He simply just ran them over. I don't see that happening in most of the rest of the season for Bell if you watch him play. He is missing that little burst it takes to dominate better D's than what we saw last night. Yeah he had that cool jump showing his power, but he slide past tacklers, he didn't make them miss. And when he goes up against some more stout D's (in size) he won't be able to just push his way through so dominantly. He will still have a lot of good games, but Boise is NOT the team they were.
^well said!

I don't disagree with any of that, just think it it doesn't make much sense for people to just discount his fine game last night simply because Boise wasn't a great D. If playing bad D's resulted in 200 yard games, great RB's like Beanie or Eddie or Adrian Peterson would of had 200 yard games about 8 games per year.
I am not discounting his game, I think that he is a good RB. I just don't think he is great, which is what he is being made out to be. He simply plowed over the defenders, he didn't make them miss. He was tackeld in the open field many times where a great RB would have taken it to the house. He's good because he can get through the first layer of defenders and drag a few along if they are undersized, but he's no heisman candidate IMO. I STILL wish he was on our team and was used where it makes sense. In fact, he'd be killer under a Tressel ball game.
Sorry but what exactly did Bell prove? That he can run for less than 5 yds a carry against a completely new defensive line from the MWC?
Let the future games do the talking. I'm pretty sure Bell is not a one game wonder but lets wait and see what he can do.
Bell is damn good but there is many other players who could rush for 200 yards against Boise if you gave them 44 carries to do it
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
He's big and seems to be the center piece of MSU's offense. If he can stay healthy, I can see him in the heisman talk at years end.

He's very impressive. You know he's good when Boise State and Petersen know he's getting the ball and they can't stop him. Maxwell couldn't throw because his receivers can't catch. Boise is a very well coaced diciplined team. He should have a huge year, and I think Sparty with that defense wins the B1G.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Braxton only ran the ball 17 times and had 161. Imagine if he would've had 44 carries! And before anyone says it, I know we played a Mac team. But Boise doesn't have a very good defense and Braxton would've had probably 350 yards had he carries the ball 44 times. God forbid that ever happens though
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Bell is playing for a team with a line that is completely and totally built for the run. They've practiced the run all throughout camp and he ran the ball 44 times against a weak defense. You put any of our running backs in that situation and they'd do just as well. 44 carries for 210 yards is 4.8 yards per carry...against a bad defense, behind a line and gameplan built around the run...that's good not great or special or whatever other adjectives people have thrown around to describe it.
Yeah. Good start, but no way do I think this kid is one of the top players in America yet. Happy for him to have a solid performance though. Michigan State needs to find someone to replace Cousins, or they wont nearly be as threatening as people first thought.
Bell did not look like a Heisman RB at all...
