So, apparenlty, Buckeye nation's new west coast bff (due to his rekindled relationship with Urban Meyer) voted his Trojans #1 after he said that he wouldn't do that. Personally, I don't know why a coach would ever comment on how he is going to vote for something a month before he votes, but I also don't have a problem with him voting the Trojans #1. USC is going to be awesome this year. So, this story in and of itself is really a non-story. However, it further underscores why the poll method of selecting your college football national champion is in its death throes. The committee-selected playoff, and the Dec.31-Jan1 extravaganza that will host it, cannot come soon enough.

This is just Kiffin being Kiffin. The guy loves the attention he receives every time he opens his mouth. The interesting thing will be to see if he can actually lead this team and finish the season with a shot at the National Title. As far as I'm concerned, the jury is still out on if he is a decent coach or just a loudmouth self-promoting fool.
With regards to the coaches poll: I have never felt like there should be a coaches poll. It is well known that most coaches do not even fill out their ballot or make their votes, they have some assistant or secretary do it for them. The coaches don't watch all the games or always know what is going on around the country. But I don't see it changing any time soon.

Tenn, I have been under the impression that the reason the selection committee was proposed (ahem, Delaney), and then agreed upon, was because of the inadequacy of the poll system. At least, that is what Delany said. I guess it isn't set in stone how the committee will select the teams, but I would be surprised if they use the coaches poll as a factor at all.
