Jim Tressel

Years from now when the time is right, I feel Jim Tressel's name and achievements should be on display in Ohio Stadium next to other great coaches. I know Tress set the program back a year or two, but he did so much more good than bad for the university and football program. The Buckeyes were a dynasty in the Big 10 during the Tressel Era, 10 win seasons and BCS bowls was a given. Not to mention his record vs tSUN. His graduation percentage was also impressive. Interested to hear other peoples opinion. Go Bucks!

Much like Woody is still revered years later and honored all over campus even after a disgraceful exit...I think down the line we'll be doing the same for Tress. Especially when looking at all the other scandals taking place around the country it puts things into perspective that this was just really small potatoes. He screwed up and paid the price by losing his dream job but I don't expect he'll be punished for life.

Around OH, we'll love him.  Around the country, they'll say he cheated and looked the other way for Tattoo_Gate and the booster payments thing.

Troy Smith way, way, way before Tressel. In fact, I do not understand why #10 isnt up there yet.

It'll happen for Troy. Eddie won his Heisman in 1995 and got the digits retired in 01. Going to be ironic when Meyer is the coach for the Bucks the day Troy gets his moment!

4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off

If Troy Smith won the national title, would he be known as the best buckeye ever? It would be really hard to argue that.

He will be...time heals all wounds.  I agree with Bolt above, in time Tress will be where he deserves to be.  It will inevitably take some time for the University to honor him in the way that he should be.  He's no Joe Paterno...I hate seeing what happened at PSU and Tat-gate even some what juxtaposed in drivel/trash articles.  Made me want to puke when I saw stories on the internet or TV about how these scandals were even remotely comparable.  Anyhow...I can see JT back where he belongs...just like when Woody came back to Dot the I and speak at OSU commencement (BTW, if you've never seen that commencement speech...you should look it up.  I don't care how tough you "think" you are...you're gonna feel a little chocked up the first time you watch it).

First one is Woody Dotting the I

Second one is an 8 min. video on Woody.  Speech comes on at 5:00 mark but the whole thing is good.

1995-2001 is six years. 2006-2012 is six years. It should be soon.

When listing his accomplishments all you had to say was "Won a National Championship."

Troy would've most definitely gone down as one of the best Buckeyes ever had we beat Florida. The only person you could possibly list ahead of him would be Archie. Troy would've beat TTUN 3 times in 3 tries, won the Heisman, won a nat'l title, and led what would've arguably been one of the greatest teams in CFB history. That team would've gone wire to wire #1 and beat 3 teams ranked #2 in the country which had never been done before. The exposure of that nat'l title game was crushing. If only there was just some stupid way we could've pulled a win out in that game, wow. My biggest sore spot as an OSU fan ever...and now I root heavily for the man that crushed that dream.

Thank you BUCKEYE76BHOP. I have never seen that speech before, I wish I was old enough to have seen him coach. I hope Tress gets that same oppurtunity.

So what about the ten year anniversary of the national championship team. I"m sure you guys have heard the rumors about some type of tribute to that this year too.   Anyone think Tress will show for that?  Mo.C...?

I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.

It would be criminal indeed.  Love Tress.  Its hard to say he set us back a couple years when he advanced us so far ahead before that.  He deserves to be remembered for all the good he has done.  I will always see him in that light.

I fully agree - definitely honor Tressel, but it probably wouldn't hurt to wait a few years before doing so.

I'll always hold Tress in very high regard.

That man is a Saint! He made me the OSU fan I am today, family never watched college football just me and my brother, only coach we ever watched (10 yrs of the vest!) . Not going to rehash history but he lost his job ,paid his dues. He definitely deserves something. Didn't he also raise hundreds of millions of dollars for charitable events and donations. He did more than football for OSU.

Wherever you are, there you be!
