Heard he made up the crap about fans bothering him at his house late at night...believe it per Dave Biddle on twitter awhile back? Random I know, but I never saw it brought up again after that.
I don't think it was just Buckeye fans on Twitter, it was just people doing what they do on Twitter, like the several retweets by one asshole that Eddie George had tonight. Herbie couldn't stand that people didn't like him or called him an idiot or gave him a bunch of crap. He responded a couple of times and came off like a real D-Bag and realized maybe he was thick skinned enough for Twitter.
I may not have all the details correct, but there was an interview he did once that I read and that was the explanation he gave pretty much.
Pam - You could make the argument why some dropped OSU...seeing as we did play the entire season with multiple ineligble players. In any case, it was his opinion and not every opinion is going to be pro-OSU. Any OSU fan that hates on Herbie for being unbiased needs to calm down.
@Cincy - I don't think he's hated on for being unbiased. I do think there have been instances though where he almost seems to go out of his way to show he doesn't favor OSU. When he dropped OSU to 9th it was fairly absurd. His reasoning had nothing at all to do with OSU playing ineligible guys, because at that time, it had not yet come out that they had been in eligible the whole season. When asked about it he said he was tired when he filled out the ballot & then said something like "aside from beating Arkansas, what did they really do to move them up". It was a pretty dumb move on his part - sorry. Aside from that one, I've got no real problem with him but thought that was a really strange thing to do...

Herbie has done several things over the years to deserve some, but not all, of the criticism he's received from Buckeye fans:
1. When he called our offensive line "fat and lazy" a couple years back. Uncalled-for analysis that he would never have said about another team.
2. When he opined that he couldn't understand why an offensive recruit would want to play in Tressel's system. Again, never would have said that about another team.
3. When he left twitter, he made sure to throw Ohio State fans under the bus for it. And sure there were definitely a few people that went overboard, but a lot of people do that on twitter. He had the "block" option. He didn't have to contribute to perception of Oho State fans as a whole.
4. He did the same thing when he moved to Tennessee. He made it seem like the Ohio State fanbase is so crazy he had to move two states away. It was dishonest. His family likes Nashville. He didn't need to make it seem as if his family was in danger in Columbus. Again, he's done more to contribute to the perception that Buckeye Nation is comprised of nutjobs than anyone else because of his perceived credibility in the area.
5. He's plateaued as an analyst in general. He has terrific television presence and a marketable appearance/personality. But his analysis has become predictable and lacks any substance. There really should be a policy against allowing him to use the word "speed" more than 25 times in a broadcast.
Agree with Pam on the poll drop incident. That was utterly ridiculous and with all due respect to Cincy in this thread, no you really couldn't make that argument. Even Herbstreit himself didn't make that argument. When asked why he did that, his excuse in so many words was because he was tired -- he knew it was ridiculous, but he hated Pryor and Tressel and wanted to be a dick and he succeeded -- he just didn't have the nutsack to give the real reason because he knew it was baseless. For many folks who defended him up to that point, that polling incident was the last to break the camel's back with regard to defending Herbstreit.
As others have stated as well in this thread, there have been numerous incidents and things said where he was clearly targeting Ohio State and made negative statements that he would have never even come close to uttering about another school on national tv.
Overall though, what has always pushed me to despise the guy is that he is a shill. He gets up on local Columbus radio and states all kinds of positive things about Ohio State, then gets up on a national broadcast on ESPiN and states the opposite. I can't respect someone like that and I cringe every time I see him on TV. I hope all the lucrative TV deals and big paychecks are worth it. I for one would not be able to sleep at night if I were in his shoes doing the things he has done and saying some of the things he has said. Terrible.
1) That's called honesty. I've heard other analysts use similar comparisons with other teams. If it was anyone other than Herbie that said this, ppl likley would have agreed.
2) He was right...other than RB's, it was very hard to consistently get elite skill position talent. And the talent they did get usually was not properly developed(TP anyone??). Again, anyone other than Herbie and this is likely a non-issue.
3) I agree, he was likely a little too sensitive in regards to some of the twitter feedback...but
4) It wasn't just twitter comments that led to his remarks about OSU's fanbase. You forget, he did say it was not ALL, just the fringe, that was a part of his decision to leave. In that regard, I have to kind of agree with him. Our fringe fanbase is one of the loudest, most critical in the country. I've lived in areas other than Central Ohio...OSU fans are not well thought of because of this fringe faction.
5) I get what you mean some of his analysis to an extent, but you can't really call him out for being a fan of speed when our very own head coach raves about speed and builds his team around it.
Razor - What do you expect? His radio show in Cbus is largely geared towards OSU...and he can actually show a little bit of his bias here. On the national stage, he has to say things that we as fans don't want to hear from a fellow OSU guy. I've heard others be WAY more critical than Herbie towards OSU, yet we feel the need to bash the guy, and really anyone else who doesn't think we are #1 all the time. If Herbie wasn't an OSU guy, we wouldn't think twice about some of his comments. But some ppl feel the need to take it personally anytime he says anything even remotely negative(which is a lot of instances are correct). And what about all the good things he says?? Are we just going to ignore these comments? It's funny that some OSU fans feel this way. Outside of our bubble in Ohio, most ppl actually think he is an OSU homer.
I'm convinced, CONVINCED that Herbie just didn't like Jim Tressel. Think about some of the comments he made toward Tressel's teams. He wouldn't want his son playing in Tressel's offense. Tressel shouldn't recruit "those kind of players"(in reference to TP and MoC), and calling the O-Line fat and lazy. He always had something negative to say about Tressel led teams.
Last year he wasn't harsh on Fickell at all. He even picked the Buckeyes to win games and had good things to say about them heading into tough games. I've not heard him say one negative thing about Meyer or the Buckeyes for that matter basically since Tressel left.
My conclusion is, 1)He just didn't like the kind of football Tressel's teams played or 2) Maybe he had a little more info about Tressel than most of us were privy too and he knew eventually Ohio State was destined for something like Tatgate to happen.
These are of course my opinions, but I do think it's funny he hasn't been so concerned to show his love for the Buckeyes or being "objective" since Tressel has left.
Cincy - I expect him to be consistent -- I don't think that's asking too much. Do you see people hate on Spielman or Robert Smith? No.They are consistent. Spielman has the balls to say what he thinks to anyone who asks. He doesn't deliver one message to one audience and then change it for the next.

Mike Golich went positively ape shit when Rick Reilly wrote a hit piece on ND. His reaction was clearly visceral and while over the top, he was defending his alma mater against some pretty rough stuff from Reilly. Reilly was being honest and IMO was right about most of what he said about ND. But, I also understood Golich's reaction. Herbie has sat there countless times when his ESPN brethren have spewed their vitriol (Howard "I think Mark May said it best about the culture of corruption at OSU") and said nothing and worse, added some of his own. Calling TP selfish during the Iowa game and saying nothing when TP put the game on his back and set up the winning TD that put us in the SB. I respect Golich for his passion for his former school when it was under attack from one of his colleagues.
cincyous: I realize it is your knee jerk reaction to be the contrarian, but I have opinions based on what I see and hear just like you. Please don't tell me to calm down. Thanks
Well the comment that he shouldn't be recruiting "guys like that" when pretty much every school in America recruited "guys like that" didn't make a whole lot of sense.
My point with the post was, in a year where Ohio State should of really been criticized, LAST SEASON when the coaching was terrible and the play reflected it, where was his criticism? I never heard it last year.
Pam - I don't think I am being a contrarian on this subject. I feel that MOST OSU fans have nothing against Herbie and in my OPINION find if very irritating when ppl call him out for doing his job. A lot of what he has said about OSU has been true...it's not his fault it was negative, but some ppl take it personally because he is an OSU guy. Who cares how Golich handles his situation...different strokes for different folks. As I said before, I have lived in other areas that aren't Ohio and most ppl feel Herbie is too PRO OSU, which is why I laugh every time I hear the message board crowd hate on Herbie.
And I wasn't telling YOU to calm down personally...it was just a general statement.
@PAM - I used to listen to Mike and Mike in the morning all the time, but I can't stand each of their blatant homerism. Golic for ND, and especially Greenberg's unabiding love for all things Jets.
I'll admit that sometimes Herbstreit tries too hard to be unbiased towards OSU, but the guy puts his time in and knows what he's talking about. There probably isn't a finer pure analyst in all of college football. Also, keep in mind that I can remember many a time when Gameday came to Columbus that Herbstreit would call his children up on stage and pick the Buckeyes, to much adulation from the hometeam crowd. I honestly think that the guy is a Buckeye, through and through; I just wonder if maybe he tries a little hard to be contrarian against his alma mater so he won't be seen as a charicature, like Greeney and Golic.
Personally, I'll take the former over the latter any day.
Agree again Pam. Also just for the record, outside of the message boards I don't know any Buckeye fans at work, or in any of my social circles that like Herbstreit -- most are even more venomous in their description of their feelings on him than I am. Even one of my buddies at work who is a huge Michigan fan (please don't assault me for having a Michigan friend, hah) openly talks about Herbstreit and the media's obvious hate of Ohio State. When Toussaint's DUI at Michigan news first popped up and he and I talked about it, the first thing out of mouth was "I'm so glad we're not Ohio State or this would be all over sports center with a scrolling ticker".
Edit: Just to add, hope you all have a good Buckeye Footall Kickoff Eve. I'm on my way to the airport with the wife to make sure we get back to Columbus before kickoff. :) Go Bucks!
Albert, assuming that you're right about Herbstreit mainly just not liking Tressel: if Herbstreit now flips back to being officially neutral on Ohio State, while only partially disguising his Buckeye connection/fandom under Urbz, should the Buckeye family and/or staff simply re-embrace Herby with open arms?
As reported, it sounds like Urbz values keeping the ex-player fraternity active in the program and happy. It wouldn't suprise me, though (this is a pure guess), if some of the former players wouldn't mind if Herby got the cold shoulder at this point. What if Urbz sent a mailer to former players and Herby wasn't on the mailing list?
IMO, it'd be tempting to freeze-out Herby, but for "business" reasons, the Buckeye family should let bygones be bygones and pretend like Herby had never gone stupid in the first place.
Personally, I don't mind Herbie at all. Everyone is always talks about how the SEC being on ESPN all the time helps recruiting, well having a pro Buckeye as "the face of college football" and on our side has to be good to right? I can understand why people don't like him or call him fake assed Buckeye or whatever other names he has. I also would say that guy gave years of blood, sweat, and tears to the Buckeyes in practice and on the field. I'm sure he's given far more money than I ever could to the school, and I'm he's helped the school a lot by appearing at fundraisers and alumni events etc. So the guy has done way more for the school and program than most of us lobbing names and insults have ever even though about doing.
The point Pam is trying to make and it is exactly my point of view is that Herbie on ESPN acts like he isn't a homer and doesn't support the buckeyes. And Hodge, if anyone spewed out as much about their own teams as Mike and Mike do (greenberg with the Jets and Golic with ND) then I have a problem with it. But when EVERYONE knows Herbie is an OSU homer and he goes out of his way to act like he isn't, it comes off fake and irritating!
Cincyosu, you say he is very pro buckeye on his radio show? Then act like you give a crap when you are on TV. If there is a legal obligation to not be a homer because you are calling the game, like he used to, then I understand that. But he doesn't call buckeye games anymore and yet he still tries to act like he isn't associated with OSU.
Point is it looks and sounds fake when he tries to not be a homer. Don't go crazy and over the top like Mike and Mike but at least own up to it!
If you guys think Herbie left Upper Arlington because of the "lunatic fringe" of the OSU fanbase (where probably none of the lunatic fringe reside), then you're all just a little gullible. If it was a factor, it was a very small factor. But trust me, there were other reasons why he moved. I think he just used the fact that he was already moving as an apportunity to try to shame some of the fringe Buckeye fans into possibly maturing a little bit (and let's be honest, there is a very vocal lunatic fringe of this fanbase that needs to grow up).
Herbie's always been alright in my book. Yes, I do think there are times he goes out of his way to criticize OSU to please his audience/employers, but when I saw him jumping up and down at teh 2003 Fiesta Bowl, that was genuine joy only a true Buckeye would know. In fact, it was probably because of that image that ESPiN made him tone it down a little. He's not Holtz, May, or Golich. He, Fowler, and Musberger are supposed to be the objective guys.
@SQUIRREL - But the thing is that we constantly berate guys like Desmond and May for being homerish buffoons. Maybe I'm unique, but I appreciate the fact that Herbie can be objective. Sure, there's times when he crosses the line, but I think we're just sensitive to that kind of stuff because (a) he's our guy and (b) he's one of the most prominent figures of ESPN's college football coverage. And I still disagree that he doesn't act like he's a Buckeye--the guy used to do a radio show in Columbus while working for ESPN, he just tones that down in order to be objective on a national stage. Sure, the three-spot-drop after the Sugar Bowl win was a dick move, I'm not debating that; I just think we unfairly want him to abandon his greatest asset (his objectivity) because we percieve him slighting his hometown team. Yet, that's the reason why he's revered amongst his brethren: unlike Desmond, May, Golic, Greeny, and almost their entire baseball coverage department, he doesn't pull punches or play favorites on air.
I'm still proud of the fact that he's a Buckeye, and that our guy has made it to the top of college football television.
2) He was right...other than RB's, it was very hard to consistently get elite skill position talent. And the talent they did get usually was not properly developed(TP anyone??). Again, anyone other than Herbie and this is likely a non-issue.
He most certainly wasn't right. Jim Tressel produced TONS of offensive talent including the program's only Heisman winning QB. Herbie was speaking from his behind on that one unless he feels Ted Ginn, Santonio Holmes, Nick Mangold, Troy Smith, Anthony Gonzalez, Brian Robiskie, Brian Hartline...etc all should have gone to other schools.
^^^How are Robiskie, Gonzo, Hartline, and Smith doing in the NFL? The point I was making(and also Herbie) was that elite SKILL position players....ie QB's and WR's were reluctant to come here. Of the players you mentioned, only Ginn and Holmes were highly rated prospects...the rest became good players through hard work, but that wasnt the point. The point was that elite talent went elsewhere during the Tressel years. Why would a WR or QB want to come somewhere that called such conservative plays?
Squirrel - So what do you call it when he has, on multiple occasions, brought his children on the Gameday set wearing OSU gear head to toe? The reason he stays at arms length on most broadcasts is simple....its called being a professional.

What does how they're doing in the NFL have to do with anything? The comment Herbie made was that if his kid were an elite offensive HS prospect, he wouldn't let them go to OSU. The fact that Tressel took the players I listed and turned them into high NFL draft picks shows how off base that statement was. The point wasn't Herbie sayintg the elite talent DID go elsewhere, the point was him saying elite talent SHOULD go elsewhere. It was a completely idiotic thing to say and he deserves all the flak he gets over it.
I make it very clear in my personal life that I am a Buckeye fan. Are you kidding me? My Dad played there and he was a captain. And I played there. There is nothing more important to me than Ohio State. But when I'm on air, I don't go out of my way to stick Ohio State. I also don't go out of my way to compliment Ohio State. When I'm on air, I look at Ohio State like I look at Florida, like I look at Texas, or anybody else. That's the way I analyze it."
Ok, show me 1 example of Herbie saying highly rated kids SHOULDN'T go to one of those schools. If he did, then his statement I bolded has merit. If not, its a bold faced lie. I believe he loves Ohio State, I also believe he didn't like Tressel, but he also goes so far out of his way not to be a homer, he at times becomes a hater.
Can't you guys ever be objective? I'm glad Herbie called out Tressel in '04 for his offensive ineptitude, and it ultimately helped the Buckeyes. The 2002 OSU offense was one of the worst ever to win a national title. The 2003 offense was WAYYY worse (332 ypg) and then in 2004 it was downright awful (320 ypg... for comparison, the Walrusball averaged 318 ypg last year). But after Herbie called out Tress, what happened? The Vest got more creative. More shotgun. Start Troy Smith for good. Run some option. End arounds with Holmes and Ginn.
With essentially the same personell, Ohio State went from a Walrus-esque 320.8 yards per game in 2004 to a blistering 422.3 yards per game in 2005. And do you think it's any coincidence that two years after his comments - when it was evident The Vest changed his philosophy - that he brought his sons onto the set of Gameday clad in Scarlet and Gray before the PSU game? That was Herbie saying "Tress, I'm impressed with the changes you made in the offense the last seaosna nd a half. I'd love for my sons to play for you."
The point is, Herbie was right. OSU's offense was downright awful back then, and I woudl have said the same thing. If your son's an elite wideout or QB with a potential NFL career on the line, why would you send him to play in that unimaginative offense? He was sayign what everyone else had already said to these kids on the recruiting trail, and Herbie was relaying the message to Tress by essentially saying "This is what Saban-Carroll-Carr-Spurrier-Zook are all telling recruits."
Squirrel - So what do you call it when he has, on multiple occasions, brought his children on the Gameday set wearing OSU gear head to toe? The reason he stays at arms length on most broadcasts is simple....its called being a professional.
Getting into a Twitter battle with a 19 year old kid is being professional?
It has to do with recruiting, and it makes sense. Heck, a lot of us questioned and still do, Tressel's conservative system(I'm not knocking Tress but his offense was boring) and elite skill recruits most certainly saw this. This is why we routinely missed out on 4 and 5 star prospects for other schools, while we took chances and developed 3 star talent. Why would a 5 star guy out of FL want to come to snowy Cbus and watch us run the ball 70% of the time? The point he made(if the context is even correct) was valid.
On that note, can anyone provide a link to this statement? I've seen different variations on what ppl think he actually said.
Yes, it makes sense to feel that way about the offensive playcalling. What doesn't make sense is saying it on a national broadcast. Say it to Tressel in private, but doing it how he did was more negative than it needed to be. It was downright idiotic.
As for a link, I heard it live so I'm not sure if it was ever printed. Admittedly, I've drank ALOT of alcohol in the last 8 years so its possible I could be making it worse than it was at the time.
"Looks good in a uniform", "makes plays in space" "possesses elite speed"...make a drinking game out these phrases every time Herbie says them. You'll be blind drunk every Saturday - if you're not already!
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Cincy, never said Herbie hates OSU. Never said he has to be unprofessional. and Hodge, I never blast anyone for being a homer! These analyst can talk up their program all they want as long as they keep it to a certain limit. Herbie can be professional and still act like OSU is his team. If people want to bash analysts for loving their team and believing in them then they my friend are wrong. You can show love to your team, even blind love, and still be professional. The problem is when someone, Mark May for example, proceeds to bash a team over and over again without much cause. I mean, I am practically serious when I say Mark May goes out of his way to bash OSU when the topic has nothing to do with OSU. Desmond Howard can wish upon a star all he wants that his team will win this week and go undefeated. I don't care about that! He crosses the line when he says stuff about OSU! AND HERBIE JUST SITS THERE AND TAKES IT! The rule is simple, talk about your team all you want and I will talk about my team all I want. You start in on my team without being antagonized or asked a specific question, then you cross the line!
Cincy, good herbie has his kids dress up in OSU gear. Never said anything that he doesn't support his team when the cameras are off. But once he is asked something about them, he changes and he becomes fake! I much rather have him talk trash then just look fake trying not to!
you can be a homer and still be professional! The 2 don't have to coincide!
Cincy, why wouldn't a 5 star out of Florida want to come to OSU? Maybe he never has seen snow before and wants to see it and be around it. Maybe he hates Florida and never wanted to live there his whole life so far. Maybe he is a die hard buckeye fan and just wants to play there more than anything else.
I lived in Florida and I currently live in Kentucky. I will take living in Kentucky over Florida any day. Florida is nice to visit, horrible to live year round. You see the ugly side and you don't take advantage of the good stuff enough of the time.
Lack of top talent coming to OSU could and should be more on the direct recruiters, Bollman and Heacock! They screwed up the most! Tressel tried to get top talent across the nation! Then he has to hear Herbie say crap like that! It may be true but it doesn't help the cause!
You lose professional credibility when you gush over something that is close and personal to you...whether you are a sportscaster, reporter, newscaster, etc. You have to remain objective in the eyes of audience as a whole....getting into a pissing match with Mark May or Des Howard because they hate on your alma mater would look VERY childish. You absolutely CANNOT be a homer, esp on a national stage, and expect ppl to respect your opinion professionally.
@SQUIRREL - I wasn't referring to you, per se, on homerism with announcers; I personally believe, though, that an analyst should be as objective and neutral as possible, at least in terms of a national broadcast. Local broadcasters should be homers, but not so much when you're delivering a product for the national stage. I think that Herbie sets an example when he doesn't take Desmond's bait, that's why he's doing color commentary on all the major games and Desmond's relegated to pregame and postgame analysis.
Hence why I mentioned Mike and Mike. They are a national show anchored by two blatant homers, therefore I massively devalue their opinions on anything Notre Dame or New York Jets, and refuse to listen to their show because they disproportionately talk about said subjects. I don't want these guys on Gameday, either. Desmond's a definite homer, but he keeps a decent handle on it (though not as well as Corso, Fowler, or Herby) and provides solid analysis. Conversely, there is a clear reason why Lou Holtz and Mark May have been largely relegated to "B Team" duty: they cannot disassociate themselves with their schools, and people hate them for it.
since when do we defend Turdstreit? Thats like saying Craig James "didn't" kill 5 hookers while at SMU... in the words of the great "lost" one, DJ Byrnes, SHM.
but you do agree that Desmond plays his homer card with some limit. And that is the point, just do it to a certain level. Mike and Mike are way over the top! I also agree about Holtz and May because they make it personal. Herbie can jab right back at Desmond and keep it humorous! He doesn't have to be angry about it. There is a certain level that you don't want to approach when being a homer. But there are a lot of successful analysts out there that we don't mind watching and are free to express their favorite teams.
Fine, he doesn't have to be a homer but it looks so fake when you can see him trying not to. We all know he wants to say something and defend his school. I just think he should let it out and just do it!
Herbie let too much go by without defending Ohio State over the past year and did probably more harm than good to our national image, especially because he is an Ohio State alum. I'm not asking him to schill for OSU. I'm asking him to treat us with the same courtesy and respect on national television as he would any other team. And I'm asking him not to join in the ESPN party when they pile on Ohio State.
It's not too much to ask.
EDIT: What Desmond Howard said about Ohio State... for Herbie to let that go? Shameful. Just shameful. #FakeBuckeye
Why blame Herbie for what Desmond said? He's not our boyfriend, he doesn't have an obligation to defend our program everytime a former Wolverine wants to talk shit. Desmond pulled a dick move, and Herbie took the high road--obviously showing the merit of his degree, and the school from which he received it.
I believe first and foremost, anyone who played football for this school is way more "real" of a Buckeye than any of us schulbs talking about it online. I think Pam has maybe told stories about him being on an alumni cruise or something like that, where she took part. He did that for the university. When you know a celebrity(and as far as Ohio State goes there are few Buckeyes more recognizable than Herbie) signs on to do something like that it helps the event.
My guess is, no one on this site has dedicated the time, money, and energy to Ohio State as Herbie has. He was a student, a player, and has been an ambassador to the school in the community. Lord only knows how much money has been donated because of Kirk or he has donated personally. So, I really don't think any of us on here are in the position to call him a fake buckeye when the overwhelming majority of us on this site haven't made 1/100, hell 1/1000 of the contribution to the school and program that Herbie has.
I also think it's funny no one every calls out Robert Smith on here. I've never heard him Rah Rah for Ohio State on TV. I've never heard him really stick up for the Buckeyes all that much on ESPN either. Why does he get a pass? Also, every time a Buckeye gets kicked off the team of effs up or leaves early or gets hurt, or goes to jail there's the first thing people say are comments like He's a Buckeye there for my brother. Or He's a buckeye I still wish him well etc..... No one give Herbie that luxury.
@2002Grad - "EDIT: What Desmond Howard said about Ohio State... for Herbie to let that go? Shameful. Just shameful. #FakeBuckeye"
What are you talking about????? Herbie wasn't even on the set when Howard made his comments. What do you expect, Herbie to storm on the set in his street clothes and punch Howard in the head? Comment like yours make ZERO sense. #dumbcomment!
It would be hilarious if Herbie stormed the set and started beating the shit out of Desmond. That jackass could use a nice punch in the mouth. But obviously, he can't do that.
Herbstreit tries to be a professional, and does a pretty good job. Sometimes, I do feel like he tries too hard to avoid looking like an OSU homer. He's also had his share of favorable comments about OSU (picking us against Miami in '02 when pretty much nobody else did). I don't love or hate the guy - I think he does solid work, and would much rather see him on my TV than Desmond, Mark May, or Lou Holtz - and most other color analysts on ESPN.
BT, I for one am not calling Herbie a fake himself or not a "real" buckeye. I am just saying that he is looking fake on tv when he tries to not be a homer or speak how he really feels about OSU. It comes off fake.
Can anyone confirm either way whether or not the house harassment was true or not? He used it as a reason to leave town, but have heard rumors (or facts? I don't know) that he just made it up. Pretty lame if he made it up to make the fanbase look bad as a cop out.
Remember the '06 Michigan game? He and Musburger were calling Tressel the best play-caller in college football in that first half.
I always lol at that best play caller crap. Just like when Musburger & Herbstreit were gushing over McGroin in the 2010 Penn State game in the first half, lol. "Can you imagine what that game against Alabama might have looked like if McGroin had been playing instead of Bolden"? lmfao...probably would've been a little bigger blowout after McGroin throws his customary pair of pick-sixes.
this may be a dumb question, but why did he leave in the first place? was this related to his having to move to tennessee because of crazy fans?
Heard he made up the crap about fans bothering him at his house late at night...believe it per Dave Biddle on twitter awhile back? Random I know, but I never saw it brought up again after that.
I hope crazy Buckeye fans leave Herbie alone this time.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
I don't think it was just Buckeye fans on Twitter, it was just people doing what they do on Twitter, like the several retweets by one asshole that Eddie George had tonight. Herbie couldn't stand that people didn't like him or called him an idiot or gave him a bunch of crap. He responded a couple of times and came off like a real D-Bag and realized maybe he was thick skinned enough for Twitter.
I may not have all the details correct, but there was an interview he did once that I read and that was the explanation he gave pretty much.
I think it was after he dropped tOSU 9 spots ( along with Chris Fowler) after they WON the Sugar Bowl that Herbie decided twitter was not for him
Poor herbie didnt deserve any flak he got, i'm still suprised buckeye nation hasnt tried to console the wrong they did to him
Pam = Mod. Am I late to this party?
I was, but congrats anyway Pam!
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Some? TWO made the argument, Herbie and Chris Fowler. And when asked why he didn't say a word about using ineligible players.
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2011/01/herbie-the-impaler
Edit: He moved them down 3 spots from 6 to 9, not 9 spots. My bad
Yes, I was recruited for the mod class of 2012 and signed a LOI.
Can you blame Herbie for saying that? I can't.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
^^^This.
Nice little article about how much Herbie hates OSU

Thats like saying Craig James "didn't" kill 5 hookers while at SMU... in the words of the great "lost" one, DJ Byrnes, SHM.
theDuke
but you do agree that Desmond plays his homer card with some limit.
@Hodge... Agree... very well said.
Very good point Hodge. Well said.
Desmond is a self serving douche with a marginal IQ. Nuff said.

Class of 2010.
@ Redstorm
I always lol at that best play caller crap. Just like when Musburger & Herbstreit were gushing over McGroin in the 2010 Penn State game in the first half, lol. "Can you imagine what that game against Alabama might have looked like if McGroin had been playing instead of Bolden"? lmfao...probably would've been a little bigger blowout after McGroin throws his customary pair of pick-sixes.
