Posted in regards to BTN bus tour of big ten campuses
Gerry DiNardo @gerrydinardo
BTN Bus Tour #Buckeyes Overall one of the best run practices we've seen, so far best team we've seen, so far best young talent we've seen
and i love this quote from him.
BTN Bus Tour #Buckeyes I don't think you can win a National Championship in the spread unless you have Heisman Trophy @ QB OSU could have 1

That's encouraging. I wouldn't have seen this since I almost never check Twitter, so thanks for posting it.
I clicked on it... I regretted it immediately...
Though it is encouraging take it with a grain of salt. These guys only cover B1G teams and are comparing this pratice to a very small sample size
DiNardo knows a thing or two about college football, don't discount him just because he works for BTN
I hardly meant to discount the accolade, just pointing out that there is room for a very bias view in his assessment
Gotcha, but if he still thinks we're the best young team in the conference after he concludes his tour, that's high praise from a guy who knows his way around the game. The B1G is step 1, everything else can proceed from there.
While entertaining, this really doesn't mean anything.
Coming out of DiNardo's mouth, it does mean something.....He never seemed too high on OSU before IMHO
DiNardo is a former coach so he knows more about college football than 98% of the world at least.
FWIW, have yet to travel to PSU, UofM or MSU
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

i was just posting it for fun. damn you all are salty around here lately lol

So when DiNardo says stuff we don't like on Saturday's he's an idiot, but when he says stuff we like we need to take note because he knows his stuff?
I just heard DiNardo say he doubts whether the spread can win the national championship. Is he crazy? Urbz and the Gators have 2, and Auburn with $cam Newton has one. Am I missing something?
P.S. This was on the BTN preview a few minutes before Urban comes on.
Texas with Vince Young as well.

The problem isn't the spread offense the problem is historically teams that run a spread usually don't have dominating defenses.

They also stated that they have a different aspect that URbz didn't have before with a north-south bruiser of a running back in what they see is Carlos Hyde. He stated in the preview, almost mirroring what is above, that a spread offense can't win unless they have a heisman candidate. He also followed that statement up with his belief that Ohio st. has a potential future heisman candidate in Braxton.

@ Maestro
What I was watching had DiNardo say that he doesn't think a team running a spread offense can win a national championship unless they have a Heisman candidate at QB. Urban himself would probably agree with that, as he has stated that in his offense, if the QB has a bad day, they will lose, since the QB is making a read on 90% of the snaps run, especially running plays.
DiNardo also stated that he think we do have a potential Heisman candidate in Braxton, for what it's worth.
I don't really know if it's as bold of a statement as it pretends to be, since how many teams can win a national championship without a Heisman candidate at either QB or RB? Urban's spread just puts a lot of power and responsibility in the hands of its QB, so I would agree that we couldn't win a NC unless our QB was at least in the discussion for Heisman.
I dont think you need a "heisman candidate" persay..just a QB that knows and runs the offense efficiently with few mistakes. Oregon was in the BCS title game in 2010 without a heisman contender. LSU ran some form of a spread when they beat us in the title game wih Matt Flynn..who wasnt a heisman candidate either.
The heisman candidate statement by Dinardo is invalid and not a key component in my opinion

I would swear he just said he wasn't sure a spread could win the MNC though this wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.
No he said without Heisman candidate at qb
