The Buckeyes have a very real chance to be national champions next year. They will be enormously aided in the quest by having as many 2013ers enroll early. The more the better. Think how crucial it will be to have Marshall, Barrett Bosa, Elliot, Burrows, Jacobs, Lisle, Price, Woodard, Sprinkle, etc. through Coach Micks winter conditioning and having a fundamental understanding of the system before August. It might very well mean the difference between grabbing the brass ring or falling short. Does anyone have any information on who will enroll early?

Tyquan Lewis is for sure, obviously though, he isn't committed at this time.
I'm bored, so I'm gonna do some investigative work for you and keep updating this comment:
-Baugh is not
- In his interview after the Spring Game, Eli Woodard said he was working with a counselor to graduate in December.
- JT Barrett will be enrolling early
- Billy Price is not due to track
The only true freshman I see helping to the point where it helps wins a natty title is Marshall in the return game and on gimmick stuff. We'll he loaded at just about every position.
Im more concerned about Hankins and Roby returning, replacing Simons production and leadership..which I think will be greatly more important.

Leadership and early NFL departures are definitely a factor. The possible early departure of Hankins and Roby can be somewhat, maybe crucially, offset by the early availability of Bosa, Price, Woodard, Burrows Thompson, etc. The 2013 schedule has Vanderbilt, Cal, and Wisconsin all by 28 Sept. Where would we be this year if Dunn, Decker, Thomas, Boren, and Perry had not had the advantage of winter conditioning and spring ball? The answer could be..ucckfayed.
Agree with BuckeyeJason. If there's one guy I want to enroll early it's Marshall. There's just nobody on the squad right now with his skill set. If he can get the extra prep that goes with enrolling early, he could be the X factor for a national championship run in '13. Ez E would be my second choice.
I know things change, but I thought Hankins said he's coming back no matter what. At any rate, I think 2013 it's possible but 2014 is the year they'll be best primed to win a title. That's of course if all these terrific recruits pan out and guys stay healthy etc. 2013 will be a great season, but 2014 I think is the year.
Last I heard Hankins said he was focused on draft boards, but was focusing on the season... I don't think I've ever read he said he is coming back for sure.
If I could pick the most crucial early enrollees it would be: Marshall - absolutely unique game changing talent, Woodard - We are thin at corner and he is for real, Lisle - We will lose Fragle and Mewhort, Elliot - a different type of back from Dunn or Hyde and can play the slot, Bosa - plenty of d-line depth but he is a monster, Barrett - just like to have as much experience at QB as possible.
We can only hope that OConnor, Elflein and Dodson deliver. Lisle is crucial.
I have a vague memory of Tracy Sprinkle mentioning last spring that he was planning on enrolling early as well. Not positive but he might be a possibility.
I could of swore there was an article about him talking about wanting to win a national championship and he'd be back.
Am thinking that Marshall, Bosa, Burrows, and Woodard can contribute next season. Not sure about the rest.
@Buckeyewags, Mewhort is a Jr, and I don't think he's a likely candidate for early departure.
Guys with the NFL having a rookie signing cape it does not pay to come out early anymore unless you are top 5 pick. Plus I am welling to say that the underclassmen are going to want a shoot at a NAT title.
BTALBERT:
I think 2013 is a better chance to win it and here's why(I may be going against my "returning starters are overrated" rule but whatevs)
2014 we will probably only be returning 1 o-lineman in Decker.
We'd be losing experienced veterans Mewhort, Linsley, Norwell, and Hall
We lose Key offensive players Carlos Hyde and Corey Brown..who will be key players from 2013. Devin Smith could possibly jet after 2013 with a big year.
The defense will be losing Key starters Hankins(if he doesn't leave after this year), Roby(possibly), Barnett, Bryant, and Corey Brown(depth).
To sum it up going into 2014 we'll be with a whole new o-line, no Philly or Hyde..no All-American space eater, lockdown corner, and 2 veteran safeties(basically our whole secondary).
2013 looks better on paper than 2014.

Let's see how good this team is this year before 2013...
Agree with BuckeyeJason. I think we are best setup for 2013, and then 2015 on. 2014 will be a transition year while the Meyer recruiting classes really get up to speed. Particularly on the O-line and secondary.
2014 still has the potential to be very good. Probably looking at Decker, Boren, and Dodson/Lisle has the OL with some experience (decker, boren, and dodson will all be in their 3rd year) so 2 guards from either the 2012 class or 2013 class need to step up. I could see our line that year looking similar to the line this year. Not to mention we could see some freshman if we land a stud or two in 2014 that enrolls early.
Brionte Dunn will be a junior with plenty of experience and has the potential to be even better than Hyde. Philly is a great talent but we will still have the likes of Smith, Thomas, Reed, Spencer, Epitroupolus, Southward, Marshall, Jacobs, and possibly Gibson/Quick just to name a few. Smith Reed and Spencer will all be seniors with Thomas, Frank, and Southward as juniors or even RS Sophs.
The DL wont miss a beat with the guys Urban is recruiting. Schutt may not be as good as Hankins, but he will be a very good space eater next to Washington, SPence, Pittman, Bosa, among others. Secondary I will concede though. Untill we see how the 2012 secondary develops and how well our stellar 2013 class does, it remains a fairly large question mark for 2014.
So while we may be primed for a 2013 title run, dont count us out in 2014
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I read on a bucknuts post a few months ago that Marshall does not plan to enroll early, I can't find the link however. I believe he mentioned wanting to stay for track and just to enjoy his senior year.
I believe Bosa plans on enrolling early.
2014 we'll have a shot because
1.Braxton will be a senior..and hopefully one of the top players in America.
2. The D-line could be the best pass rushing unit in the big Ten with Bennett, Wash, Miller/Spence, Schutt/Hale.
3. Maybe the most athletic group of LB's in OSU history in Shazier, Grant and Perry.

I look at it this way, as long as Meyer brings in top 5 classes every year like he will be we should be fine in 2014. We will loose a lot of OL but like someone pointed out we will have 3-4 guys with a couple years experience of some kind. We will have good depth and experience in all the positions except the secondary and OL. But with Burrows and Woodard, Thompson, and possible Bell as sophomores or Rfreshmen I think it will be better then expected. I know you don't hit on all players but Roby was only a redshirt freshmen last year and he was a beast. You are going to have in-experienced players every year you just can't have a ton of them. I expect what Saban has done at Alabama he looses top players every year but reloads. They do have a down year every couple a years which is 9-10 wins for them which isn't bad. I would expect to contend of a NT every other year and sometimes every year.
Pretty much what we are used to Tressel was in the hunt every year, and every year we would be worried about incoming freshmen having to play or in-experienced players. I am confident in the coaching staff to coach these kids up. Also a lot more kids are coming in eary giving them a lot more time to adjust to college football then coming in during the fall camp. So more freshmen will be ready to play earlier. just in IMO
I think that Najee Murray will end up being one of the good ones when all is said and done. Which, I guess, gives me hope for the secondary in 2014.
