Say no to Derrick Green, but yes to David Williams?  Not sure any more RB's will be in this class.

Yeah sounds like he's not in tune with what the staff wants, but you almost feel bad for PSU here. They all but had Tyler Boyd and David Williams committed, and in a single day, they lose the chance at those guys, and every current commit becomes a tentative one.

I would never question Urban Meyers recruiting habits but... Im going to anyway haha. Why didnt he go HARD after Green and Foster, 2 unbelievable playmakers and then focus all his attention on Vonn Bell. With the 1 or 2 or whatever remaining spots go after another lineman. I would call that the perfect recruiting class. But hey he surely knows something I dont and probly has some stud lined up for next years class and cant take any more RB's cuz we're stacked at the position. I just dont see how u can realistically get much better than Green.

@Shadybuckeye Call me crazy but I've personally always thought Green was a little bit overrated. Dont get me wrong i still think he's a playmaker but from all the highlights i've seen he showed next to no breakway speed. He has the strength and size to go over CFB defenders but i'm not even close to convined he has the speed to be a dominant back. IMO he's definitley not the right back for our system, I would honestley rather have 'Zeke.

Because David Williams isn't the same type of RB as Green. He'd be used in multiple positions and wouldn't just be a RB.

JD, I agree. If we take a second back Williams is the better choice.

Shady.....Urban did go after both Green and Foster HARD, in the beginning.  However, his recruiting strategy changed when it came to Green.  It's not that he didn't want him (I'm sure it wasn't easy for Urban to tell him that they were no longer recruiting him), but there were more pressing needs.

In regards to Foster, Urban was HARD after him as well, in the beginning.  But after the stunt Foster pulled during an unofficial when he kind of blew off and laughed at the academic aspects, that pissed Urban off and he backed off.  Now I don't know all the details about Foster apologizing and trying to rectify the situation to try and get back in good graces, but I think that pretty much broke the camel's back.  Urban wants quality, good character guys and Foster is a potential red flag.  Don't get me wrong, I'm just as frustrated as the next guy that OSU won't be getting either of these guys, but I'm very satisfied with the guys already committed and still going after.

As far as Vonn Bell goes, you are absolutely right that Urban better continue to go after him hard and convince him to come to OSU.

247 actually lists Williams as an all-purpose back.

Does Hayes moving on in his life and opening another scholly, give Williams a scholly? Or do we go back at Green? Or neither?

Hayes schollie gives us 17, so that just makes us closer to the presumed 20 spots we figured we'd have, doesnt open up for anyone else.

Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens

Don't be surprised if OSU goes after Williams since Hayes is out...this should open up an additional scholarship and I would expect there to be at least 2 if not 3 more of those types leaving by the end of 2012 season or for recruiting 2013 class.  Not to mention...they could open back up to Green but that ship has probably sailed IMHO and I'm sure most others too.  I tend to agree with others above, Green is a Monster of a back...but OSU already has in 2 Hyde and Smith (as well as Dunn and Ball who are both over 200lbs).  Williams fits the mold just like or similar to E-Z-E.  We'll see but I've heard multiple places Williams has the good guys on top...as of now of course.

I like the kid. Pretty shifty with the ball and good vision. Seems to fit the spread scheme better than green. Maybe use him at the slot. Greens a beast but with Hyde, Smith and Dunn here now and with Hall being a senior, id like to see him in this class.

Contrary to what people think, Hayes doesn't open up a scholly for a recruit past 20. We now have 18 open scholarships (15 seniors, 1 banked from Diggs, 1 from Bobek, and now 1 from Hayes). We need 2 more people to leave to even get to the point where we can get 20, let alone start recruiting new people

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Triv: it's not clear, as far as I know. If they were projecting 20 and including Hayes as a likely loss, then no. But if they were projecting 20 before learning that Hayes would gone, then presumably the projection would now be 21, right? In any case, Hayes leaving unexpectedly would expedite the "race to 20," so to speak, would it not?

I think we'll get to 21-22 no problem. We have 18 now, plus normal attrition like a couple leaving most likely to go pro or a couple leaving due to playing time or dislike of the new staff. We might even have enough to bank a few for 2014.

I bet he is one jam up kid and he is highly talented. It does make me nervous when I see a hilight film with this [music] framing his play. I don't know anything about this kid so I assume he has top notch character, especially if he is at the top of our board.

I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.

The possible attrition is why the number is stated as 20-22.  Hayes would be what was considered the possible attrition.

Doesn't add to the 20-22 estimates out there.

Roby or Hankins' futures will probably determine how many spots we have left.

Thanks Derek...I asked that question on Hayes thread.  Greatly appreciated.
