I would have to admit that during his freshman year i thought this kid might be the next T Dorsett. I had zero knowledge of his character or his true abilities at that time. Hints of how he was recruited and what he drove and his general feeling of being treated supremely were not known until later by those away from Columbus. I do not care how good a player is Prima Donnas hard hard to enjoy unless you are blind. One thing I can say about Mr Urb is that I cannot recall any of his teams having one of these players. So if he had one he controlled and managed the situation well. So my point is if he drops a recruit there just may be a reason for it that I am sure he would not share in public. Tressell Ball thank goodness is a thing of the past.

For one, I don't understand the hate towards Tressel, who just finished off arguably the most successful decade in the history of the program. It is unwarranted and wearing thin at this point, he is one of our greatest coaches, lets treat him like one. I would sign up for another decade of Tresselball in a moments time.
Secondly, you must have not read the rumors/articles about Percy Harvin's time at Florida. All teams have these players and I agree, it certainly makes it challenging to root for that particular player. Was Urban really better at handling/covering the situation or did we just not hear about it until now because we were outside of Gainesville? You'd have to ask Gator fans that question. Tressel's teams had these players over the years too, but I wouldn't say he was ran on by recruits or players anymore than the average coach. As far as Coach Meyer goes, I am so excited for the man, he is one of the top 2-3 coaches in college football right now. However, let's not already annoint this guy as perfect. Every decision he makes is not gold wrapped in a bow tie. He is going to make mistakes, he is going to have hiccups along the way. Tressel certainly did, Woody did, Bruce did, they all will. Coach Meyer is a damn fine coach, but he doesn't arrive without some shortcomings. Perfection is what he is striving for, he hasn't already attained it.
Finally, to your topic about Clarett? He helped win us a national championship, has worked tirelessly to become a better man and a better student and still has a ton of love for the Ohio State University, and I feel the same way about him.
He has turned around his life. Really a great story that most people don't talk about. I know there is going to be an ESPN 30 for 30 about him. So happy for the guy.
Oh and FYI, Meyer recruited Mo when he was a ND asst.
Liked.
Disliked.
Liked Again.
His is a story that so many young men can learn from. He made mistakes, paid for them, and has turned the corner so to speak. At this point I got nothin but love for the guy.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
I agree no need to bring up Coach Tressel. They will because as OSU07ASU10 stated, he will always be one of OSU greatest coaches. We read things about college players & comments such as they are "just kids"or "young boys" & yet they are young men (when applies) to make a good story. Clarrett falls in the category of "just a kid", who was not ready for the success & big stage. I'am glad to see that he is turning his life around. His potential (though never reached) had the makings of a truly Great one.
I wish he still had some college eligibility left! I remember watching him his freshman year in that Texas Tech game and thinking the kid was something special.
It was easy after the fact to say life would of been much easier had MoC not come to Ohio State, but then we wouldn't have made it to or won the title in 2002. I'd rather have the hardware and memories of that season and go through the turmoil, than not.
Then you look at what he's doing now. He has straitened his life out, and he's going to be quite an inspriation for kids coming from similar backgrounds. He could be quite a mentor for kids coming to the program, or just kids coming from unfortunate backgrounds.
I think MoC has been a fascinating story, I'm rooting for the guy and I can't wait to see his espn 30/30.
I am glad to hear that he is turning his life around. His mistakes he made was when he was a kid.
Claritatea îs licee. Wasnt happy With him in 2003 and 2004 but he's matured and I'm rooting for him again.
Once you've played for the Bucks, you're like family to me. You can disappoint me or make me wish you'd mature or change a little, but you can never make me not root for you or hope things work out for you.
I don't know if it's been done or not but I would really like to see a story about what happened to the Buckeyes. Like Dan Wilkinson, or Andy Katzemoyer. I know Katzemoyer is coaching but they never really say much about it. I think it would be a really great article to read!
Hahaha this post makes no sense
There was a huge thing about how Meyer favored certain players and catered to them while at Florida in a much bigger way than Tress ever did
fail
CPlunk I generally agree but there are rare exceptions. Clarett's def deserving of Buckeye love, but I'd like to see the same question asked to Buckeye Nation about Kosta Koufus.
Meyer had a player at Florida wielding an AK-47 outside of a nightclub...Meyer allowed him to walk back on the team. He benched Cam Newton for stealing a laptop...but actually left Florida because there was suspicion mounting that he was cheating in school. Carlos Dunlap was found passed out drunk behind the wheel in the middle of an intersection. Meyer suspended him for the SEC Championship game, but allowed him to play in the Sugar Bowl.
Please don't start saying you "don't recall" Meyer never having one of these players. That just shows you didn't follow it in the first place. His players got into all sorts of trouble. It was a major concern when he was hired amongst those of us who were aware of this part of his history...it still sort of is, even if it's not talked about much (although, several dismissals and arrests this offseason haven't helped things).
liked, he made my favorite play in buckeye history (strip of sean taylor) in one of the biggest games in buckeye history, he has turned his life around, had he been at ohio st for 3 year for sure heisman and possibly 2nd national championships and we'd be saying he's one of the greatest ever, only what if...
remember seeing him play at warren vs my alma matter canton mckinley and our old coach (tom mcdaniels) was there coach and he ran mo down our throats clearly he was gonna be a stud at the next level

I am in the camp that would rather not have the crystal football than the turmoil and the years of the program being drug through the mud. Andy Geiger resigned over the stress from having the NCAA up our ass for 18 months. We won every game that year, 4-5 of them w/o Mo. I still like our chances vs Miami.
If you read JT's book, he talks about how he tried to rein Mo in and how Mo wasn't getting it. I was done with him after the things he said to ESPN and wasn't all that shocked when he got arrested. Tress being a much better person than me was able to see what good Mo had in him and never gave up. If JT could do that after all the crap he went through, so can I. I wih Mo all the best
I'm all about second chances and feel good stories about guys who have done wrong and found redemption and cleaned their lives up and whatnot. And there is no doubt in my mind that if Maurice had played at least 3 years at OSU he would go down as one of, if not the best running backs in OSU history. But you do remember this is the same guy who did the seemingly unforgiveable and tried to single-handedly bring down the football program. Yes, he was immature and had issues, and in many ways he's paid for his past and seems to have turned things around, but can you forgive him for what he did and tried to do?
@tennbuckeye19 I had no sympathy for Mo and he was persona non grata after all the BS he caused. When he was released from prison and re-enrolled at tOSU with JT's help, I had to soften my stance on him. If the one person whose name and reputation were most affected could move forward, I decided to do the same
Like: while following his prison blog you saw the man shed his demons both physical and mental. Depression, booze and opiates are no joke. Plus, like most yanks; I'm a sucker for a redemption story, plus national champeeeeeenship!
Dude is Scarlet & Gray till he dies, he'll be the first to admit. It's like forgiving your heathen uncle, we're all family in a way. I can also understand the animosity but glass houses, etc, etc...

I liked Mo until he decided to go pro and all that followed. I like many here wish him the best...I just question his decision making.

Liked his on field ability, disliked his off the field issues.
.Pam, it must be lonely in your camp. To give up the crystal ball that we waited 35 years for. Sure, mo did some dastardly deeds in his years in Columbus, but it was well worth the Crystal ball. And lets be honest, clarett was responsible for winning that game. He was just a cog in the season but an indispensableindispensable gamebreaker inagainstMiami. Its amazing how given some distancebetween now and then how many people have softened their stance on him. I guess people really do change.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Pam the one person most affected was the most affected career wise as well. Without Clarett where would JT be. My guess is exactly where he is now but maybe a little earlier. Buckeye fans are more foregiving than I would have imagined. I believe OSU is one of those programs that do not need to cut corners to be successful. In football tradionally its OSU Alabama UM USC Texas and Oklahoma that could and should be great every year. Lately you would add a couple more schools to that list.
Everyone makes mistakes, some bigger than others. It seems like he has cleaned up his life and is on the right track. I wish him well.

i would venture to say that 80% of the people who criticize tressell as a football coach never even played the game. the other 20% obviously must have more than tressell's 5 national championships at the division one level.
why are you even debating who clarett is as a person now that he's left the program? was he a hell of a running back? yeah. would we have gone 11-3 in 2002 without him? at best. is he a convicted felon? sure thing. has he turned his life around? only one person in the world knows. please, please, please: can you all stop being drama queens and quit acting like a 19 year-old kid who let his football team down maliciously and irreparably damaged our lives? jesus. have a little perspective.
it's threads like these that confirm that it's going to be a long, slow month until the start of the season.

Krenzel was the MVP and had more rushing yds. than anyone on both teams combined. No doubt Mo played a huge part in the win, but it was defense that won that game for us. It may be lonely in my camp, but having my alma mater get drug through the mud in way that still exists, I will stay put.
Mo affected JT's career more negatively than positively. As I said, we won games w/o him that season. I believe to this day in our chances against Miami
Pam, we don't win without the strip on Sean Taylor, and I just can't see anybody but Mo making that play. So while it may have been close, I'd bet we lose in regulation and probably not even have been in the championship in the first place
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Mastermind The name tag you give yourself makes you a master in your own mind. Certainly you do not feel you are above others. You sounded more like a drama queen than anyone else yet you call others DQ. I believe this is all relevant and for myself good info came from thread. I did not know beforehand about the espn article coming out. Plus my opinion changed somewhat from some of this info. Your post however provided zero.
I'm sorry but to say Mo was completly responsible for the NC is kind of niave. I seem to recall Krenzel dang near doing all the things that needed to be done to win that game. He's the one who hit Jenkins against Purdue to win that one too. Yes Mo was a pivotal part of the NC but Krenzel's role was much more so.
Idk about anyone else but I'm not saying Mo was solely responsible for te NC run. All I'm saying is he was a pivotal part and I don't think we win the title without him. I dont think we're even in the title game without him. We would still be a good team maybe 11-3 or 12-2 or even 13-1. But I highly doubt we win the title that year without Mo C
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I'm moderately surprised at just how forgiving everyone is. I don't feel strongly about it one way or another but it seems time has healed a lot in this case. I'll be very interested to see if down the line Terrelle Pryor receives the same kind of forgiveness. What was going on with him was arguably much more forgivable than Mo-C as Mo went out of his way to try to get the football program torn down out of spite. Terrelle was just accepting benefits under the table and got caught....but TP never won us a title so it'll be interesting to see how people view him down the line. Again, I don't have strong feelings one way or another on TP. Much like Clarett, was just happy to see him go away.
Also, I'd say guys by the name of Doss, Smith, Gamble, Anderson, Wilhelm, Grant were most responsible for that national championship imo. Not just Mo. Maurice didn't even have a good game in the title game, jus that one play. Krenzel and the D were the reason for the nat'l title win and for most of the success all season. If Clarett was back for his sophomore season, I don't see us losing a game again. Our defense was even better and Krenzel was even a little better. We returned most everyone from that nat'l title team.
I don't see TP getting back into good graces any time soon. The rumor I've been hearing is that the NCAA was done investigating without much, Pryor was not getting into the supplimental draft, so Pryor gave them the summer job scandal. Granted it's a rumor, but selling your team out and getting your HC fired seems a bit worse. If anyone knows if this is fact or crap, please chime in.
I don't see how that would be a plea deal with the NCAA to roll over on teammates to get into the supplemental draft. The eligibility for drafts is determined by the NFL...or at least that's the impression I've always been under. It was between Pryor, Ohio State and Roger Goodell. The NCAA would have no grounds to offer a plea deal to Pryor as there was no way of punishing him at all.
There is absolutely no doubt that we wouldn't have even made it to the NC if not for Mo. And had he come back for his sophmore year, they may have went to another NC. Just look at how they did that second year. They only lost the one game during the regular season.
waycraken- yes, i do, and you confirmed for me that yes, i am. for future reference: do not call somebody else out when you're bringing a sling-shot to a battle of intelligence featuring some higher-powered machinery.
also, bang up opening line in that post; surely you can't be a wal-mart buckeye with searing wit like that.
as for clarett, kid was the best player in college football that year, and he also was a thug. 9 years later, he still was the best player in college football that year, and he still was a thug. 100 years from now, he still was the best player in college football that year, and he still was a thug.
today, what maurice clarett is doing with his life checks in on my list of curiosities right between "does bieber use pantene pro-v?" and "why the !@#$ does crayola have so many different colors?" the crayola question is the higher of the 2; i mean, 256, are you @#$%ing kidding me?
prominently-displayed on my list, however, is figuring out how you, waycraken, managed to buy a computer in such a bad economy. perhaps the glass is not half-empty after all.

loves me some episode 3. plus, i like the end when padme has to be a single mother. it's so mtv. score one for lucas. but i also like to imagine that she's done with jedi and just wants a nice accountant to love. i'll take care of you, senator.
the best part, though, would be that i could make the recruit pitches all by myself.
i'll give you a prime rib piece of advertising right here: "hello, 18 year old menchilds. if you can run the 40 in less time than a chipotle burrito takes to make a round-trip through my digestive canal, we want you'ns. you see, there are only two types of teams in this here establishment of football clubs: those that can't, and us. the best part about being us, is that you're not them. you don't wanna be them. them is like being the last guy of the day to get a free flu shot at k- mart: maybe you get a clean needle, or maybe bertha gives you a little dose of that die slow. full disclosure, if your last name rhymes with rigatoni, we don't want you. god made notre dame for 1 reason: the world is easier to manage if all the cheese puffs are in indiana. so, sign your hancock on that line, son. don't forget our fax number, and i'll see you when practice starts in august and we start making plans to pound all of those total douglasses back to 2nd grade arts and crafts. now, let me paraphrase mike mcqueary and remind you that ohio state is one of only 120 division 1 institutions to never be investigated for being pederasts. you're welcome."

I give it to you. You do have a wit. I got a chuckle from your comments. I have shopped Wal Mart. I do own a lap top but for much surprise to you i use my I phone for most posts. As far as my earnings and what I may or may not be able to afford I will only tell you I try to do my best and I share what I have. Im looking forward to your next post but just a hint your funny without the swearing.
lol. i never meant to offend you. just joking around on the innerwebz. sorry if i came off harsh.

I'm glad for Clarett. It was sad to see so much talent go to waste, but he has turned things around, and his life will not go to waste. One of the bigger keys to the national championship run in 2002. I still have my #13 jersey that I wore that magical night. I let my wife wear it since it's a bit too tight on me.
Class of 2010.
Liked him in 2002 - like him now. I guess thats all that matters to me now.
