Does this bowl ban become pointless? As it stood before the sanctions for PSU --- they were a mediocre team. Now, with an impending mass exodus of transfers & scholly reductions...I would be suprised if they even qualify for a bowl in the next few seasons? Does that mean this bowl ban carries over to the next year they are eligible, or does it just become a moot point? (I, for one, think it should carry over. This is different from any other NCAA scandal. The bowl ban doesn't go far enough. I would have rather seen a program ban for a few years.)

good point, BuckGuy, I wouldn't think...I just thought that these cover-ups were so horrific --- they should be guaranteed to miss a few games. That's why I was in favor of having the PSU program sit it out a season or two; something more tangible that sends a strong message.

One of the main reasons it wouldn't carry over is it might become indefinite. Think chicken-egg situation. The can't get good teams to qualify for a bowl game because the ban prevents them from recruiting good players.

I think the it is not a moot point at all, KNOWING you wont be in a bowl game over the next 4 years obviously takes away any HOPE or idea of potentially making it...its going to be very difficult to convince kids that playing hard is more of a prize than playing in the post season

I've also openly admitted(and at times apologized for)that my tone comes across more harsh than I actually intend...which is why I immediately took down my original response. You can pick and choose what posts you want to judge me on but I've seen you get just as worked up when you don't agree with others opinions.
ohhhh Jay Paterno --- if I'm a PSU fan, I wish he would just be quiet & quit living in denial. I still can't believe him & the rest of the Paternos are questioning the validity of the Freeh Report, as if Freeh had a bone to pick with PSU. PSU hired Free to do the report, and after, they accepted his findings. That pretty much says it all.
As for the last part of the penalties which Emmert pointed out - about reserving the right to punish individuals. I hope that this means he is leaving room for the NCAA to ban people like Tom Bradley from coaching. I think they should also ban Larry Johnson, Sr.. There is no way in hell these guys didn't know about the Sandusky incidents, and they did nothing about it - then lied & said the didn't know anything about the incidents.

@ SCHOOEY -- know what how....what are you referring to ? Bradley & Johnson. Come on man - there were both PSU-lifers, who worked side-by-side with 'dusky for decades. Coaches are together for hours upon hours each day. They get to knew each other well. Nothing is really off-limits between coaches. They know each other's families, activities, etc.. It's State College - the place revolves around one thing: Penn State Football. On top of that, McQueary told a lot of people about what he saw. How in the hell would they NOT know?
