Not sure what is going on with this, but he updated his twitter saying he committed but I have never heard of him before and I dont think he has an offer from OSU...

He's been saying that for a while but there has never been any confirmation. Could be a preferred walk-on, I suppose.
We had a thread about this a month or two ago. From all I've heard, Gardner is just making up this story about OSU.
EDIT: When the Gardner story originally broke, he was on Twitter, now I can't find his account. Something is a little fishy.

Though it does seem fishy again it looks like its the real deal this time
Wiltfong at TOS reporting this now. I'll wait for the 11w gray box.
per 247sports: He commited.

It's also all over twitter
This guy is HUGE. He will definitely fill some space on the OL
i too will wait for the gray box, but 247 seems convinced:

This is his twitter btw: https://twitter.com/#!/Oct_s_veryown
Alex just confirmed it on twitter. Gray box to come shortly...
Scout still has him offered by Purdue, Indiana and Louisville still. Odd.

If Mike Mitchell commits tonight, it would be a great weekend for #BUCKEYENATION
It's legit and confirmed by several sites, him, and his coach.
GABuck: Thanks for the Twitter link.

Road grater special. Nasty Nasty Nasty. 6'5" 320lbs going to smash you into the ground and keep you there.
Hmmmm. How many people saw this coming? Looks like it's time people just stop trying to figure out how this class will finish up?
I have to say it... But Urban put our money where his mouth is. I have to assume by extending a schollie to Gardner that he's not going to pursue (or didn't want to pursue) Dorian Johnson after the Penn State deal went down, and he said he had a problem with going after those guys. Congrats to Tim though, he wanted to be a Buckeye and worked for it, those are the kids we want!
Johnson is not a PSU student athlete. We already know Urban's position on recruiting committed prospects (cf. Cam Williams, Tommy Schutt, Kyle Dodson etc).

I realize his position on commits, but perhaps the staff had either spoken w/ D.J. about switching (considering he had reaffirmed his commitment to PSU) or decided with a limited scholarship picture they would pick up a player with size they could mold into their type of player.
Gardner has great size and nasty streak but that looks like that is all he's got. I'm not bagging on the kid but it seems like he is a project and might be a good signing if we had 30 scholarships. Kinda surprised that Urban has gotten verbals from 3-4 kids that would seem to most to be project type players ( Sprinkle, Lee, Gardner, Jacobs). I know they all could be diamonds in the rough but with limited scholarships I'm surprised or maybe Urban knows we are loosing out on all the other top guys on the list and wants to get the 3rd or 4th choice instead of nothing?
Urban Meyer accepted his commitment. Works for me. When all is said and done, I think we already have three five star(for all you obsessed with how many stars do they have!)recruits comitted-add Bosa and Woodard and possibly a fourth in Marshal. Elliott is going to be a stud. The Class as a whole is probably going to wind up as one of the best we've seen in the last ten years.
People get too hung up on ratings. Go back and look at our 07 class compared to the 08 class.
Never saw that one coming.
Trust in the staff and enjoy the ride

If no recruits were projects, then redshirts wouldn't exist. I know what you mean here by "projects" but no guys are gonna be fully college ready when they show up on campus. But let's look at what you're calling projects:
1. Sprinkle: A mid to high 3-star on most sites, I think we're just spoiled with the quality of the rest of the class on this one. He has great potential, and is hardly lost out there with the big boys.
2. Lee: A gifted athlete will truly unique athletic gifts. Only reason he seems like a project is because he doesn't have a concrete position yet. He will pick up the nuances of his spot just like every other recruit that comes into offseason camp.
3. Jacobs: Faster than the competition, with experience at his position, and above average route running ability. He is just a bit undersized, like many high school kids. No more a project than most DBs/WRs that show up.
4. Gardner: Most likely underrated because his size has only recently made him a D1 option. He lost a lot of bad weight, which not only explains why he's just recently burst onto the scene, but he's shown the dedication to get himself into better shape.
But, all that being said, I don't claim to know any more than you about these prospects. I just think we should collectively trust a proven staff to make the right decisions for the future.
Buck-I.8 - I tend to agree with you on the assessment & the overall point. Until Urban Meyer starts losing games on a regular basis - I won't be questioning too many of his recruiting decisions.

I think if Mr.Gardner is able to enroll early, and take part in off season workouts, and get on the nutrition plan, he drops probably another 15-20lbs + top flight OL coaching I think in year 1 he looks like a different player. He is pretty mobile, and has great size. I think this is a decent pick-up. Then if he was working with LaCharles, and Pace, I'm sure they gave Urban their blessing on him as well. So thats possibly the best coach in the NCAA, the best, and 1 of the best linemen to ever play at OSU signing off on the kid he has to be a player.
No offense to anybody....but I truly dont think any of us can evaluate talent as well as Urban Meyer, otherwise we'd be down in Columbus evaluating talent. Go Bucks!!!!!!!
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Camped twice and lost the weight between camps. Earned his offer. I'm excited he is a Buckeye.
Tim really WANTED to be a Buckeye. So much so he worked very hard at it. I'll take a kid like that any day.
Can't find any film on him. Can anybody help?

i trust the staff completely, my main reasoning is this, while urban was at bgsu and utah he still won consistantly. While at a bgsu or utah i cant imagine you get anything higher than a 3 star recruit. Hes proven countless times hes a winner and will continue to do so at tosu...
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
FWIW, I talked to Munger on Saturday and he said that Tim Gardner was the best OL he faced at FNL in the one on ones.
Better to take someone like Gardner who lost weight and earned his offer (wants to be a Buckeye) then waste time on someone like Logan Tulley-Tillman (burned his OSU letter, strapped on the feed bag after he verbally committed to the Wolverines). LTT may end up a star so I'll eat crow if he does, but Gardner put work in for this offer. I know some of us (myself included) might be puzzled at taking his commitment because he has less than 4 stars but you have to appreciate a guy that's willing to work for a Buckeye offer. Worst case scenario? He provides much-needed depth at the position. Here's to hoping he becomes a great lineman at tOSU!
Champions Bleed Scarlet & Gray
Agree with Buck-I.8 SPOT ON.
orlando pace liked gardner too?
I'm no expert but it looks to me like Gardner could play OT with a bit of conditioning and coaching. I hope he can come in early and get some Spring work done.
