Gotta be a rough time for all these recruits. I hope they each find their way, whether it's sticking at Penn State or going elsewhere.

No way he sticks, but I doubt OSU will take him.
URBZ I really think OSU would take him...he is a prospect you don't say no to
Very classy from the family. Gotta feel for the kids, wanting to go to their dream school but can't compete in a bowl game or for conference titles during that time while playing with a bunch of walk-ons.
I doubt we go after him though. Not enough scholarships. 2 TEs would have been a luxury in this class, not a neccessity.
Someone else will get a great one though.
EDIT: Alex knows more than me, so maybe we do take him if he wants in.
I truely feel bad for him, it's obvious that he grew up with the dream of playing for psu and now it'll be tough to do that.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I just think taking Hill and a punter Townsend were luxurious afforded by not taking a second TE. It could happen, I want it to happen, I just don't think it will happen lol.
we would have taken Heuerman....I know space is tight right now but this is the #1 TE in the nation
Mr.Brenerman is a FANTASTIC prospect, IMO better then O.J Howard, J.McNeil, and Mr.Baugh dude looks like a better Stoneburner, he runs GREAT routes already, and has great hands. I don't think we'd turn him away, the only thing is he messed up his knee. So Alex I think Adam had OSU as his #2, if he de-commits is it just a formality before he commits to us?
Not sure BuckinBama.....really have to see how this plays out...you can bet Urban is doing what he has to though
He's a great prospect, I guess we'll see. It's a while till NSD
This kid's a class act. Long time Penn State fan, seems like he's the leader of the class. Even on BSD they were saying they couldn't blame him for leaving.
The kid must be torn right now. He still can play for his childhood team but he knows he'll never have a chance to play in a bowl or even be on a .500 team.
Adam is the type of kid you need in your program. Its easy to tell he is of GREAT character! At the end of the day I think logic wins out its different not being about to play in a bowl game 1 or 2 years, but your entire college career, I don't think he goes for that. I think OSU has a decent shot at him.
The NCAA is still deliberating on waiving the scholarship limit towards schools that accept former PSU commits. If that goes through, does it apply to a school like OSU that alreadu has ongoing scholarship reduction?
Sucks for him... Wish him the best.
does anybody think this kid tearing up his knee affects whether Coach Meyer would considering taking him, (assuming he wanted to go to tOSU)?
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
If the rule is implemented as stated, then OSU can partake as well, but they have to give up one incoming and one from total next year.
Dorian Johnson and Breneman are the only ones I think OSU looks at and probably would take both if they wanted in... I imagine Johnson to bail on PSU within the next 24 hours, and Breneman to follow within the next couple days... If Breneman does go, I keep hearing that he is the linchpin and if he goes, so do many others, be interesting if they even end up with 10 decent players in this class after all is said and done for 2013
According to ESPN, Brenneman has stated that he is still 100% committed to Penn St. and Bill O'Brien.
but what if bill o brien bails
Hardly home but always reppin
WEIMERAD that article was from yesterday...they are trying to play it off as today
Interesting, thanks Alex.
+ 1 / what Alex said ... those quotes were from last weeky by Breneman. They may have just been intended for the time being, I'd be surprised if he didn't think at least a few years of bowl bans were coming. But, all in all, Breneman seems like a solid kid on top of being a great prospect. I feel bad for a kid like that, who probably grew up being a big-time PSU fan. I compare him to a kid growing up somewhere outside of Columbus and looking up to OSU his whole life. Can't blame him. And, he is the # 1 TE prospect in the country, I agree that you don't turn that caliber of recruit down...despite the injury, too.
hearing maybe Maryland for Breneman if he ditches PSU....that's the word I am getting for now but we shall see
Maryland seems like maybe a bit of an odd choice, kid could probably go anywhere they arent full at te
Alex, obviously I think Urban listens to players if they are interested, but do you think maybe Urban and staff tend to keep their distance with Breneman and Johnson?
These were guys we went hard after and committed elsewhere, they are only re-opening their commitment because of these sanctions, if we begin recruiting them again what does it tell our remaining targets.
One player I have always had questions about, even though he has affirmed his commitment many times, is Marcus Baugh. I feel like if we even begin to chase Breneman, Baugh withdraws his commitment and looks at other schools?
I diasgree. Even after Baugh's commitment OSU was still pursuing Heuerman and McNeil. The initial plan was for 2 TE's in this class.
What did Breneman do to his knee? Was it a minor injury or a ACL tear?
ACL out for his senior season, but people seem to think he'll recover more or less fully.
Thanks for the info
word is OSU not pursuing Breneman right now and other big time schools of the like may not either if they have TEs and are tentative about his knee (torn ACL).....
As for Johnson...game on and that is a fact.....we will go after him hard
Carolina- as far as staying away, should we have done the same with Cam Williams, Tommy Schutt, and Armani Reeves? We were after Dorian Johnson for a while before he committed so it tells our remaining targets nothing other than to jump on board sooner
Pursuit of Mcneil had cooled tremendously after Baugh Committ. IMHO Baugh is as good as any of them. Big, Physical, with great hands. I would be happy with one.
Bucks4Real - That's not completely true. It was an on and off, warming and cooling for a while. Even after Heuerman said no there were still rumors that McNeil could be a Buckeye until he came out and said he thought he was going to be a Buckeye, but that he no longer felt welcome. Regardless, the point is that a 2nd TE was still being pursued.
man i reallllly hope dorian johnson comes on board...he is the lean, athletic type our offensive line needs for the spread
Johnson would be an awesome get...lets see
This day, and age a knee injury just isn't what it use to be. A lot of players are coming back from knee injuries now, so I say if we feel he can help us bring him on, and redshirt him. We need D.Johnson BAD, I think he would fit perfectly in this offense really hope he can be reeled in!
@Alex...I think the situations of recruiting other players last year is a bit different than players this year.
Last year, we were in a position where B1G programs (well just about everyone) were throwing mud at us anyway they could. Really, our class was less than stellar and Urban didn't have a chance to really recruit the way he recruits.
So he did whatever he could, a lot of the guys like you mentioned (Cam and Armani) were much higher rated than some of the guys Fickell had locked up. Urban was in a scramble to fill the class with quality players and had to capitalize on the situation. Also, when Urban had a chance to call Armani and Cam that was the first chance he had to recruit those guys.
This time around, we have a stellar class. Sure we need Johnson bad but our class is in great shape. We recruited Breneman and Johnson pretty hard and they chose to commit elsewhere.
Very valid points about recruiting a second TE after Baugh committed but I just feel the two situations are vastly different.
Maybe last year we were the have nots and we needed to make up ground quickly by any means possible. This year we are the haves and the two guys we could take had a chance to commit to us and said no thanks.
I definitely still would like both of the guys, but I don't want to jeopardize any of the commits we currently have (not saying that is going to be the case)
looks like Breneman is staying at PSU .... (for now) ...
"Although I am still processing and discussing the impact of today's announcements with my family and coaches, I did speak with Coach O'Brien and his staff and I remain committed to Penn State."
You gotta admire both player & coach here if he stays. This is a serious penalty they got - You would think players with a really bright future would jump ship & with good cause. If this coach is able to keep even just a few good recruits in this situation - that's an accomplishment. As for Breneman - he's a better man than me. I'd would have been out of there yesterday.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
a kid like this has to have his sights on going pro. so it would stand to reason that whatever he decides to do will be what he thinks gives him the best opprotunity to pursue that. is it playing for a former nfl coach in a pro style offense? or for one of the best college coaches in the nation in a spread? for a team that probably wont crack 500 the whole time hes there? or a team that will be in the national spotlight for 3 of the 4 years hes there? i obviously only compared psu and osu there but id think hell decide on whatever he thinks will get him ready for the next level.
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
I don't think the coach is going anywhere because he has to pay back his base salary of 950k for each year left on his contract if he leaves so now he can basically get paid real well for no expectations. I think the players will leave becasue they want to compete at a higher level than what Penn State will be able to provide.
I wasn't sure what he did to his knee...if it's a torn ACL, then he's not the #1 TE anymore (not being mean btw, a torn ACL is not easy to come back from sometimes). Pass IMO...damaged goods and we have good TEs.

Bill O'Brien might be able to prepare Breneman for the pros but it'll be awfully hard to prepare him with a lack of talent at other positions. You need a decent offensive line, quarterback, and other skill positions to effective run an offense. I don't see Johnson, Hackenberg and others sticking around.
definetly what i was thinking jmo..reguardless of how talented any of these psu commits for the next few years may be individually.. it will be incredibly difficult to actually progress as a player on a team that will more than likely be at best somewhere between really bad and awful
I think Urban wins the NFL prep category over OBrien...Jesse Palmer was saying OBrien can show a player like Breneman a picture of Aaron Hernandez... well Meyer put Hernandez there, OBrien just gave him a route to run... NFL prep... Meyer > OBrien, as of right now
If I were UFM I would tell these kids sorry, you had your chance to join this team and chose to go else where, we have guys who want to be a Buckeye and now you are on the outside looking in on what you could have been a part of..a team destined to win a national championship...but thats just me..
^^Pretty spiteful no?
If we dont grab a top tackle sometime soon, both teams will be watching that title games on TV in the future, so I'll say for one that DJ gets a spot no matter what
@BUCK-I.8 - That may have been the case had we not grabbed Decker and Dodson last year. Decker is going to be a star at OSU and Dodson has some great potential as well. In the 2013 class, Lisle is a very good one and I expect they are trying to add another tackle like DJ or Finley to finish off the class. That will be PLENTY of depth at tackle for a two year stretch IMO.
I mean, I think when we're at a point where Mewhort is unproven, Decker and Dodson haven't touched the field during a game yet, and Lisle is a senior in HS, so we have the numbers, but not the depth, per say.
At LB, we have plenty of bodies when you include walk-ons, but you wouldn't say we're deep at that position. That's my point, and because of it, I don't think there's way you can turn down a top two tackle
I don't think well ever get to a point to turn down a top two tackle, but oh baby if we ever do!
