I can't believe people actually thought that penn state would walk away frOm this with no penalty. We got a bowl ban for our players selling there own gear and tress was fired bc he knew. Up at penn st we are talking about Child molestation that was covered up. I don't wish this on any program god bless the victims but I also feel horrible for the penn state recruits/players but more importantly the fans. If this was happening at TOSU it would ruin my "sports life" and I feel for the fans.
@ Blaze -- The only reason I would like to see any kind of death penalty type of punishment is mostly for the fans. Those involved in this directly are either in prison, going to prison, or in the ground. The fans/supporters who helped build this unstoppable force that was the JoePa/football program do have a hand in the culture at the university as well. They still to this day are not accepting the magnitude of the situation and are still paying worship to their false idols, Paterno and the program. I don't want further sanctions to hurt the institution but rather be used to help get those who are blindly supporting Joe and the program to the death to get their feet back on the ground and restore some perspective in their lives on the true gravity of this situation and what has happened.
Honestly if the sentiment coming out of the PSU supporters camp was one of remorse, sorrow, acceptance I wouldn't want any additional penalties. It's the fact that they're defiant, defensive, and seemingly oblivious to the gravity of what happened there. If they weren't defending Joe and the program to the death I wouldn't say they need to restore perspective on the matter and in their lives. Maybe it's only the vocal minority that's being heard all the way over in here Columbus...but I haven't seen/heard of anything out of PSU supporters that really indicates that they as a majority really "get it".
Bolt well said I do agree the one thing I learned from our situation with tress is that NO ONE MAN IS BIGGER THAN THE PROGRAM and to the psu fans trying to defend this shame on you
as far as the bowl bans go, PSU as it stands now is a mediocre-at-best team, add in the transfers & (assumed impending) heavy scholly reductions...who is to say they will even make a bowl the next 3-5 years, so this becomes a moot point. A real tangible penalty that makes more sense is to shut this program down, it sends the clear message that it is not "business as usual".
Additionally, there will be more to come out about this scandal/cover-up. It will get a lot worse before it gets better, which is another reason Emmert should rule on the side of shutting the program down. He may regret not doing this once he hears more PSU bombshells.
I really hope the PSU fans are just in the denial part of the grieving process and will eventually come to accept the facts and the gravity of the situation.
As of yesterday I didn't think much would happen...after reading this...I'm not so sure. I'm not sure what NCAA views as "unprecedented" but I guess we'll see...(I'd say 3 years bowl ban and 25 scholarships...but who really knows...)???
Sounds like NCAA may be going after them with A LOT more than I anticipated. I've already saw the Emmert PBS thing, but the rest about what will be "possibly" handed down tomorrow morning is going to be interesting...to say the least. I'm not as big on us getting flipped recruits from this bc of all facts that has come out about J.S. and the victims. But hey, their loss is our gain I suppose. Not sure who will chose OSU, Dorian Johnson is interested in Pitt but you never know what Urban and staff have up their sleves. Should be an interesting week...I'd be REAL surprised if any recruits stay loyal to O'Brien and his new staff with what may come down.
Love Bolts points too BTW...that's what bothers me the most...and I unfortunately don't think it's part of the grieving process...Frano Harris is just as brain washed as they are. I know you get "serious" feeling toward your HC of any sport. But this cover up by PSU and Joe's coaches was the worst thing in Sports History IMHO. You can't defend the good when the bad outweights that loyalty. Just shows the culture created there in HV.

Per espn- a source says penn state will not recieve the "death penalty". But that the punishment is severe enough that the "death penalty" wouldve been preferable. Thats huge
Blue-White Illustrated's message boards are in full denial/meltdown mode right now. They still claim that there's no evidence and that this entire thing is just the NCAA looking to throw their weight around.
It's laughable at best.
Prediction: 5-year bowl ban, 15 scholarships per year gone, and five years probation, if not longer.
ESPN even hinted at the possibility of a TV ban, which would be insane to think about...and would ultimately destroy Penn State.
Any word on the truth as to whether or not Delany called for a vote to boot out Penn State?
Can't really offer a prediction because the NCAA is so inconsistent when punishing institutions. It's very dependent upon who you are it seems.
The penalty would have to be over-the-top severe to say that the death penalty would be preferable as has been reported...I mean ~14 year bowl ban, ~14 year probation, only permitted to have 40 on scholarship every year for the next 14 years, etc. And I just don't think the NCAA has the nutsack to do that. It'll be very interesting tomorrow, that's for sure. Hope I am wrong and they bring Thor's hammer down on PSU.
Wow I just checked out Black Shoe Diaries, the PSU blog, and it's astounding. They truly think that this is all some sort of setup and that their beloved JoePa was incapable of doing any wrong. They keep referring to the Freeh report as a biased report. Their school's board of trustees are the ones that hired him!! If anything he'd be biased FOR Penn State, since they have employed him and paid all sorts of money for the report. They refer to us outsiders as "The Mob" and that we keep bullying them behind this overbeaten ideology of "It's what's right for those kids!" and they have disdain for that. This is really, really sad.
This morning when they were taking down the statue I was reading about it on the Espn site and there was a direct quote which read "If PSU gets the death Penalty,, those so called victims better watch their backs Some people will go after them.” I could not believe what I was reading.
I'm now of the belief that they need harsh sanctions because the garbage that they are don't even deserve football to make them happy. I assure you these were probably all of the same total idiots that were calling for OSU to get the death penalty over Tat-gate.
This like President Clinton wanting "is" defined. What does unprecedented really mean to the NCAA?
The only precedence we've observed with the NCAA is that it operates completely free of precedence.

Joking, but I don't feel bad. They had to know SOMETHING was coming. They took a chance and it didn't work out.
Feel bad for the vicims that will still have to cope and try to live a normal life after the media leaves town to chase the next "sexy" news story.
There are winners and there are losers, and then there are "THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY"

@ TASRA
Exactly the point the Freeh report made I think with regard to the nasty Penn State fanbase mentality.
Hope they get blasted back to the stone age.
