They should be sanctioned by the NCAA. Penn St received a competitive advantage by NOT DISCLOSING the charges. If they disclosed the charges in 2001 or so...Joe Pa would have been gone....it would have hurt recruiting. Since they hid the facts....every year that they didn't report the facts they retained a competitive advantage.
This is just priceless. I see what he is trying to say. Don't get me wrong-he's wrong. What he's trying to do is make the Penn State and OSU things Oil and Water=which they are. Now of course, he goes about it all wrong (and in perfect Bristol form, FWIW) by assuming that actually happened. Like Pryor talked to dudes and said "Ya you get hooked up here kid, sell your stuff and its all good". Then again why formulate a logical argument when you can pander to the lowest common denominator of sports fan by saying stupid stuff.
With that, I'm going to watch Mark Cuban take his lunch money again....
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
So Tressel promised recruits that they'll be hooked up to sell their jerseys? Man, this is major news. Why haven't I heard this before. A one season bowl-ban isn't enough for this.
Damn idiot - players took it upon themselves to sell *their own* stuff. Oh well, you can't fix stupid.
This is the problem with shows like around the horn, pardon the interruption, first take etc. The people on these shows were once journalists . Now, unfortunately, they are "news makers". Trying to be the story rather than report the story. The wwl has become the wwe and my guess is that the ratings are similar for both: high.
He absolutley tatoos Bayless. I don't have Youtube access here at work so I can't find the link. It was linked on the site a while back and he goes on to talk circles around Bayless about basketball strategy. I actually applaud Cuban for knowing a lot more about X's and O's hoops than a team owner really should have to. He (an owner) probably shouldn't know more than an 'analyst' that gets paid 7 figures to talk about the sport but its clear in the video Cuban is vastly superior in Bucketology.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I hate Skip Bayless! Jay Mohr was just on the radio saying pretty much what an ass he is for the Ohio State deserves it crap. As a matter of fact I think he refered to him as Skip Mindless or something of the sort.

He thinks NCAA only cares about competitive advantage - WRONG!
He thinks this whole coverup wasn't a competitive advantage for Penn State - WRONG! - it is an intangible, possibly indirect advantage (compared to OSU playing ineligible players - that is a direct advantage), but with the impacts on recruiting, perception, and Joe Pa being fired - PSU football would've been worse off at least temporarily if they had come clean earlier. It was an advantage.
He thinks OSU tried to recruit kids by telling them that they could sell their stuff for money - WRONG! - *sigh*...what proof does he have of this? Why would that necessarily be an advantage? I'd want to keep my shit - I wouldn't want to sell it off. I imagine many kids feel the same. If I wanted to sell my shit, why couldn't I do that at PSU or Michigan or Alabama or anywhere else?
@ show - you are assuming that Paterno would have been fired had this been handled properly from the beginning...ie turning in Sandusky immediately, thus no cover-up. While the pristine image of PSU would have suffered, there would be no reason at all to get rid of Paterno. What would he have been guilty of?
i visited espn once a few years back...i was actually on espn's first take...anyway...i met skip bayliss in the bathroom, i had just taken a big dump next to him, it stunk bad...tru story bro
I just hope that most people realize he's just filling time and trying to stir up things to get veiwers.. Just turn the channel and be done with the guy..
Look, there are two kinds of people in the world; Those whose opinions matter to you, and those whose opinions do not matter to you. Once you've figured out somebody is in the second category, there isn't any reason to pay the slightest attention to anything they say.
Brewster - I agree. I was just curious to see what he makes (or what the Internet says he makes). Didn't mean to make it sound like I was correcting you or anything with my post.
The sad part is that he has made First Take must see TV for many people because they know they can count on him for saying something outrageous, so ESPN might feel he's worth every penny.
I definatley didn't take it that way. I guess your truth is better than my assumption. I guess I'm just jealous someone can be so bad at their job and make that kind of scratch. I read his columns when he was a writer for the Chicago Tribune and in case you were wondering, he sucked just as much back then as he does now, at least back then I didn't have to hear his weasely, whiney voice. God I'd love to muay thai knee that dude's face.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
When First Take was changed into the Loudmouth vs. Skip Bayless show, I stopped watching. The First and Ten desk used to be fun, because it was limited and that limitation allowed for a large variety of topics. Now, it's all Lebron, Tebow, Bellicheck, and Yankees...almost none of which has anything to do with the actual sports that are played.
The fact is, trying to preserve the reputation of the football program WAS a COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE. They were able to recruit athletes based on the fact that if you ever get into trouble while at PSU you can be sure that it will never make headlines. We now know that is the "Penn State Way" that they talk about. Everything is handled internally and is very hush-hush if it pertains to football. As a football player, you will receive special treatment because Joe Paterno will do everything in his power to make sure you play football and will never get suspended.
Joe Paterno was able to use his fake "holier than thou" aura to attract talent, and convince parents that Penn State was the best place for their child. They won B1G titles in 2005 and 2008, and were on pace to win the B1G last year before all this sh*t hit the fan.
To say that Penn State did not retain a competitive advantage by keeping the Sandusky affair under wraps is dead f*ck ludicrous.
He took it one step further and lied... go figure. He said that OSU promised recruits during recruiting they would be hooked up by selling memoribilia. That is no where in any documentation and is a flat out lie...
Blogging -I'm not wasting my life on these boards. I am practicing to make 500K a year with ESPN. Refining the arts of the Troll. Say things to piss people off and get paid. Who is worse? Bayless or May?
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Wow, really gave us the old Rock and a Hard place on that one...or I guess the "Annoying Weasel and Overweight 90's sitcom star" is more appropriate. Of the two of them, I'll take May. He is by far the bigger idiot but at least sticks to one sport. I guess I'd rather have one guy talk foolishly about just one sport than a guy who sprays to all fields.
I guess....man, that's a real shitty choice.
Irricoir-Also, brush up on your 'hard hitting quetion skills'. ESPN's formula is pretty easy to follow.
1) Find prominent Athlete
2) Observe his skin color
3) Ask what if said athlete was another skin color to show how edgy and progressive you are.
4) Profit

Well.....seems to me that the NCAA president doesn't necessarily agree with Bayless....it is a football issue and more......http://youtu.be/WTBGHr9a9nc
He is a clown that just says things to get a reaction. He wants people to hate his opinions!! Its good for business.
shock-joke as opposed to shock jock

I'm just surprised he didn't work anything about Tebow into that tweet.
Skip is a Clown I don't believe he believes half the stuff he says. His opinions and quotes belong in the WWE Acting at its worst.
Hardly home but always reppin

3 strikes and you're OUT...what a joker...lol
Class of 2010.
Please tell me Skip Bayless does not make 7 figures @Brewster. Seriously, that makes me want to move to another country.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
FWIW: A quick Google search showed that Bayless makes 500K a year.

Tenn,
I'll be honest, I just assumed it was 7 based on the fact that it is ESPN. 500K doesn't do much to make me feel better.

At least we know now why Bayless comes across as ridiculous as possible. 500,000 reasons every year. Stupidity sells
