PSU sent back to the Ice Ages!

Lets be realistic here, PSU Football got the death penalty from the NCAA. This punishment will make them irrelevant for 6-10 years (maybe more) They will be playing walk-on's and pretty much anyone who can suit up for the next several seasons. I'd bet that 70% or more current players and recruits are elsewhere by the end of the month. They will be fielding a team for the next 4-6 seasons that would have trouble winning 2 or 3 games in the MAC conference let alone the B1G. I would also assume that most of the staff will be elsewhere too. It is debatable if this punishment is fair but one thing is for sure and that is that PSU Football will suuuuck for awhile! While the punishment may or may not be justified this will cripple the B1G and the national image for years to come.

Strictly looking at football, right off the bat I guessed that Penn State may be able to stave off some shortcomings this year and be competitive, but next year should be when the real depression hits on the competitive side. Right when it happened, I said to myself: "This screws PSU for 15 years." I am sticking by my guns and guessing that.

I don't think it will be that bad. The staff isn't going anywhere. O'Brien isn't for sure, since has no out clause. For the rest, why leave a good paying job when there is no pressure to win for at least the next five years?

I also think you are way overestimating how many players will transfer. I would bet that very few upperclassman will transfer, and even the underclassman exodus will not be that extensive. College football teams are families. The only time they leave in mass is when they are close to an exiting coach and he cleans house like he was divorced (think of the transition of Carr to Rodriguez). All these PSU players think it is "us against the world" (remember they're 18-22 years old). Sadly, at least in my opinion, they don't see that they were lied to and betrayed by Paterno, McQueary, and possibly others. Even if they do, maybe they've already bought into the coach.

My guess is there will be very little impact on their season this year, except the bowl ban. Next year, mostly the same except maybe they lose one extra game IF they get hit by the injury bug. The third year they will start to show some small cracks because of lack of depth and not as much fresh, young talent. Then they'll have 2-3 rough years, maybe even sub .500 seasons. After that, they'll improve each year. I wouldn't be surprised if they made it to a bowl the year or two after the ban is over.

Look at how USC bounced back in no time flat.

We will see ^^^^ but what recruit in there right mind would want to go spend 2-3-4 years with no bowl game or chance to win National Title? I see alot of 2013 going elsewhere and forget about a decent 2014, 15, 16 class.

Penn State is nowhere close to USC so don't even compare the 2...

Differences between USC and PSU:

-4 year bowl ban compared to only 2

-USC is in talent rich California and the only team west of Texas not counting Oregon compared to Penn State having to compete with OSU, Michigan, ND, Va Tech and even Pitt to an extent for their in-state recruits.

-Sexual molestation compared to extra benefits

-Limited scholarships - depth on team will be huge factor

-USC was already a national power threatening for National Titles year in, year out; PSU is barely threatening for BIG titles

I imagine that Penn State will be alright this year but bad in 2013-2015. Their poor on the field performance combined with the black eye hanging over the program will make it a tough sell for future recruits.

There is no way they bounce back as well as USC, if at all.
