Penn State Sanctions

Just curious as to what penalties the NCAA will levy on Penn State. Everything i have heard states that it is significant. I would estimate it would be a 4 year bowl ban, 4 year no scholarships (or maybe very simple, like 5 allowed scholarhips over 4 years). That would allow for football to still be played, but the loss of scholarships would be huge. Thats almost on par with the death penalty, but doesn't hurt the rest of the B1G.

Very curious what they will end up being but I dont think it will be the death penelty. Have to think they are announcing them so soon because the timing of it will allow current players the opportunity  to transfer and try to play for teams this year.

A fun thread would be predicting who goes where if players can transfer without penalty.

Matt McGloin stays in State College because not even the MAC wants a shitty QB.

If a TV ban is imposed, what will that mean for Ohio State fans when they play Penn State? Will I have to travel to State College to watch my Buckeyes?

FROMTHE18 on 22 Jul 2012 - 10:45am #

you would, or you could listen on the radio...I think 4 year bowl ban, or worse would be better, maybe removal of the program for a year then add 3 year bowl ban... something significant that doesnt hurt other fans

I think anything less than the program shutting down for at least a few years sends a bad message that it's "business as usual".

The NCAA needs to do something more tangible, or it makes big-time football look bad. Shut it down, Emmert.

From what I gather from various news outlets, the penalties being levied against PSU will be worse than the death penalty. I'm not sure how some still feel this will not be sufficient. If half the team ends up leaving...doesn't that send the message? Its seems the NCAA might actually understand the full ramifications of a true DP, even if others don't.

I pretty much never agree with Cincy- except that we both want OSU to win- but I agree with him this time.

Yay! Common ground. I always prefer to side WITH fellow Buckeyes.

We need to toughen up our out of conference future scheduling as PSU will be irrelevant for years . This could hurt us in tiebreakers (strength of schedule) in the selection of the Top 4

Penn State will be a smoking crater when the NCAA finishes with them.

According to a Yahoo! Sports article: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--sources--ncaa-president-to-hit-penn-state-with--staggering--penalties-from-sandusky-scandal.html

"One source told Yahoo! Sports Emmert’s sanctions will include a “multiple-year” bowl ban and “crippling” scholarship losses. Penn State will not receive the "death penalty.""

Obviously not official but I'm doubting they'll get the death penalty. I do think a "multiple-year bowl ban and crippling scholarship losses" is sufficient though. Tomorrow is going to be interesting

I guess its suppose to be "on par" with the dealth penalty or worse... 5 year bowl ban would be fitting, loss of 10 scholarships a year would also be fitting IMO... some may disagree but i think it has to put the program on life support for at least 4-5 years as opposed to just killing it

Come on men, kidding is fun :),  but this isn't funny its all about the kids!  it can take forever for them to get their heads straight again, this is something they have to live with the rest of their lives! and Penn State might get 5 years tops! Is that fair?

This is one of the most popular posts of all-time on their site, posted around the same time that Tatgate was going on. The arrogance of the Penn State fan base is mindboggling. And now they're running around blaming the NCAA, acting like they shouldn't be penalized because JoePa is gone?

I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.

Since day 1 i have always been very against the ncaa getting involved in the penn st scandal. but after looking over everything they really have to. As i am drunk please excuse me if this reasoning makes no sense. but in a normal work enviorment if bob finds out tom is raping boys in the bathroom what does he do? he turns him in to the proper authorities. at penn st. when joe found out jerry was raping boys what did he do? he covered it up so he could win more football games. it may be more complex than that but after sitting back and trying to be as objective as possible it really does seem that simple.

Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!

Ive often thought this but never said it, What if the boy being raped was Jay Paterno?  Do you think this would have gone on for over a decade?  You know something would have happened immediately.  Lets be realistic, I call a spade a spade, Joe Paterno and those responsible for covering up something this monumental are the least of the least.  They should be dealt with accordingly... and please please please quit using Jim Tressels name in the same sentence.  He doesnt look like a choir boy, he is.

4 year bowl ban, $60M fine, lose 10 schollies this year, and 20 more over next 4, and vacate 112 wins back to 1998.

Commence mass de-commitment...

interesting tidbit about Penn State...so, they vacated all of the wins from 1998-2011, which now means - the last game PSU won was with Mike McQueary at Quarterback

So ESPN ran a little article about possibly realigning the conference.  In short Delany says that he has not thought about, nor is he planning on realigning the conference.  Argument for realignment is Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, and Penn State.  Looks like Wisconsin and Ohio State are going to battle for the division for quite a few years.

I still wish they'd replace the divisional names "Leaders & Legends" with something like "Great Lakes & Great Plains", "North & South", or something...anything
