I'm thinking if all of the Nevin Shapiro allegations stick - 3 year bowl ban, 36 schollys lost, 4 year probation. I don't know - it's kind of tough to say, because Miami's been in hot water so many times. Does Emmert make an example of them? It will be interesting to see, given the PSU penalties.

How could they not? The PSU case was in a very gray area for the NCAA, unprecedented, if you will. Miami and UNC, if the charges stick, blatenetly broke laws that are most critical to everything the NCAA stands for - preserving the integrity of amateur athletics and the student athlete. I would look for every bit of USC-like punishments, possibly harsher sanctions.
I was just talking about this with a co-worker (who is a Miami Hurricane fan), he doesn't think it looks good. But what bugs me is the length of time between these allegations surfacing and the final decision. I feel like they are going to get off easy, even with the recent alleged violations.
Somewhere between PSU and USC, I wouldn't imagine the NCAA to shut down Miami if they weren't going to shut down PSU but Miami was convicted of actually cheating in terms of recruiting instead of just a cover up.
Will there be anything more on Cam Newton's recruitment/purchase, or has the NCAA closed the book on that? Who else has notable investigations pending? Oregon, North Carolina?
GLiening
Oregon, North Carolina, and Miami while the NCAA is reported to be searching around both Bama (suitgate) and Texas (colt mccoy and other reports of improper benefits)
What is the Bama "suitgate" allegation?
**Never mind -- found it on the net. A year old, guys signing jerseys, but no payment smoking gun that I was able to find.
GLiening
I was under the impression that the NCAA was done wiht Miami and wasn't going to dole out any further punishment(s).
Regarding Bama - the pictures and evidence is fairly abundant but for some reason the NCAA hasn't seemed to want to get involved in that one. There was a website that was dedicated to it but I forget what it was called.
Regarding Miami - I'm under the impression they are still investigating and/or deciding on punishments. They're not off the hook yet.
I can't wait. I had no real feelings for PSU but I do hate Miami. Actually, I loved the 1987 Fiesta Bowl.
Also along these lines...Has anyone heard anything about the recruiting BS going on at Oregon last year or so? Maybe I'm out of the loop and that was already resolved while I was living abroad or something but I haven't heard so much of a whisper of that situation since the news first broke on it.
@ BOLT - I was wondering the same thing. That Willie Lyles recruiting situation is pretty obvious that something fishy was/(is) going on there. The NCAA seems to be dragging their feet on that one as well.

As you guys can see the NCAA moves slow in order to make sure they do a thorough job, Miami and UNC will get theres very soon. I wouldnt imagine anything to happen to Bama or Texas anytime soon
With this happening to PSU...I could see a one year bowl ban and loss of scholarships. I do think them sitting out a Bowl game last year may get them out of a bowl ban though. We'll see I suppose.

If its anything less than what Ohio state got its rediculous. They received a ton more money than any OSU player did and in much larger quantities. Should be 1 year bowl ban with 10 schollys per year
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Miami players were taking DRUGS, PROSTITUES, and ILLEGALLY LAUNDERED MONEY among other things. I would imagine Miami will be rough, and I will enjoy every second of it
Rural Meyer, I'm not trying to be a smartass so please don't take my question as so. I sincerely want to know what you mean so I'm not familiar with what your speaking of? What happened at Texas and what were you talking about Colt McCoy? Again, I sincerely would like to know.
I'll try to find the video tomorrow, but theres a video on the interwebs of colt mccoys fiance admiting that he took a car among other things at Texas. I've also heard other rumblings about high profile recruits in Texas, i'll try to link those tomorrow too. The texas rumors maybe more hearsay then the bama allegations since theres less tangable evidence I can post, but all I know is Miami and UNC will not be the end to the NCAA's current reign terror.

I had trouble finding the other articles that I had read a while ago about UT recruits allegedly getting cars and other benefits. But for now this article should give you hint that the NCAA will be digging around Austin, TX

You can probably change the tag to "Alabama" or "Saban" and find others. Apparently, SBB is far from reputable, though. Looks legit to me, but take it FWIW.

If the NCAA can't do a thorough job of investigating, they should hire Freeh.
They need investigators that can uncover problems without cooperation from the school being looked at.
It's going to be hard to see Miami getting less than what USC got, as it seems like their situation was exponentially worse. Those are some of the wildest allegations I've seen (PSU aside). I'd have to imagine 2-3 year postseason ban, 10 schollies/yr for 3 years, 500k fine and 3 years probation.
I have a feeling the Oregon issue has been ongoing this whole time but nobody really has known about it. You cannot ignore the recruiting situation with the guy in Texas getting so much money.
IMO, I think the NCAA should start taking a look at Clemson. Look at the traditional critera for recruiting success -
- Storied program with great tradition
- Top flight facilities that are well-known in the CFB world
- Elite head coach
- Desireable location
- Academics
- Elite conference participation
The teams that usually recruit the best (Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, scUM, etc.) can claim at least 4-5, if not all 6 of these characteristics. However -
- Clemson has little to no real tradition or legacy as a CFB powerhouse of any sorts
- Their facilities seem pretty average
- Their head coach is unknown to most CFB fans (Dabo Swinney)
- They are located in rural NW South Carolina, nowhere near a large city or coast
- Their academics are nothing special
- The ACC is a lower-tier conference
Yet, every year, they bring in an elite recruiting class and have scored some of the most sought-after recruits for years now. How are they attracting these recruits??
Bama should be in some serious trouble!!!!! No? What the heck?
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
From what I heard about UNC they recieved the exact same penalties as OSU. I think if the allegations from Nevin Shapiro prove to be at all true they will get a worse penalty than USC, but less so than PSU.
After looking at the links related to the alabama scandal I dont know how the NCAA hasnt done more. All the photos and gear present in the one boosters store is enough to raise questions. Also the address change for richardson and his family also. It all seems very fishy. The photos of jones and ingram as well should raise questions. Finally the letter from the AD banning the booster present in all photos from alabama football says it did happen and they want to stop it before it happens more.
Clemson has in my opion the 2 best young and up coming coaches in Dabo Sweeny and Chad Morris, I have yet to see any red flags for them.
@ChicagoBuckeye..I think its less about the latest thing thats happened at Duh U and more about the track record of Duh U that makes people think that something along the lines of what State Penn got is in the offing for Duh U...............(Hates Miami with a passion.in case you hadn't noticed)
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Dabo Sweeney hasn't done or won anything! His name is catchy! Clemson is bribing players by taking their teammates so they join the team! Miami should get slammed worse than PSU in my opinion, agree that this is totally the NCAA realm, PSU everyone wants to rightfully punish for their crimes but Miami is so deep in broken rules, multiple counts over years with everyone involved that's the Pres, ad, and like last 3-4 coaches! They should get something rough! The whole thing is corrupt! But then you're punishing so many who weren't involved! They should start erasing past player and coaches NCAA records! And make schools play bowl games for free(instsead of bans), with heavier fines.
Wherever you are, there you be!
Clemson's campus is one of the nicest ones I've ever seen, and they have an amazing climate. Their stadium is pretty awesome, too, and they've had a lot of success sending people to the NFL. I don't see why they shouldn't be successful in recruiting. Also, Swinney is pretty awesome.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Clemson broads are hot, too.

To the best of my knowledge:
Investigation Still Pending
Oregon
Miami
No legs, no investigation
Alabama
Texas
Resolved without sanctions
Auburn - Bylaw for inappropriate benefits was changed to include family members.
Resolved with sanctions
USC
Ohio State
Penn State
Don't know
UNC - I had this in the Resolved with Sanctions category but then this imaginary Black Studies class came up. I'm thinking it's going to generate another NOA for UNC while they are currently already on probation. Which means -- uh oh -- here it comes.
I honestly don't know how this imaginary class got missed in the original UNC investigation. It's been going on for a while.

When I lived in Texas, there was always talk of the UT players getting free cars. I especially remember when Vince Young was there, that most of the tea-sips got preferential treatment.
Remember last year urban was doing a clemson game early in the season for espn? He said he used to rip his assistants for losing studs like cj spiller to clemson. Then he got on campus and experienced gameday there and it all made sense. That place is awesome. I was there for their win over florida st last year and it was pretty close to as loud as the osu wisconsin game i was at last year.
As for clemson broads, they are indeed wonderful. I married one. 10/10.
You'll never see those schools in the south get investigated until they stop winning National Titles. Until then, articles like this SBB aren't going to be like SI and yahoo was for Tress. Hey...they're at least trying to get it out there for all to see.

Mack Brown should have dohe anything for Vince and Colt. All the talent texas every year, and they were nothing w/o these 2 guys. He owes everything to them. Never saw a guys single handedly take over a game like Young ... and I hated it. Hence the excitement when we got Pryor ... and, we got caught.
I think Miami has to get more than USC. I'm not saying they should for sure get the Death Penalty, but Penn State avoided the Death Penalty because this was the first time the NCAA ever had to sanction them for anything, and they argued that to Mark Emmert. Miami obviously can't make that same argument. They are repeat offenders and if these violations are as bad as some make it sound, then could the Death Penalty come into play? If not, certainly a 2 or 3 year bowl ban, with not quite as many schollies as PSU gone, but a fairly significant number.
Class of 2010.
