here are his highlights; was curious myself. i have seen his name over the last couple of weeks and man is he a tough dude! lets hope jayme knows what he is talking about. i love him coming back after the lineman that held him!
He was an early offer (about the same time as Anzalone/Smith)... His recruitment really died to a hush overall as he didn't really do a whole lot of traveling/visiting this summer. Him plus Lee would make this a small but fantastic LB class... Lewis would be icing on the cake.
Let's see if our '13 commits in Oregon right now can get him up for FNL... this could be a quick trigger
wasnt hip to mitchell but i liked what i saw on film (looks like a lil nasty streak in him; I Like)...Hope J. Thompson is right...I'd take Mitchell and T. Lewis for the 13 class and would be happy
We sometimes like to make comparisons of new recruits to past players like Big Kat. I am going to make one more. This guy is so relentless he reminds me of Ted Hendricks, The Mad Stork. I hope Mike is a Buckeye and becomes the next "Mad Stork".
Wait, does anyone know if he has $EC speed?!?!
His highlights... it's like I'm watching Tebow imagining himself in 2157 as Percy Harvin playing LB in the Hyperbole Bowl.
Kid looks great. I hope we hear good news on him soon. (As long as we don't have to hear the parents commentary on Saturday's.) I'd almost be willing to listen to gangster rap over that, well almost. Definitely looks like a great kid. He is much more physical and a better tackler than one of our recent prospects.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Word is, Mike hasn't made many visits or traveled much due to his brothers AAU summer tourney schedule. I think Matta is hoping Urban can snag Mike as well :o)
Love the energy he plays with. His speed on kickoff coverage is crazy. Kid is running like his hair is on fire lol Passion!
I know his is going to be taken the wrong way, but I thought Mickey Mitchell (basketball) had a much more impressive highlight tape than Mike Mitchell (football). Would love to land them both, but it looks like Mickey is a little bit better at what he does than Mike.
What I gather from the film: (And I would not consider myself an expert at evaluating film at all)
Mitchell is a workhorse and relentless player, something that Urban yearns for so it is easy to see what Urban loves about him.
His measurables (size, speed, athleticism) are off the charts.
He's a player that seems to have very good pre-snap IQ. He looked to have a knack of where the ball would go, something good to have from a MLB.
What he is lacking it seems was being a truly polished player at the position. Subtle things like pursuit angles, being under control, and overly aggressive were a few areas I saw that needed improvement.
Has the athleticism to overcome it though, and the coaching staff to develop in those facets of his game.
Weak in space probably has correlation to the poor angles, misguided steps, and being out of control at times.
Again though, he already has the athleticism to overcome it, and the coaching to improve upon those areas of weakness. Doubt you'd hear much from him first year, or possibly two, of college.
I'd have him on kickoff coverage from day 1.Remember the energy and enthusiasm Bellisari brought his freshman year on the kickoff team? Kid looks like he would run thru a wall. Positioning and technique will no doubt need work, but this kid has a motor that can't be taught. His heart and attitude are things that will be a bonus in the locker room. That stuff is contagious!
Hawk and other LBs made a name for themselves on special teams. It would be nice but I'd expect more teams to pile on offers after that performance in Oregon (Texas). I just hope Urban already has him locked in like so many others (like a USC blog) seem to think.

National championship calibar defenses being constructed one piece at a time. Coach Withers, Vrabel, Fickel and Coombs salivating like rabid dogs at the possibilities......
Always got to remember that it's about potential at this point. It's hard to evaluate a player based on film from junior and sophomore years of high school.
These kids still have a senior high school season to play, then preparations for college play with the likelihood of playing as an underclassman not very high.
So, for a player like Mitchell, it's great that he has freakish speed, size, and athleticism because a kid like this can always be coached into a great football player with an extremely high ceiling.
If he commits, the staff will definitely advise him on a plan on how to improve as a football player because you can't teach what Mitchell pulled off in the SPARQ.
Agreed with David. This kid is all about potential at this point. First of all, it's not like he's signed anything or even given a verbal so we shant get TOO far ahead of ourselves. I'd also say already penning him in as a key piece to a national championship defense is ambitious as well. Anyone remember a guy named Mike D'Andrea that had a massive frame and freakish athletic abilities?
I have enough faith in Urbz and the fantastic coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball to develop this guy if he indeed comes. No one is really a can't miss regardless of how athletic they are, though. The ex-factor for a linebacker for me is someone that's relentless in getting to the ball. That's more of a personality thing that can't be coached either. Some guys have that motor and intensity, some don't. Bosa has it (I know he's not an LB). Mitchell looks like he has it. A guy that comes to mind that I don't really see it and hasn't lived up to potential (imo): Etienne Sabino.
Agreed...and that's part of the equation with any player and living up to their potential. D'Andrea never really played inspiring football any time I can remember when he actually was on the field, anyway.
It's one thing to rack up 151 tackles in high school based on pure athleticism and the fact that you're a supreme athlete to all of the other teenagers on the field. It's another thing to do it against 22 year old men who are on the same level as you athletically. He'll need to eliminate his false steps, his over aggressive pursuits where he overruns the ball carrier and sharpening his angles. These are all coachable things and they do matter. A lot of those arm tackles he winds up making pulling down the ball carrier in his video he won't be making at the next level. Like I said I have supreme faith in our coaching staff that he'll get the proper tutelage.
He would be a big get. dont want to get too excited with the number of near misses weve had lately but he would definetly help out the lb corps. and in the short term we could use that intensity on kick coverage. just had the pleasure of seeing a replay of florida running one back against us in the gator bowl. guy just ran straight up the sideline..noone got within 5 yards..depressing
Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!
The fact that urbs is sitting on these hidden gems leaves me no other choice than to be completely patient and trust that Urbs & Gang knows what they are looking for, hell, they may have us fooled.
Alex has even tweeted this, as well as a rumor (from Jayme Thompson) that Mitchell could be a Buckeye by next week.
How would that be as far as replacing the de-commitments of Anzalone and Neal? Looks like Mitchell is quite the physical specimen/athlete already.

Cause I couldn't go for three
When I looked at Rivals it didn't even have an OSU offer on his page.
vacuuming sucks
I saw the same thing Maestro, but 247 does have him with an offer. As does Scout. But ESPN does not have an OSU offer listed.
This kid looks amazing!

love the tape...big kid with lateral quickness --- Big Kat, Jr. ... hope we get him!

Nevermind, my math was off =\
Wonder if JT Barrett will help at all in his recruitment...
Would love to add him to our class. Has the second highest SPARQ score so far!
40" verticle??? Is that the same as a vertical?
vacuuming sucks
Jesus this kid is violent. Love his tape. Urban wants competitors like this, he'd be a great fit, and Herman does well in Texas.
lock him up!
Yeah, he tackles like he wants to hurt someone and doesn't give up on plays -- looks like tOSU-caliber linebacker to me.

Incredible! Love the dunk! My new favorite LB recruit.

Miles passed me along a bit of info and there's reason to be optimistic on this one but we shall see.
Wait, does anyone know if he has $EC speed?!?!

Mad what? I need to go brush up on some history. lol

@JUGDISH; On point old school comparison....
Alex says on Twitter that he's hearing that tOSU is the team to beat.
Yep, so turn into ESPNU to watch him at 8PM!
And the above comment was either deleted or I'm having cache issues.

He's a thumper, who reads plays very well. Love it.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
this kid is quick for sure! hope to nab him up soon. added plus, his brother is one of the best in bball in 2015! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx--0AIZoPQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Hmmm, there seems to be a recognizable face at the 1:39 mark who's already taking some interest in this 2015 recruit.

I swear when he's coming across the line he looks just like Bosa. Maybe not as mean but it's still there.

Agreed Derek, sometimes he looked like he was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Can't get out of position if you are the MLB.
This, and I hear he's weak in space. But these are things that can be coached. 4.4 speed and superior athleticism cannot
Weak in space probably has correlation to the poor angles, misguided steps, and being out of control at times.

He simply has a gear that others do not though.

Was actually thinking the EXACT same thing.
The X-factor for Mike Mitchell is his speed. Big bodies are a dime a dozen at this level. Very excited if he picks the good guys.
Who needs pursuit angles when you are Mike Mitchell fast (kidding, .....kind of)?
I have enough faith in Urbz and the fantastic coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball to develop this guy if he indeed comes. In D'Andrea's defense, the guy was never healthy at OSU.
Agreed...and that's part of the equation with any player and living up to their potential. D'Andrea never really played inspiring football any time I can remember when he actually was on the field, anyway.
it doesnt matter what angle your tackling from when you rack up 151 tackles...he is getting to the ball carrier somehow

Looks like the linebacker version of Bosa.
