Whats your point Tenn? He is 80th on 247 and 48 on rivals. Only Scout, which would probably give me a 5 star rating if I asked nicely, has him rated in the Top 25. Not saying the kid isn't good, but his projections are going to be all over the place seeing as his HS position is not what he will be playing in college.
Showed athletics, but didn't show it on the field. Only reasons it seems silly is because Taco is the same mold, lots of upside but not polished and he gets more love.

Actually it is probably the most annoying thing a person can do over the internet, esp when trying to communicate like an adult. Maybe that is the issue...
And ESPN is only recruiting trash because you choose to only focus on what you perceive to be negative. By your logic, since ESPN's ratings are so bad, Woodard is overrated and so is the rest of our Top 5 class.
Edit - 247 only moved Mitchell up to 136, guess we better disregard them as a source for recruiting as well.

i personally like to evaluate these guys based on the game film; i know we have only seen this kids highlight reel but he is all over the place and plays with a reckless abandon! his style of play fits exactly what we are doing with the LB corps right now, big and fast, and for lack of a better term he plays angry! i could care less how many stars, like somebody mentioned above he plays high school football in TX and had 151 tackles and slam dunked the shit out of the basketball in the 1 basketball highlight. plus if we land him we have a pretty good chance to have a heads up on recruiting his brother for hoops!
Thats all I was trying to say SilverbulletinCincy I was just poking fun at Espn bc when Luginbill was called out for having him rated so low he was speechless....I think there is alot of pride over there at ESPN and bad info...regardless if the kid comes to Ohio State or not he's a freak of nature and regardless of what Anzalone tweets the kid is a football player.

Mitchell will break the top 100 during the year no doubt about it, from all accounts he works extremely hard and that has already paid off as we saw from The Opening, I hope this kid ends up a Buckeye, our LB core will be pretty ridiculous...side comment: really excited to see what the incoming freshman LBs bring to the table

M.Mitchell is SICK, dude ran a 4.39 as a 230lb+ high school senior laser timed at that. That is absolutely SCARY. I do know the biggest, strongest, or fastest hasn't always been the best, but watching him I just get the feeling he is going to be pretty good. In the last 2 years alone we've brought in 2 starting caliber defensive lines. The scariest thing is this coaching staff's eye for talent. They offered J.McNeil before most everyone else did, same thing goes for L.Neal as well as M.Mitchell. So I know they will get the players, now I want to see how we look during game time situations. If our offense plays anything like Oregon's, we know our defense is going to be good. I see at least a couple of National titles in our future. I've said it before and will say it again, I think Urban has the same impact @OSU that Saban had @Bama ....

Buckinbama: I agree, it's always a big plus when a kid is physically gifted. In fact, to be a truly special player, a kid usually has to be at least somewhat of a freak of nature (although not always). Rare physical tools do not guarantee high-level play, but they can be a prerequisite.
On that note, Anzalone's comment struck me as revealing insecurity on his part. If Anzalone knows in his heart that he's going to destroy cfb, he really doesn't have to say anything when other kids get better conbine scores. He claims that these scores mean very little. Okay, so why go out of your way publicly to make a point about scores that mean so little?

I have read it in several places on this site that AA's comment was a response to an Ohio State fan thanking him for decommitting and stating that we now can get Mitchell. i still think anzalone was talking shit about mitchell but who really cares; i just think its funny that both of those guys were on the same team if i am not mistaken. alex will be very good in college but if we land mitchell i think we got the better of the 2 anyway. i have all the confidence in the world in what urban is doing and the class he is putting together. with FNL here in a few weeks i can see us landing 2 or 3 guys after that weekend is over. hopefully we have a lot of our commits there to hang out with these guys and show them around! 7 weeks fellas and its on!
Mitchell is a physical and athletic freak yes. But watching his film, you can see he very far from a finished product. He overpursues a lot and doesn't have the greatest feet. But he makes up for that with a nasty streak the size of texas itself and absolutely freakish athletic ability and a nose for getting to the ball at all costs. This kid has the physical tools to be special. And getting in work with coach fickell can do wonders for him as far as polishing his technique and footwork. Hopefully he ends up a buckeye.
I think Anzalone is better today as a player. However, since 2 of the 3 starters this year at LB are returning in 2013, and there are a ton of frosh who are already going to be a year ahead, Mitchell will have a chance to either redshirt (I know people hate that word) or just play ST his frosh year and learn the system.
Both are very very good players
When your a super fast defender you will over run plays. Just the nature of the beast he will just have to be coached up. I'll take him.
Taco is less of an athlete and more of a project yet no one has a problem rating him in the top 100... just saying. I think both are in the same mold of needing coached up, but both have tons of potential.
Why does it matter what he is rated? Honestly, why does anyone care?

It's hard for me to see this kid as a project type of guy when I hear the word project I think of big Chris carter.... Once again this kid had 151 tackles and 11 sacks in a state where football is religion.... Keep in mind he hasnt played a down of his senior season yet And he still can get better.. When we lost Neal and anzalone our linebacker class looked bleek now with the possibility of getting tyquan Lewis and mitchell as buckeyes we have hope again God bless you URBAN

Steensn: I agree Taco is overrated and I think Alex has commented on that a couple times. However it is easier to just be a freak athlete as a dlineman than as a linebacker. LBs have to understand the whole defense a lot more than a lineman does, especially if the lineman is a pass rusher specialist.
Good points, I agree. It is easier to produce as a freak athlete on the line than LB. Gholston was a perfect example.
