Barrett rated 6th out of all the contestants at last week's event by 247.
In the chat that went on during the event, JC Shurburtt mentioned a few times that Barrett was up for an increase in the rankings.

So far ESPN Elite 11 hasn't shown Barrett any love... I've yet to see them interview him or show any of his competition.
I get the feeling he simply didn't stand out enough to get extended exposure. He's raw, and as a dual-threat, he won't shine at events like these up against Browne, Hack, and Morris. He'll have his day though
so if he ranked 6th he made the elite 11 than? or this is just 247's ranking and not trent dilfers lol

I'm not sure. They aren't talking about him at all on here right now. Elite 11 is being broadcast on ESPN as I am typing this.
The next episode comes on August 14 on ESPN at 7et time. Barrett didn't make the top 11 after the first episode. He can move up on the next show.
This is 247's list. He didn't make the final 11 in the actual competition last month.
ok thanks for the clarification I.8.....do we know what the final elite 11 was.....hope that scum weasel morris didnt make it but im sure he did.....oh well barrett will own him head to head

Zaire has a better arm, I think it wasn't to difficult to see that from the beginning. He's less consistent though, and he won't be used in a system that advantages a dual threat guy.
So put Morris, Browne, Hackenberg, Ramsey, Zaire, etc. in a different category than Woulard, Stanton, Barrett, Jennings, and Swoopes. Compare them amongst each other, add their mobility, and Barrett will show you why 247 has him as their number one dual threat.
agreed about zaire having a better arm but the kid is mobile too so zaire could be in both categories but im definitely going with the buckeye commit and uncle urban's(thats what i have my 2 yr old daughter calling him lol) assesment over mine. and barrett opening the pipeline to texas doesnt hurt either. i noticed he was #1 in 247 than not nearly as high on the other sites. either way im happy w/ barrett i just hope zaire doesnt make me second guess this in 3-4 years lol

Agreed^^^Morris fits what tTUN is trying to do and Barrett fits OSU. It should be interesting to see these guys battle it out at QB after Miller and Gardner or whomever move on...I feel "at this point in his career" Barrett is more polished than Miller was. We'll see in less than 24 days what to expect from Miller...can't wait guys!

1.) I'm still trying to figure out why Zaire went to ND. College football live has ND in a 4 way battle at QB right now. I don't see him going in there and starting right away.
2.) I see Drew Barker as our next QB. I think he comes in the 2014 class, redshirts 1 year and then beats out Barrett for the starting spot. Everything I've read on Barker is that he is a mobile physical kid who has good accuracy.
3.) In the end, I don't really care who the staff brings in because I trust them to evaluate the talent when recruiting and then develop the talent once it gets to Columbus.
I'll ask again, why not go after Christian Hackenberg?
Not sure I disagree, but the logic deep inside says he doesn't fit the system. There's a reason guys like him weren't recruited from the beginning
True, but it's more like hedging your bets.
Are you talking about my response, or the recruiting strategy? haha
HAHA... well I was talking recruiting but why not throw in your responce :)
Competition is always good at the QB position. He runs a 4.8 40 and a 4.3 shuttle, not terrible but not that fast. Give him some time with the new S&C there is no reason it couldnt be a bit faster making it acceptable in Urban's style offense. Doesn't seem any less athletic than Alex Smith who ran Urban's offense just great.
Haha I thought you were accusing me of being non-committal.
I completely agree with you, but then I also trust Urban in knowing what it takes to have success in the spread, so I'm torn.
Interesting article on JT, about his chances at being "Ohio State Good".
Also, is anyone else really glad that we didn't land Swoopes? Seems like before he committed to Texas we were all praying he'd give OSU a look, now it seems like he's been underwhelming at every camp he attends.
Swoopes is a crazy athlete though. He's a guy you take a gamble on in my opinion, because he has the athletic tools to be Vince Young 2.0. If he manages to pick up the passing aspect, he'll be amazing.
Hey that article mention G.J. Kinne! I coached him in basketball! That kid was one hell of a Qb at Gilmer! If he would have stayed at UT he would have won them a NC!
But JT has underwhelmes as well, no seeing the difference.
Not nearly as much as Swoopes has at camps. Where JT's not making noise (though finishing 6th out of 24 invitees at the Elite 11 is pretty good, in my humble opinion), Swoopes is constantly being criticized for not performing well in even the simplest throwing drills. I also see it from the disparity in ratings: Swoopes is #43 in 247's composite ratings, whereas Barrett's at #109. I suppose that since Swoopes is by and large considered the superior prospect, I've been surprised to have seen him struggling so mightily in the camp circuit, while Barrett simply hasn't been a "top performer", he's been consistently solid.
in response to comments way up there...Barrett and Morris are both top 11 QBs in this class. The Top 11 put out means zilch to me.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Expectations are a tricky thing, you'd really have to compare their performances compared to each other.
I agree Hail. Barret not making the Elite 11 was surprising to me, but given that he is a dual threat guy and not entirely polished it didn't totally shock me. What did shock me was Morris not making it. He has a big arm and should and routinely does shine at events like that his absence from espn list was confusing. It seems like the elite 11 that got named at camp was more about how guys advanced during the week, how hard they tried (not that Barret and Morris didn't try), and not how well the coaches think these guys will do down the road. But who knows like Hail said the list is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things, I think both will do great when they get to college.
Barrett WASN'T ranked 6th in ESPN's Elite 11, he was ranked 6th in 247's Elite 11. I have no doubt this kid will be good enough to play for us. I don't think Meyer, Herman, and the rest of the staff would bring this kid in if he couldn't play. I just wonder if he will be able to hold off the 2014 QB whether it be Henderson or Barker. Everything I'm reading on those 2 kids is that they are accurate plus they can make plays with their legs. I like the word ACCURATE... Considering what we watched last year. I know Miller was thrown into a bad situation as a freshman, but watching him overthrow wide open WR's on Saturday's was brutal.
There is a difference betweeen good enough to play for OSU and good enough to beat all the competition at OSU. If we get the guys we hope to get in 2014, he'll have a hard time beating them out. But that doesn't mean if we don;t get those guys that we have no legitimate starter.
All this won't mean a thing win he wins the Heisman trophy under Herman and Meyers offense.

I agree...they've done nothing IMO until they put on Scarlet and Gray or those sunshine and sky colors. Once they start to play...I feel they'll have some good battles.

Troy Smith wouldn't have been invited to the Elite 11. Bauserman wasn't the 11th best QB in the state of Ohio last season, if compared to all high school QB's. Alot can happen between high school and when a player takes the field for their college team.
Troy Smith was an elite 11 QB in 2001.
