Thoma was a punter. Devin Barclay kicked the field goal... or am I missing something?
Yes, Devin kicked the field goal. Jon describes what it was like or "captures" what it was like
See, I did miss something. Sorry.
I was one of the students who rushed the field that night...still my favorite memory in the 'Shoe (closely followed by Air Braxton against Wisky). I can still feel the rubber nubs in the turf as my girlfriend and I were lying on the field, just taking in the moment...I can still hear the "Get a room!" shouts as well haha.
Chills, maybe a little tear.... Good read.
My last home game as a student...don't think I could have ended it much better. Great memories.
When I got the tickets I had no way of knowing it would be the Rose Bowl on the line. I closed my eyes for the kick and then heard the noise. I have never hugged so many strangers in my life
"I want to thank you all for believing in us and taking us there. Buckeye Nation is a dream, inside of a wish, inside of the hardest working, most beautiful people that God placed on this Earth. We would have done nothing without you. Go Bucks."
No Jon, thank you
My fiance is an Iowa alum. She and I have been together about 3 years so she has had to live through me watching OSU pull out two real heart stopping OSU wins. I remember this game fondly as the "Vanderberg" game. That kid had absolutley no business keeping Iowa in that game and other than the bad pick late and taking a sack in OT, he played years beyond his experience. I actually said its a shame someone has to lose a game like that. A year later, we went to Iowa City for the OSU game. we never had any intention of getting tickets to the game but she did have friends that still live down there so I was literally outnumbered 20-1. To make matters worse, we watched the second half at a bar so I was one of about 5 OSU fans in a sea of black and yellow. I was ok with the bantering-I was a stranger in a strange land and anyone who wears the opposing colors to a bar proudly (as I did) has to expect a lot of ribbing. It was all actually pretty cool. A lot of shit talking but nothing to the point of threats or violence. The talks got louder and louder as the game went on, and then the moment I'll never forget. When Pryor broke off the 4th down run for the first down, I watched a bar full of Iowa fansgo completley silent. I have never seen a packed bar be so quiet. It seemed like it was an eternity before I broke the silence by yelling out "TERRELLE PRYOR JUST HAPPENED". The light hearted ribbing turned to jeers but all in all the Iowa fans really were fine hosts.
Those two games were pretty big tests for the girlfriend and I. I think we'll be ok....
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I had to work late that night and listened to the last 2 min of the game in my car on the way home. so i pull into the parking lot of the apt i was living in at the time and sat. i knew there wouldnt be enough time to get inside from the car without missing the kick.
....the snap, the hold, the kick......it's good! pasadena bitches!!!
i go apeshit in my car, run inside and my wife is freaking out, we watch the replay 100 times and fall asleep that night elated.
up till then she was kinda "meh" about osu football. but not after.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
@BrewstersMillions
She's a keeper
My girlfriend at the time, who is now my wife (no brainer), booked us a trip (we live in Minnesota) and got tickets to that game as a birthday present for me. It was her first experience in the 'shoe. She couldn't believe the fans: "I thought you were the crazy one. EVERYONE is like that. This is awesome."
She's pretty shy, but when that kick went through I turned to give her a big hug and she was halfway down the row high fiving and celebrating with complete strangers. Welcome to Buckeyenation, dear.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
There are no strangers in the 'Shoe with a game like that!
One of my favorite games I attended, right behind the '06 game vs. TSUN...
Recalling that moment and hearing all of your stories makes it mighty dusty in my eyeball-space dammit. I remember going over to a full size Hawkeye Winnebago on the way out, obviously they were crushed in the aftermath but my girlfriend's brother and myself cracked open some Blanton's (maybe Bookers?) and had a heavy pull with those devastated Iowans. One of the best games I've ever seen, they agreed and were grateful for the fine hooch and the annoyingly kind consolation banter from 2 crazed Bucks. That was a great read by Thoma. Good stuff. I had forotten about Barclay's EPL-like scamper after he nailed it.

One of my best friends in the world is an iowa fan by default. His dad is an iowa alum. His family is from iowa, and he just likes to be a contrarian little troll. I watched the game with him in his garage. I remember him having to close the garage door at one point during the second half. Vandenberg was killing me...true freshman, in the shoe, against the silver bullets and he was playing lights out. I almost lost my voice screaming at the tv. He was growing more and more irritating with every completion, every defensive stop. Then overtime happened, the defense remembered who they were, and poor young james was also reminded that he was...well, a freshman. We were both standing, watching a tiny little tv in his garage. Both praying...one for a miss, and one for an epic game winner. We all know got their wish that night. Thanks jon for letting us in on what it felt like to be in the thick of the moment. On the field, holding that kick and knowing it was going through. Its pieces like this that remind us just how blessed we are as buckeye fans. Knowing that these young men who take the field feel the same way about us as we feel about them. Love, pride and blessed to be a part of buckeye nation!
I was pissed after we went ultra-conservative in OT and was nervous about the kick, but it went right down the damn middle. My friends dashed for the aisles to rush the field like .5 seconds after it went through...it was like damn, give me a moment to cheer! Haha...fun night.
Class of 2010.
