Just saw that Jalin Marshall lost his 5th star according to 247. Not a big deal, just wondering what everyone else thinks. I live not far from Middletown and have seen this kid a lot and he's explosive. If he's a "4 Star", I can't imagine watching a "5 star" high school talent in person.

I thought he was ranked too high on 247. Yeah, he's a ridiculous athlete, but he doesn't play same position in HS as he will in college. That pretty much dooms a recruit from necessary development, and let's remember that ratings aren't all about potential. There should be no reason to be any less excited about him
Agreed, I kinda expected him to take a fall, 95 is right around where he probably should be, gotta remember he just started playing at WR, he's not gonna be as polished as some of the other guys out there.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I just saw that, too. Crazy he went from #1 Buckeye commit to 5th and # 80 overall when he was 8th, or so, before.
To make it worse (for some of you) Shane Morris is now a 5-Star.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

People seem to have this idea that change in star ranking makes you a different person... He's the same Jalin Marshall, Morris didn't suddenly become a different human being either.
The reason why he lost his 5th star is because he didn't have a GREAT camp at the Opening. From what I've heard, it was really Ramsey's (QB) fault on the 7v7s. And his 40 time was due to clock malfunctioning. So nothing really went Marshall's way. Either way, it doesn't really matter, because we all know that he's a beast and he's still the same person. And this might give him a little more motivation, too.
I really don't know why this site puts so much emphasis on 247's ratings...Scout has the best rankings by far simply because they have the best and most scouts at their disposal.
Like I said, it's not a big deal. Just something to kick around.
He is a dual threat qb in high school and on 247, #6 rb on scout, #2 athlete on rivals, and he will play(and has camped as) WR in college. This guy is the #1 or #2 best all around offensive player. Deserves 5 stars just for doing everything
oh, and dont even get me started on how underrated ezekiel elliot
t is
Does this mean theyre going to eliminate the smoke in his highlight video too? Maybe replace it with concrete blocks on his feet? Whatever, he's my favorite buckeye recruit. my eyes and ears tell me he is a TOP NOTCH player. I dont even know if humans are involved with 247. I think its a system like the old BCS, they put all ur stats and times and reps in a machine and it spits out the results.
I like 247 better than any of the other sites. Just personal preference, really.

Honestly, I've never been a big fan of Scout or 247. Scout's rankings are actually the most "different" (couldn't think of a better word) than all 3 of the other well-known scouting services (247, ESPN, Rivals). 247 is up and down. ESPN has actually been more accurate this year IMO. But, Rivals seems the most consistent IMO and is my favorite recruiting website, and I feel like I can trust them the most.
I don't mean to incite anything, but just wondering, what's your idea of accurate? There's no possible way to know how accurate they are while these kids are still in HS.
Second, Rivals has been the most consistent in the past, but a lot of rivals staff members moved to 247 when it started, since it's only a few years old. That would mean 247 has the same tools that made rivals successful.
Was more surprised that Burrows didn't get a fifth afer making the all star team. Losing a star sucks from a publicity standpoint, but it clearly is only a perception thing.
247 loses all credibility for me with their rankings by having Taco Charlton in their top 100 and rated as a 94...
Seriously? That is just pathetic.
Doesn't matter I've seen enough from him to know he is going to be a player. I never expected a blazing 40 time from him, he is more quick then fast, which is normally the case for the slot position.
more than stars and rankings, I trust the offer list the kid has. If Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Tennessee and UCLA want you that's saying a lot.
I'm more concerned about the mentality/ability/work ethic of the player...keep in mind that Aj Hawk and James Laurinaitis were ranked 3 stars while JB Shugarts was a 5.
ah the inevitable references to AJ Hawk and Laurinaitis being 3 stars... if you've watched Marshall's film, he is a 5-star caliber player, who cares about the politics/underlying shananigans of recruiting services.
i dont really care alot about the star rating, sure it would be nice to have a list chalked full of 5 stars. The thing is im just glad that he is commited, i think he will be special, plus being in urbans system the kid should flourish

Yes, Shane is a 5-star with an asterisk.
* He's also an idiot.
I know it's tough to do and it's a down time for football, but just ignore that crap. It's all about money with the recruiting services..we all get too caught up in the "stars" that these players are ranked upon. I bet 3/4 of the Big Ten all decade team were mostly 2/3/4 star players. Marshall looks to be the next big time player out of Ohio regardless of the politics of Rivals/Scout/247 etc.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Well ESPN just gave Woodard a five star, so "the lord taketh.. etc"
No one should care about this * thing. 1.8 and many others including myself have pointed out how many of Tress's guys turned out pretty good who had two or three of those all improtant *s. Meyer and the staff will coach em up and that's all OSU fans need to be concerned with...IMO of course.

"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."

Woodard also up to 7th in the ESPNU 150 for what thats worth... I think Burrows, Woodard, Marshall, Bosa, even Elliott are all 5 star calliber players whatever that even means...our class is full of playmakers and future dominant players, get them to our coaching staff and around the players we will already have, and the players in the class will be among the best in the nation.
This is why I asked the other day why Marshall's 40 time at The Opening (4.66) was being reported if it was recorded with a faulty clock. If the clock didn't work then the time is not legitimate and shouldn't get out there. Marshall is being viewed by the recruiting services as an "athlete." The problem is that 4.66 does not sound very athletic, and certainly not in the elite range that merits a 5* rating. I want to be clear that I'm not saying Marshall shouldn't be a 5*, but if recruiting services believe that 40 time, they will not give him 5 stars regardless of what he does on the field.
247 updates the rest of their rankings today, just a little prediction:
I think Elliott gets another bump up to a 94, mid-4 star
Baugh gets one point up to a 95 after a strong showing
Burrows doesn't move
Woodard moves to a 96, possibly even a 97.
Thompson either stays at 91 or moves to 92, but definitely doesn't move down.
We'll see how accurate these are, but I did read the 80 some page Opening live chat with the 247 analysts, so I think I've gauged their feelings pretty well.
I honestly think a camp setting isn't the best for a player like marshall, who if you look at his film, derives a lot of his amazing skill from the fact that he breaks tackles like crazy. Not really condusive to non-tackle situations.
seriously i wish they would under-rate all of our players, because these kids are competitors, and because of that i would think will train/work harder to prove everyone wrong. Urban knows what it takes to build championship teams, so as long as hes getting the kids he wants i cant wait to see what he and staff will do with said kids.

Eli got a fifth star on ESPN.
