impact freshman

Who do you think out of the incoming class will have a big impact on the field this year? I could see Spence getting in the rotation and contributing right away.

Spence will definitely get time, he's too talented to sit. I can see Perkins and Williams getting in at LB from time to time and definitely on special teams.

I'm thinking if Storm Klein's dismissal sticks then that might give Cam Williams a real shot to make the 2-deep at MLB this Fall.  To my understanding, all the other incoming LBs are projected at OLB (Luke Roberts is listed at OLB on the 2-deep).

Dont forget about Micheal Thomas. He will make the biggest impact no doubt

Thomas could be a solid contributor for sure, but I'm taking a wait and see approach with him. Several guys have had excellent Spring Game performances in the past and not done well in real games.

Dunn, Thomas and Decker on offense. Schutt, Washington or Spence..maybe all three. If Steve Miller turns it on though we'll see less of Spence I think.

I think only LB's getting run this year are Shazier, Grant, Sabino, Crowell, Perry and Roberts, with maybe one of Perkins/Williams/Marcus. All baring injury of coarse.

I still believe Josh Perry will be the one to see the most time at LB as a freshman.

Jason, what do you think of Bennet? Dude looked good last year. He is intelligent and physical. He looked really good in the spring game, for however much stock you put in that, but I don't hear him get mentioned a lot by our community here. Steve Miller looked decent during the spring but I thought Bennet looked like one of the better linemen we had on the field that day. I've watched the spring game over and over and if you focus on him I think it will impress ya.

I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.

@IRRICOIR - The 11W crew had a nice write-up last week about Bennett.  I agree with you that he looked very impressive on the field in the Spring Game.

It is strange how recruting for the following year has shifted so much to the offseason. With so many commits, rumors, and camps its hard to even remember the guys we signed for 2012 that have not even stepped foot into fall practice yet.

I think Adolphus Washington is flying a little under the radar right now.  I most certainly agree that Spence will be a true playmaker as a freshamn but man Adolphus is so big and athletic I can see him making some noise immediately.

Don't sleep on Jamal Marcus. All reports say that he is going to be a special player at OSU...

Man, SilverBullet, I agree.  Washington is also a quick twitch athlete, and has a bigger frame than Spence.  Not to say that I don't think that Spence will also be a stud, but I think that Washington could be my favorite player in this class.

Irricoir-

I like Bennett a lot! I think he'll be pretty good this year as the first man off the bench rotating on the D line..or if Bellamy underperforms I can see Bennett being a starter and never looking back. He is soo quick and explosive for a guy his size. Very smart and humble as well. Could see him as an All big ten D-tackle as a sr for sure.

Spence and Thomas

i think the LB recruits will have to step up. That position is so thin right now they need to play this year. and on the d-line the new guys biggest contribution could be just getting in for some reps and keeping hank/simon fresh making them even better.

Well i like college and i like football...and im gunna keep doin em both cause they make me feel good!!!

our first four games are going to be over by halftime....hence...ALOT of freshmen will see time when the starters get rested, urban is all about reps, when a game becomes one-sided(urban doesnt do forgivness or mercy) he will put in his young bloods to show the recruiting world...hey look at all the freshmen getting burn at O State...we may not see all the freshmen, but we'el see some playmakers....

i see these guys getting time

All the 4 Dline...

All but 1 linebacker maybe...

maybe 1 or 2 db's

Dunn & Ball so hard

wr's Keyshawns cuz and southward

air it out braxton!

No love for Frank Epitropolous?

I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.

What Scotty said.  UCF has a talented and experienced D, and will be a welcome early test for an offense that will just be taking off the training wheels.  I think we'll win, but people expecting a cake walk will be throwing things at the TV for sure.

^ too true.. the ooc schedule actually sets up really really well.. a couple of straight tune ups and a couple of firm tests..all at home..SHOULD come out undefeated and well geared for confrence play.

I think all frosh LBs will make imediate impact on kickoffs with their speed! I also think Spence AND Washington are in the 2deep. We'll see how Schutt can translate to the college game but he was impressive on film.

Have to go with the new o linemen, could see three of decker, o'connor, dodson, and boren stepping straight into the two deep.

I don't see Frank playing this year. Seems like a def redshirt to me. Look at all these guys ahead of him:

Smith, Brown, Spencer, Thomas, Reed, Williams, Fields. Barring a bunch of injuries, or guys just straight up not improving..he sits all year.

Been hearing good things about Luke Roberts, he was recruited as  MLB but someone said he is on the 2 deep at OLB. If Grant gets hurt or doesn't play well I would think Roberts might get a shoot at the MLB spot. I haven't heard much about the other LB's in the class but Perry which I thought he would be all OLB but if he can play MLB then that is fine too. Also who is playing the Star position in Nickel sets this year?

Buckeyejason's picture
Buckeyejason on 9 Jul 2012 - 8:26pm #

I agree that Cal and UCF will be no cake walk! Remember we are still the same team that stunk up the place last year and struggled with seemingly everyone! I expect a much more improved and experienced team but will def struggle alot next season.

In the nickel I believe that Orhian Johnson will be in at safety while Bryant plays the star.

I agree we will be much improved via experience and a new aggressive coaching staff. I meant that we basically have the same players as last season..minus 3 seasoned o-lineman, a veteran RB and WR.

scottynoshotty's picture
scottynoshotty on 9 Jul 2012 - 9:08pm #

jason is right on. while were all very excited about the new staff/more expierienced players, this is basically the same team as last year and we all know how that went. there will definetly be great improvement especially with the cloud of the ncaa gone now that theyve finally handed down the punishment. overall id say running the table is a possibility, but there will definetly still be struggles along the way. ucf, cal,m. state, nebraska, wisky, penn state, ttun, hell almost every game is guna be interesting.

might be worth it..hall hyde smith dunn..gunna be hard to find him some carries

Buckeyejason's picture

I don't know who they lose to...I just know there will be many struggles. They could possibly go 12-0 and look like crap in a lot of games..it's possible lol.

If Ball balls out, (pun intended) and coaches think he's too good to sit, and possibly better off down the line then Rod Smith than I could see him playing. Otherwise a redshirt would be ideal. Also how many injuries occur is another factor.
