This is probably of lesser concern to the masses but I am interested in what Kenny G's role will be on the team this coming season. Obviously, he is the back-up, but Urban has gone on record saying that every team needs to have a back-up prepared and game ready and that us being caught with our pants down last year was a little embarrassing.
He also has given Brax all of the 1st team snaps and reps in practice and has really harped on Braxton's development as a QB and leader being one of our biggest keys to success as a team.
I have always been worried about Braxton's durability (he's a little fragile and he runs like Troy did, recklessly) and that was before he was going to be featured in an offense that is going to truly take advantage of both his legs and arm. Not just legs because the "offensive coordinator" called a PA pass on 3rd and 13.
Anyhow, my question is, what are peoples thoughts and feelings on Kenny G and what do people believe his role in our offense will be this year?
Obviously Braxton is THE man, but I think it is important to continue to get Guiton time under center and game experience. He is only a junior and coaches have been high on him. In the event Braxton misses some gametime due to getting dinged up, I think Guiton is more than competent and capable as a back-up to run the offense. Furhtermore, he chose to come to tOSU last minute, has stayed through all the adversity, and has always been a hardworker on the field and in the classroom. I hope he gets some decent reps throughout the season as we continue to put teams away.

Could see an offensive package wiht both Guiton and Braxton on the field together.

As tOSU fans I can say that we've always been spoiled in having great back up QB's that pick up being the starter very easily. Last year was a harsh reminder of what that was not like, but this year we should expect Guiton to see some playing time in the season and expect to see him impress just like what Braxton has done.
I would say there is a more likelyhood of a Cardale/Braxton package on the field with Cardale split out wide...I've heard rumblings from friends that work in the football program, and you could see a Braxton gun it, Cardale bomb it deep sort of play (simply because his arm strength is quite good). I don't think you'll see any Braxton/Guiton packages.
I don't think you'll ever see Guiton and Braxton on the field together. With health still a concern for Braz (don;t care what has been said, I remember Neb), Guiton's health should be a premium as Cardale is NOT ready in any form.
Urbz has the right idea as I know Cardale has gotten some time in some special packages... we'll see if they ever see the field.
Cause I couldn't go for three
He will play. Period.
Tailback!
He will play...against Miami and UAB (:
Lagged+double posted, my bad.
If life imitates my NCAA '13 play he's going to have dreadlocks and be terribly inaccurate in the red zone.
Meyer is not like Tressel when it comes to backup players -- when the time comes, the backup quarterback and other players will be in the game getting QUALITY reps. What I mean by quality is that Meyer isn't going to care a lot about hurting the other team's feelings, so when he puts the backup in toward the end of a game, he will continue to call plays just like he would if the game were at the beginning and Miller was in -- that's how you get your backups quality reps. Tressel was awful about this -- he'd put the 2nd and 3rd string in and then call run, run, run, punt because he was afraid of hurting the other team's feelings and this led to those units basically getting zero worthwhile playing time.
We were fortunate during the Tressel era to not have any significant injuries to our starting QBs. 2011 was the first real experience we had where we had to see the result of not having a quality, prepared backup QB ready to go in (and having an incompetent OC and OL coach did not help matters either). The result was the worst team since 1897.
So to answer the OP's question, Guiton will see time as early as possible and it will be quality time. If things are under control he may play entire 4th quarters and possibly parts of 3rd quarters depending on how the games go. I think by the end of the year we will again be forced to look back on 2011 and Bollman's extreme incompetence to wonder how on earth Bauserman was ever selected to play ahead of Guiton in some of those 2011 situations.
At least we know he can come in and do better than this against Nebraska...

hahahahaha awesome @hop. That was my background for a few weeks last fall
Just to repeat what everyone has said - he'll play for sure. Maybe even more than we all expect. I would imagine he will see time any time there is a significant lead...which is hopefully often!

I don't remember Urban giving his backups much playing time. I can still see the replays on Espn of Tebow slinging it downfield, late in the 4th quarter, with Florida up by a gazzilion. It used to burn my butt.
