Future of Recruiting at PSU

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on how PSU/any program in this situation could deal with it on the recruiting front. Its obvious that the lack of scholarships and bowl ban are huge slams against anyone trying to recruit top players to Penn State but I think this idea that they may be awful for the next 10 years or so isnt entirely accurate...In a couple of years they wont have the depth but maybe one tactic they could use to get top prospects is to offer immediate playing time. If enough good players go there because they can play early then by the time the suspension is over, Penn State could be in a situation like USC is now (preseason #1) and have plenty of quality depth and experience... just a thought. I am not a believer that Bill OBrien's use of NFL prep to lure recruits will work that well, but perhaps early playing time in a BCS conference will.

I think the differences between USC and Penn State are many.  First of all the bowl bans and scholarship reductions are longer so it will chip away at that their depth and strength over a longer time period.  Also, USC benefited from the fact that they appealed the sanctions because the bowl ban is over and they are just now starting scholarship reductions.  So they can still promise recruits a shot at the Rose Bowl or national championship and prior to that they still had the full number of recruits while they were banned.  Also USC is in California, with a lot more top recruits than western PA and USC has recruited better than PSU for a while.  Lastly, the situation at PSU might scare off more people just because of the nature of their offenses.

I agree that they could rebound faster than a lot of people are anticipating (they still have 100,000 person stadium with a lot of community and fan support and university resources (although those may take a hit here soon).  But they should not anticipate being back on top as quickly as USC.
