This guy is a troll. He was a troll on Bucknuts, and he's trolling us now on EW. Don't listen to anything this guy says, it's all 100% BS. Besides, his "bits of information" don't even mean anything.

Who the hell are you? I don't even post on Bucknuts. And if I was a troll, how is this topic considered "trolling"? This is a topic this will be discussed over and over the next few days, AND it does nit paint Paterno in a positive light. So please explain how ANY of this can be considered "trolling"?

Are you referring to Mattincincy, Ohiothomas?  I know the Bucknuts crowd was not fond of him.  Might be a stretch to assume it's same person (if that's who you're even referencing) just because the username includes "cincy."

As non-informative as this thread is, cincyosu is harmless.

I really only started this as a place to post, rather than have 15 diff threads on the same topic. I'll prob just delete this seeing as most are posting on teh Buckshots article.

Crap I apologize a thousand times Cincyosu!!! I quickly glanced at your username and thought it read Mattincincy, and then when I read your post, it reminded me of something he had said on Bucknuts about Joey Bosa to offset us fans. I am so sorry for my stupidity lol

I've got to say that I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA hit them with the "lack of institutional control" when all is said and done. This scandal and coverup went on for a decade and University ethical conduct is specifically written in their by-laws. For those that think the football program should be spared because the "bad guys" were fired already need to understand that the connection to the football program is imprinted upon these horrible crimes Sandusky commited. Sandusky used his coaching connections and the Penn St. football facilities to gain access to children in order to rape them. We are talking rape. Not recruiting violations, smoking weed, $100 handshakes. We are talking about rape of children! What did the upper management in Penn State do when they found out what was going on years ago? Oh, that's right, they asked Sandusky to "not bring his 'guests' into the facilities" (per FBI report). Wow,...they really tried to stop what was happening. If you're not going to protect children in our society, who the hell would you protect? Firing Tressel for what he knew regarding recruiting violations pale in comparison to the conspiracy at Penn State. I hope we can all agree on that. Firing Tressel didn't save OSU much. I don't think the gutting of the Penn State heads will either. I don't see the NCAA falling on a sword for Penn St. in this case. Their reputation is on the line and I beleive the football program will be shut down for a season. A more positive penalty would be to force Penn St. to donate a majority of their football income this year to child abuse charities or the like. Sorry so long.

Kind of ironic that Tressel is getting lumped into this by some folks when he was trying to "protect" his kids and Paterno was trying to cover up someone raping them. Pales in comparison to me. I'm not saying that thats what your implying BuckIfan4life.

Sorry to say this but...nothing will happen to PSU.  NCAA will listen to ESPN and others about how this isn't a collegiate level of punishment...it's a legal thing (is what the NCAA will say just like Pat Forde at CBS or ESPN or w/e he's at these days).  Even though this REEKS of lack of institutional control not to mentioned covered up for 14 years to maintain respect for Joe and PSU football legacy.  Read this below and you'll all see what I've been saying for months now...it won't happen (as much as we want it to, at least I think, we all should feel that way).  This was WAY worse of a cover up than OSU and Tress (or perhaps worst college story ever).  However, IMO it won't be taken to the severity it should.  It all, if not mostly happened on PSU campus in or near the football complex.  It's sad folks, but nothing will happen...sorry to be a negative nancy.

If I'm PSU I impose the same punishment that OSU received and hope for the best. That should be the minimum received if not outside football consequences by the gov't on the university.

"Nothing will happen to PSU"

If the coverup for at OSU dealing with free tattos and the like is regarded as unethical conduct by the Football program and punished as it was, how can they even begin to let PSU sidestep the deplorable, irresponsible, highly unethical conduct that transpired for over a decade without a harsher penalty?

I think you are dead wrong, but we'll see...

@ BUCKI

You would think...but as I've come to learn when it comes to the NCAA -- whatever makes the most sense is usually the last thing they do.

Looks like Paterno's statue is coming down now. Some believe the scandal is not a football issue. If not, why take down a football statue? This is just the beginning and I stand by my belief that the sanctions against the Penn State football program will be severe. A one year football hiatus is not unlikely. It's all just such a sad mess...

The linked article is from BEFORE the Freeh Report came out. Forde even says in the first couple of paragraphs that if the FR shows violations, then let the NCAA investigate. Forde has written more recent articles saying he is for punishment, just not quite the Death Penalty some want to see.

I'm not really sure where you are getting the feeling this isn't being taken seriously? Emmert has said he wants answers and severe punishment is looking likely. The issue is if the NCAA CAN get involved based on how their bylaws are written. It's pretty clear Paterno and others committed the same ethics violation that doomed Tressel, but that MIGHT be all they can levy penalties for under their power.

I personally dont want to see the death penalty. I'd much rather see them play, but with SEVERE(more than USC) restrictions that make it very difficult to be successful on the field. Alot of ppl are clamoring for a "culture change"...what better way than to completly humble a program for several years than to guarantee sub .500 seasons. That would devastate a proud program like PSU and those close to the program won't forget what caused it....sparing those who did nothing to bring this on.

There goes the statue. Next comes the hammer if the NCAA has any ethical standards...

Spanier: The building is on fire!  We must alert the police and evacuate the building!

Curley: I agree!  But let's go ask JoePa what he thinks.  That's the way things are done around here.

Schultz: I guess it couldn't hurt.  Let's find out what JoePa thinks.

Spanier: Fine.  Go.

. . .

Curley: JoePa says this will hurt the university.  You know, if we tell people that one of our buildings is on fire, then they'll think lesser of the university, the football program, and most importantly JoePa.

Schultz: I guess that's what we should do then.  If the fire doesn't admit it has a problem and leave, then we'll sit it down with the fire department, with or without its cooperation.

Spanier: That seems to be the humane thing to do.

Curley: AGHHH!  The door handle just burnt my hand!  What do we do?

Spanier: Maybe we should ask JoePa again . . .
