Donovan Munger a silent commit?

Haven't seen much on this kid in a while, but ESPN is reporting this morning that there are talks that he is already a silent commit to UFM. Anyone hearing anything else on this?

If anything it would be on the o-line, but I haven't seen/heard anything. I call bs on ESPN. He's also still reporting offers to the media, something I would assume he would stop doing if he were a silent commit.

Could be BS, but it wouldn't surprise me. He said a couple months ago that things were starting to pick up and he'd have to make a decision soon.

Would probably mean Finley is the odd man out.

I'm curious what any recruit's motivation would be to commit "silently?"  Is this like a "soft commit?"

I have heard this in the past....I think there is a spot for Munger right now

Seems like a guy you take because he can be plugged into the OL or DL, figure it out down the road.

Between Price, Munger and Hill where is the OT? I don't see one. Do we really need two more DT and one OG or two OG and one DT? Is Ferris really going to move to OL?

I think a silent commit is a recruit saying he's not ready to decide but if he were to decide today it'd be Ohio State.. So basically it's just a step below a verbal

@North, They might have been "done" with OG's because of the DT/OG type committs. And I thing you are right, I don't see a OT in that group.

Mewhort has another year after this season, and you have Decker and Dodson and Lisle as a freshman.  That's 4 tackles.  That is also not including Farris, and Norwell's ability to move to tackle.

Me and Alex were discussing this amongst ourselves earlier.  Their isn't a huge need for tackles in this class, but I do see one more, whether it be Finley or someone else.  There's still time.

Yep, plenty time. I'm not saying the staff is screwing up - not at all. I just find the whole recruiting scene interesting and enjoy the speculation.

Makes sense Derek as long as those guys work out, which I think they will. Not getting another other than Lisle this class probably means that OT is a must get next year though.

The good news about it being a must get next year is we're in a lot better position for some of the top OT's next year than we were this year.

Is it realistic to expect anything from either Darryl Baldwin or Chase Ferris if they are in fact offensive tackles?

I am more optimistic on Farris.  If not another OT in 2013, I would expect possibly up to 3 for 2014.

Seem to be in good shape with a few already that includes Knox, Brown, and Byrne. Not saying we are ahead for the 3, but definitely in the game for them.

Finley and Munger would be great additions...not sure about all this silent verbal stuff.  They're either in...or not.  I'd personally like to see them both in and soon!  These spots will fill fast...if they're going to commit.  I've never seen anything on espin or anywhere else that states "silent" verbal btw.  Link? or is there one????  Nothing but on here...not sure I'm buying this...

The whole, "were not taking another guard comment" leads me to believe that they're converting a DT into a guard on the account the staff is not currently pursuing any 2013 guards. With that being said Billy Price has said numerous times the staff has not mentioned converting him (which they would more then likley do if he still has a full year of highschool ball to learn a specific postion) so i'm guessing they're going to take Munger as a guard.

I REALLY LIKE THIS KID, just the name Donovan Munger sounds like a nasty linemen and with his power and frame I see some optimism with him and Evan Lisle.

Has Munger set an announcement date? That's the only way I see the purpose of a "silent" commitment. He has already agreed that he would be committing, and just didn't want it public yet, but also needed to hold his spot. If he hasn't set an announcement date then what would be the purpose of committing silently ... Lol ... That's funny in itself ... I don't care if we don't get another tackle this recruiting cycle if BIG-TIME defensive linemen want to commit, then you accept them. I also think as others have stated their not as bad off on the OL as some may think.

I'm not overly impressed with either... if we have space late, then maybe, but otherwise start working on 2014.... we brought in some VERY good prospects in '12 (as Derek said). In fact we could put together a solid starting line with the just '12 guys: RT Dodson, RG Elflein, C Boren, LG O'Connor, LT Decker... that could be a hell of a lineup.  Plus Brown and Carter (though his future is DLine) and now Farris gives you some depth.  That's all in ONE class.  Lisle will add more depth at Tackle, and Price could even flip over,  so now we have a full line and subs for half of them in two classes, not too shabby.

There is NO reason to spend a scholarship reaching.  The staff seems high on Finley, but don't expect UFM to push too hard.  Munger looked a lot more liekly until Hill commited removing really any room on the DLine, undercutting his versiatiliy (why do you need the versatility in a loaded positon?).  Unless someone blows up in the Fall (would not be the first or last time that happens), I consider this OLine class finished.

Cause I couldn't go for three
