First thoughts - this late in the process? There must be some loose roots in this commitment to michigan. With 2 or 3 other guards committed in their 2013 class (bosch, fox, kugler) it might be reasonable to see why the depth chart might be a concern for this young man. it's also worthwhile to mention he's from detroit cass tech, same school as osu target finley at offensive tackle. any thoughts on our odds here?

“It feels great to know that [Ohio State coach Urban Meyer] offered me,” Dawson said. “Down in Florida, he won a couple of national championships. He’s a great coach.”
(later reconfirms his commitment to tsun)

Low. If he decommits soon, that changes everything. Considering he will be camping at Florida's FNL...
Does that violate Hokes no visits policy?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
It's not a visit, it's a camp, so no? That was the clarification provided at The Opening. I think it was Bosch that said Dawson had been talking about decommiting and that one player does not a class make.
yes it does, which is why he isn't going anymore. he made some waves at the opening when he announced it, but one conversation with hoke and it was out the door. it's worth mentioning that this is a young man who has been through a lot recently. lost his dad a few months ago in a work accident.
i don't think we have a prayer of landing this guy. and i doubt that the depth chart will be a problem for him; he seems to have been by far michigan's most college ready and dominant OL from this class. fox and bosch haven't impressed, LTT is out of shape and fighting an injury, and kugler (although supposed to be pretty good) hasn't been on the camp circuit this year. dawson leaving would be a huge loss to michigan, but i doubt it will happen; especially not to osu. i don't care how good of a recruiter UFM is.
it was frustrating watching him stand up billy price in all their 1on reps from practically every camp they were at together. that smirk he has on his face after dominating price shows a real pride and mean streak to his game
There it is: http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/report-michigan-football-commit-david-dawson-will-no-longer-attend-camp-at-florida/
I've said it once and I'll say it again...I don't see anyone from tTUN or Penn State or possibly any teams commits flipping this year to UFM like last year. Last year it was the honeymoon and excitement period when Meyer was hired. I don't see that happening for the 2013 recruits. We'll see but it looks like all that could flip aren't going to (D. Thomas and this guy and so on)...IMHO of course, but it really does seem that way.
To this below: Wait till they get bigger faster and stronger (not to mention put pads on) and see what Price does to him then. 7 on 7 is good for skill position players to shine, but linemen don't have that 10-15 lbs of equipment that will make a difference when going live in game type situations. We'll see but I think Price, Bosa and Hill will dominate these tTUN/B1G O-linemen...may be biased but really feel this is what will happen (not to mention Schutt and all the 2012 recruits). OSU's D-line will be down right sick...from now on. If Price is moved to Offense, then disregard this point;-)

What happened to "we aren't looking for a guard anymore?" Kugler has been recruited as center, btw, not guard. And I agree that depth isn't a real concern here. Despite the last two recruiting classes, michigan is scary thin right now on both lines... and Dawson is arguably the best guard in either of the last two classes.
I wonder if this has more to do with Meyer trying to better his chances getting kids out of Cass Tech in general.
@Buckeye76,
I would check out @rivalsmike this morning. He would disagree with you. He's usually right and predicts some decommitments from PSU (starting with Webb).
247 shows Dawson took an unofficial visit to Vandy on 7/9.
One thing I noticed about D.Dawson standing up B.Price is the fact that he did it 3 yards in the backfield, I'll take that any day. You want your DT occupying the C/OG, and keeping your LBs clean so they are able to scrape, and make plays. B.Price isn't going to be a sack master, but he will be a hole clogger I'll take that, if he brings even the slightest pass rush ability that's all the more to the good.
Dawson is good(very) and that is that ! On the 1 on 1 in Columbus camp Price and him did go against each other 1 time...Price wanted a rematch and L. Bentley wouldn't let it happen..Also notice Dawson started a lil' b4 Price on the tape...But Dawson did slow Price up....Different story(IMO) in pads...He might end up being pushed into the Qb/Rb......just an opinion....How many reps did Dawson take at that camp? I was there...Why is it the only shirt ripped in these 1 on 1's was Price's?....I watched as 2 of the 6 times Price went against people they held him....And 1 was a kid from Mich...........Price and Dawson will be good in College....
Since Dawson cancelled his visit for FNL a few weeks ago, so I'd say he's pretty solid at UM.
@Bama: I'd say he wouldn't get that kind of penetration outside of a dril made for DL's to win, I wouldn't take a drill without pads as gospel as far as realism is concerned.
I don't get this. from what I've seen, and from what billy price said, we have no chance of flipping him
born and raised in Cleveland
@buckeye I.8 ... I never took it as gospel, but if it meant nothing I doubt they'd do it at every camp. Did B.Price make it to the dummy nope, not even close, but for the position he plays, I'd take what he did. This was power on power, none of that cheap stuff, just running around the end, no spin moves just two big boys going toe to toe. Oh and this isn't a crack at D.Dawson because he is a MAN!
@Bama, not saying it's "useless".
But the experts themselves will be the first to tell you that they're set up in a way that the result is that the DL is expected to win more than he loses. Which Price did overall, and who knows what would've happened with a better sample size, but you don't get much more stood up than he did in that one rep.
This inequity in the drill's result is the reason that once you make it to the Opening, you do 2 on 1's with pads on to simulate a realistic blocking scenario. The 1 on 1s in shorts and a t shirt is just to give the coaches an idea of what a kid's tools are.
Agreed.
