so I put this in another thread, but wanted to start a new one to get some people's opinions......my guess is that we sign 3 more players: Mike Mitchell, Vonn Bell and Robert Foster, and here is my reasoning:
Right now we stand at 79 scholarship players after the Klein dismissal. We have 13 seniors on this team. Let's also assume Big Hank jumps ship to the NFL. There is also going to be attrition, and my guess is 4 guys will not be on the team come spring ball. That puts us at 61. If we sign 17, we are at 78. I think we are going to bank those 4 scholarships, along with the 14 seniors that will be gone after we win the national championship in 2013-14, and the natural 3-4 players who will leave for whatever reason. As we all know, we are in on so many top guys for 2014, and that class is ridiculously loaded, plus it is the last year we have to be at 82. Knowing all of this, I think sticking at 78 is the way to go for the 2013-14 class, and then Urban can really load up on talent by getting anywhere from 19-22 guys, depending on how many leave the program. We may get more, as I think a lot of the guys currently on the roster are going to be passed up on the depth chart by guys Urban recruits, and they'll transfer elsewhere. I think ultimately the 2014 class is going to be a top 3 class, maybe even the best overall defined by star average. I think we are ok this year as far as depth goes, and a lot of players will be weeded out, which will open spots for the 2014 class. Again, this is just my opinion, but the more I look at the realistic targets that remain for the 2013 class, the smarter I think it would be to just bank what's left and look forward.

So you're saying you want to leave our 2013 class where it is now? There are still plenty of great players available out there such as Robert Foster, Mike Mitchell, Vonn Bell, etc.
LOL, I just re-read your first paragraph, and we mentioned the same 3 players. Anyway, there are still other great players out there, and I just don't think our staff will be done even if we land those 3.
no, I stated those 3 guys are who we finish the class up with
I really hope we are lucky enough to get the three recruits you named
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Hankins said that unless he would go #1 he wouldn't leave. Wants a shot at a NC, so don't "assume" it. His words.
the only one I'm not confident with is Foster, b/c nobody truly knows how the staff feels about him
well that's good that he says that, just one more awesome player on the roster......
I am not confident with any players until they actually commit, too many surprises with the 2013 class already
I would be shocked if we banked 4 scholarships for the 2014 class.. 1, maybe. These kids still have a whole senior season to play and impress the coaching staff. I think new names will emerge throughout the high school football season and we will end up utilizing all scholarships available, except maybe 1.
Also keep an eye on a medical redshirt for Hall- not saying it's likely at this point but it would mean one less available scholarship for next year.
If Hankins has the type of season we all hope/expect hime to have, he is gone, and he'll be right to go. A football career is short and uncertain. You have to take what you can when you can.
@AHH agreed. It's almost a guarantee that he has a productive season at his body type, interest at a top 5 draft spot will at least be shown, and it's unlikely he'll resist.
To be honest, if Big Hank has a great year, I hope he goes pro especially after watching some folks come back for their senior years, and then falling down the draft or getting hurt. We'll be fine on the defensive line, and for every high 1st rounder placed in the NFL it only does OSU good on the recruiting scene ...
There will be no banking of scholarships...GUARANTEED
Pretty sure Tyquan Lewis is gonna commit judging from that interview from the opening. He said Urban is really putting the full court press on him and that he's in constant communication with him and his family

I think we have to take what we can get... Especially at the skill position. I think we should take Mitchell, Bell, Foster, Gibson, Lewis, and either another receiver or LB if they want to commit. No need to bank scholarships... Tressel didn't leave us in a hole recruiting wise, but Meyer needs to get players in that fit his system. I say we use all the scholarships at our disposal.
