I update the Visitor List, but 2014 QB Caleb Henderson told me he plans on coming to Friday Night Lights.

After seeing that Henderson referred to tOSU as his "dream" school, I think UFM is in good shape with him.

It is interesting... it seems that the staff is targetting pro style QB's for 2014.

Alex, who do you think the staff likes more at this point. Henderson or Barker? And how likely both or even neither get an offer soon?

buck-I.8's picture
buck-I.8 on 17 Jul 2012 - 12:51pm #

@steensn They're targetting a certain type of QB that could go either way. The point is, to run the spread, you don't need a dual-threat guy, just as long as you have a mobile quarterback. Crest, Barker, and Henderson are all pass-first guys, but can really move when it gets tough, and that's probably the most dangerous combo there is.

steensn's picture
steensn on 17 Jul 2012 - 12:53pm #

That makes sense and what I would expect... but so much has been made of having a move first guy in for Urban's offense that I expected more focus on those guys. I'd rather see a prostyle that can move like an Alex Smith, but a Tebow would be just fine as well :)

Maybe they take one of both? Best pro guy they can get and take Kizer as an athlete?

buck-I.8's picture
buck-I.8 on 17 Jul 2012 - 12:55pm #

I don't think Kizer's interest in OSU is as high as it is in Michigan, I'm afraid. Not saying that can't change, but at this time I don't see him in the class. I think they'll take Watkins as an ATH, along with at least one of Crest, Barker, and Henderson

STEENSN, Caleb thinks he is a spread type QB and that is why he switched to Lake Braddock, to play in the spread...he's probably more of a Brian Kelly type spread QB, but he can move better than you think and maybe fits the Alex Smith mold.....Barker probably moves a bit better right now though....

I honestly don't know GIRTH as word is Kyle Allen from AZ was better than both at OSU camp and then there is still Kizer, Crest, Watson, etc. etc. etc.....I think they like Henderson and Barker both a lot and know both probably wouldn't want to go to the same school, so they'll have to make a decision quickly and it could come after they see them at FNL or maybe after they get out to see them play this fall/get tape of a full game

I definitely agree with the point that this offense is ideal with the best possible passer at QB.  Since it's an option run game, the yards will almost always be there if the quarterback makes the right read, so a great deal of speed is not needed to pick up big yardage (And you don't have incentive to risk over running your quarterbacK).

Alex, I was thinking the same thing about both Henderson and Barker probably not wanting to go to the same school.

We also lead for Crest, wondering if he would want to go to the same school with another top 50 QB.

Personally I would love to take both Henderson and Barker and let them compete for the job.

See I think Crest is more of the dual threat type and I can see a dual threat with a spread to pass guy like Henderson....we shall wait and see.....I think they get one of Henderson/Barker/Allen and then take one "dual threat type" but that's just a guess right now

This kid reminds me of Colt McCoy! We all know how amazing he was in college.... That damn Fiesta Bowl

If Colt McCoy was 6'4", 220 lbs?  I'm not sure I see it...

If we take one of Henderson or Barker I hope its Henderson.  The kid has a cannon and I think his feet are more impressive than many on here think.

@125 He's McCoy, only he can see over the line better, has a stronger arm, and is most likely less injury prone. I'll take it

@buck-I.8 - Good assessment. I'd take that too. Please & thank you.

To compare a high school kid to a guy in the NFL and say he's better is kind of a stretch.  You can say he has the potential to be better based on body type, arm strength, footwork, height, speed, etc.....

GA:  I guess I can't speak for him, but I think when people say those things it is shorthand for either potential or at the same age.

i hope he has more arm strength and heart than mccoy. Mccoy cost me alot of money by sitting out against alabama.

mark may wins douchebag of the year... again

I'm not sure Colt sitting out the game versus Alabama had anything to do with either his arm strength or his heart.  He injured his shoulder if I remember correctly.

luckynutz's picture
luckynutz on 19 Jul 2012 - 1:05pm #

Please don't speak badly of colt mccoy around me. Being a browns fan, I watched him get planted every single down of every offensive series of every game. He never even had a chance to come close to suceeding with the browns. And if my memory serves me correctly, the NC championship game was the first time he missed significant time in a game his entire 4 year career. To call him injury prone off of 2 seasons in cleveland isn't fair. Every qb who plays in cleveland is injury prone before they even take a snap. Its called having a seive on the right side of the o line. Joe thomas is great, but he can't block 6 guys at once. Mccoy may not have been the tallest, or had the strongest arm. But the guy won games. 45 of them in 4 years to be exact. So if a kid reminds someone of colt, only taller with better arm strength, yes sir, ill take it.

4 year starter who had to take over for the greates UT QB ever gets a shot to win a title in his last game and you think he sits it out? Come on dude. He was banged up bad.

... Kinda makes you wonder, if Texas had McCoy for that entire game, might have to think the Longhorns are the Champions, right?
