Any one have any news on Gibson? I saw a report on twitter last night that he might be pushing back his announcement (I don't remember who said it), and now this morning @scoutohiostate tweeted that Gibson might be looking to take other visits and provided a pay walled link. While some of the recruiting losses lately have been disappointing, losing out on Gibson (long considered lock/silent commit) would really suck.

Yeah we seem to be in a bit of a slump. :(
Yea such a slump to be in the top 10 in recruiting 8 months before signing day.
Everyone take a deep breath and step off the ledge
"Slump" is the wrong word, but I think it's clear we are currently experiencing a fairly extended lull. If Gibson in fact starts taking visits, it is possible to express disappointment in that development while at the same appreciating what we already have in this class as well as remaining optimistic about how the class will finish. Not every statement of frustration regarding recruiting is made from "the ledge."
@ Buckeye06
No need to be argumentative / oversensitive -- we simply haven't had much good happen in the last 4-6 weeks with the Anzalone & Lewis decommits, and then word that Gibson MAY be taking visits. As "Ahh Saturday" said, not every statement that isn't positive equates to the poster in question stating it from the top of a skyscraper.
Hopefully some good news will come soon with camps already occuring. Friday Night Lights is still coming also I believe.
And yes, we still have the makings of a great class in progress.
^^^ Agree completely ^^^ ... Its cool to miss on prospects, its simply the way the game goes, but I think the fact that we've had de-commits, and the guys who were perceived "Buckeye leans" are going else where is what is concerning some people and rightfully so, and if this whole Gibson development is true then this is yet another instance.
I hear you Saturday, & you're right, but this particular post is all speculation. "Might be, don't remember who said it, might take visits" are all words used in the post. It actually could be a bummer if those things happen or if Gibson for some reason doesn't become a Buckeye. But this post seems like more gloom & doom when there is no real reason for it.
To the poster - no disrespect intended, but if your going to post about a possible problem, you may want to have more than this to back it up. Seems like tOSU fans are jumpy enough right now. Reporting bad news where there isn't necessarily any is just going to stir up rumors that there may be no truth to at all.

I provided twitter handle for the guy that said Shelon Gibson may take other visits and asked if anyone had any additional info. Not claiming to have any inside knowledge I'm not a member of scout so I couldnt read the article about the potential other visits. Not trying to stir the pot legitimately asking if anyone could clarify what I saw. Also not on the proverbial ledge merely stated losing out on Gibson would suck because hes a good player.
Recruiting 2013 is complete in February. It is June 10. It is not a sprint, it is a distance run. OSU people are so concerned about our recent lack of committs, but it is only based on UM's class being so large. Don't worry we will be fine. Try to remember we have a limited number of ships and are being extremely selective.
That said, Gibson may not even have a committable offer, so who is to even say we didn't ask him to take more time and visits. It is all speculation...especially if you are fool enough to believe the many internet "insiders". If you get source data from a coach, that is something. Anyone else = grain of salt.
Conveyer - like I said - not trying to be an ass, just rather there were more concrete info or evidence if someone is a going to post about potentially bad news.

I understand what you are saying, and I generally agree when posters are making unsubstantiated info seem to be fact, but isnt one of the points of forums to exchange information? I saw something wanted some clairfication and asked if anyone had any info, as often people on this site do. I don't know how credible what I saw was and that's why I asked, and the question still stands: anyone have any current info on Gibson?
@Toledo Gibson was Urban's first offer of this class and is just the type of player that fits perfectly in the spread offense, he is a consensus top 250 player in a positin which the staff has frequently expressed the need to improve in. I really doubt that his offer is non-commitable.
@Corveyer- There was talk on BN on the $ boards that Gibson''s June 20 date might not exactly be "solid". I have seen nothing concrete though, and haven't seen anything from Gibson that says that 6/20 won't be the day he makes a decision.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
It's hard for me to get too wound up over verbals this early. As we've seen already this year, guys back out on them all the time. They are fun to talk about especially during this time of the year when nothing is going on, but at the end of the day, meh it doesn't really matter til they sign on the dotted line.
I shiver everytime I hear someone say this but I really do think Gibson is a Buckeye lock. The only cause for concern is that maybe Urban has something up his sleeve and knows he's getting Robert Foster and maybe Gibson doesnt see much playing time and he knows that so he commits elsewhere IMO.
@Shady, I don't see that being the case, Gibson was Meyer's first offer adn Gibson would be more of a slot reciever where as you'd want Foster to be out wide. I think we'll definitely take Gibson no matter what.

Alex's absence from this thread has become conspicuous.
It would be interesting to see if Alex has heard anything solid about this rumor or not.

@Bj Mullens, yeah ur probly right but I was just thinking with Marshall and Foster (or Quick) then it will be awfully crowded at the WR position given that all the receivers currently on our roster are also very young and talented, not necessarily talented enough to leave for the NFL early, meaning they will be around all 4 years. Devin Smith, Corey Brown, Verlon Reed, Mike Thomas, im sure a few others im missing, i dont think he will see the field much until his junior year. IMO it would be hard to beat out those upperclassmen when theyre seniors and hes a soph. altho im not sure which of those guys are slot receivers and which ones are not.
@Saturday - agreed. He's usually pretty fast to come on & dispell a rumor...

Geez guys, they just had a big camp... give him a second to breath, hes writing stuff on those who were there!
Based on the way urban does things I don't think playing time becomes an issue. Just because those guys already there doesn't necessarily mean they will be the starters. Everything is a competition, and the best guys will get the spot. Regardless of class.
I think most people are being too extreme here. One one side we will not even have a top 10 class, while the other one says we still have a shot at the #1 rated class with all of Urban's favorite recruits when all is said and done.
I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Urban has lost out on some of the guys he really wanted. Guys he considered worth signing early and pushing for now. Losing a Anz and Lewis hurt, they were the guys Urban picked out and put at the top of his list. Does it mean we will have to settle for a two star guy out of Liberty Center, OH who wouldn't make it at Northwest Community College? Not at all... that is silly too.
Urban will likely continue to work down his list, probably find some late bloomers, but there is no doubt that Jaylon Smith is one of if not the best LB in the country for 2013. Not getting Jaylin lowers the quality we can achieve in this class, it is why the staff wanted him in the firts place. It isn't "Oh well, we're fine!" but it also isn't a doomed scenario. NO schools gets all their top targets.
So far, OSU has gotten a lot of their top targets and have a great quality ranking by all services. Continued we have a change to be top 5 easy. But as we miss out on guys that Urban put at the top of his list, the quality level gets worse and worse, but that happens to all schools, even Alabama. We'll "be fine" but we aren't going to be AS good with these guys or Urban is not doing a good job picking out prospects and we should all be worried. Not acknowledging that Urban lost his top targets means you are marginalizing his ability to scout and pick out recruits by saying his second tier guys are better than his first tier guys.
Personally - I think we'll have a great class. I don't think there's anything to this particular Shelton Gibson might not commit business - but had noticed that nobody officially came on & said that there was nothing to worry about. I also do realize staff members are busy covering the camps....

Has anyone heard anything new about this?

Gibson isn't a big talker, so in a situation like this he's a bit of an enigma. I wouldn't think he'll come out and make a statement unless Alex, or one of the osurecruit guys get ahold of him
Isn't it birthday week?
vacuuming sucks
We'll see if he still announces on the 20th. I was surprised to see he recently attended a camp at WV (posted in GSW's 6/16 Quick Bits thread).
tried texting Shelton this morning to see if the announcement was still on for his mom's birthday on Wednesday...there were rumors he'd be visiting other places but haven't heard those confirmed or denied anywhere...still am hearing all Buckeye and the only thing that will change my mind is if something on OSU's end changes because Gibson is all OSU
Any news on how he looked at the WVU camp?
I don't have any nor know anyone who was there
The links are just to his player profile, but here are two tweets I found.
Kinda strange how its been so quiet with him lately as his decision is expected soon. Any news on Vonn Bell??
That second tweet makes it a little less "alarming" I would think.
If he's traveling to WVU with his team, that's not that big of a deal. I'd say just wait it out and see what happens.
@Ohioste ... My thoughts exactly, because my 1st thought was why pay to travel to a camp @WVA when you could have camped @OSU, now that it's known he went with his school, I feel 10x better about this situation.
FYI : Just as the second tweet above stated, he was in WV for a 7 on 7 tourney with his team.
Glad to hear the WV trip was a team trip, otherwise that would be quite disconcerting.
