Ricky Seals-Jones

5* WR de-commited from Texas today.  http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/8014189/ricky-seals-jones-top-wr-recruit-decommits-texas-longhorns

The ESPN article cites his wanting to play football and basketball as a possible reason.  I wonder if Alex or anyone else knows if we ever had any chance at Seals-Jones before he committed to Texas.  Seems like with our lack of depth at the wing spot in basketball we could use an athletic freak like Seals-Jones.  Perhaps he can be a two-sport star here?  He's a beast of a receiver and would fill a big need as a playmaker on the outside for our Buckeyes.  Thoughts?

No offer from OSU.

Aside from Notre Dame, all of his schools are in the South.

yeah I dont see it happening either but if he's serious aout it theres not many programs that have been very good in both basketball and football like OSU has. In fact thats an interesting thought, how many programs are extremely competitive in both sports? OSU and Wisconsin in the B1G... cant really think of any others as far as final fours or regular sweet 16 appearances

dmcdougal is right, his top group according to most recruiting sites is composed of mostly big 12 and a few sec schools.  some kids just don't want to leave the south.  a&m and baylor are programs he's reportedly interested in, as they were among the first schools to offer him in both football and basketball.  i'll take any of the wide receivers we're in on, as we're in much better position and i could easily see ricky outgrowing the wr position (though he'd be an insane matchup problem at tight end)

UCLA used to be a basketball/football powerhouse. They still have the potential, both teams are having recruiting success as of the past season or two.

Sir Rick... If you're throwing Baylor into that category you might as well add Michigan State as well.

baylor is up there for 2 reasons.  first, he obviously has an interest in staying in texas.  second, they were one of the first teams to express interest in him playing both football and basketball.

I just read on Twitter (posted by Mike Farrell) that he now has Alabama, scUM, and Georgia ahead of Texas on his list.

I'm gonna go ahead and throw this out there-I don't want a guy on either team who plays for both. If you go after a highly touted WR you are expecting big things out of him. He is going to be an integral part of your offense when you aim that high. I don't want an integral part of the offense playing a second, D1 sport. Sorry kid but in my coaching world (the one I've created for myself) you pick one shape. The round ball or the oval looking ball. Can't have it both ways.

See Suggs, Terell.

@Bassplayer - Wish you were right on this one, but Farrell's tweet is talking about recruiting class rankings. The fact that Texas lost Seals-Jones puts them at #4 in class rankings, not in rankings for Seals-Jones.

Oh, oops, I did read that incorrectly.  My bad.

I'll take the kid in a heartbeat, and if you want to play two sports, and keep up with the demands of doing so then by all means go ahead. I think he might get an offer thrown his way, with the promise of him being able to compete in both sports. Heck he may try it, then decide it isn't for him. Most football players that play basketball normally stick with football because their height lacks for basketball, but is an asset with football, there are some exceptions to the rule however ... Charlie Ward, and Nate Robinson come immediately to mind.

Take him, put him on a basketball scholarship, he can't hurt a program and if he drops one sport just transfer it over to a football scholarship or keep the basketball one as is. If he's not good enough to play, don't play him and he has no effect on your scholarship count until he proves he should on the football field.

Basketball can handle a failure on scholarship if he fails at both.

I would love to see him come. OSU needs help on the recruiting front in bball as well. Didnt Ricky Dudley do it for awhile? I think if the kid is that elite its silly to make him stick with one sport. I am by no means putting him in this category but IF hes a Deion Sanders or a Bo Jackson it would blow my mind why anyone wouldnt offer them. As a bball coach it wouldnt bother me at all IF he's elite for both sports.
