Brophy's Allen is Gatorade AZ Track Athlete of Year
Phoenix Brophy Prep senior-to-be Devon Allen added another honor to his brilliant junior season, being named Gatorade Arizona Track and Field Athlete of the Year, after rewriting the Arizona high school record book.
Allen, who will be competiing Friday and Saturday in the 1st Arizona Sprints Showcase at Chandler High, broke a 32-year-old state record in the 110-meter high hurdles, then lowered it twice more during the season. He ran it in 13.52 seconds at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational, where he received gold medals in four events.
Two weeks ago, at a meet in Puerto Rico, Allen ran a wind-aided 13.32 seconds for the second-best time in the country all-time any condition.
He also set a state record this season in the 300 hurdles at 36.39 seconds. Allen was second to Glendale Deer Valley's Trae Armstrong at the state meet in the 100 and 200 meters in close races. He ran the 100 in 10.49 seconds and the 200 in 20.75. Armstrong won those races in 10.48 and 20.74, respectivley.
Armstrong and Allen ran 200 times that place them third- and fourth-fastest all-time in the state, behind only Olympic bronze medalists Dwayne Evans and Michael Bates.
Allen, who is an accomplished pianist and saxophonist, has maintained a 3.24 grade-point average at academic-challenging Brophy Prep, where he is one of the nation's top football recruits for the class of 2013 at wide receiver.
Fox Sports Arizona will streamline Saturday's Arizona Sprints Showcase starting at 6:30 p.m. with Amrstrong providing color commentary. Armstrong will not be running.
Rivalry intrigues DB Simmons
With every offer, Brandon Simmons (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview) seems to work that much harder during a practice or training session. The 2014 safety is nearing 20 offers, and more are expected as the summer progresses.
From a recruiting standpoint, no day seemed to make Simmons smile like Tuesday. It was then when the 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back received news that he picked up four offers in one day. In addition to Arizona and Boise State, Simmons learned of offers from Michigan and Ohio State.
“They came to my school during spring ball and offered me, but I didn’t know about them then,” Simmons said. “It kind of blew my mind. I look at myself as a good player, but I don’t really brag about myself. To see all these offers come, it made me feel pretty good.”
Buckeyes offer 2014 DB Quincy Wilson
2014 defensive back Quincy Wilson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Unversity School of Nova Southeast) picked up another big offer on Thursday afternoon from the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound corner prospect, who also has offers from Auburn, Florida, Clemson, LSU and West Virginia, says he was excited to receive the Ohio State offer.
"It's great to get an Ohio State offer," Wilson said. "I'm very interested in them and I want to learn more about what they have to offer."

Whoa. That's a lot of 2014 QBs. But no 2013 OLs... this makes me sad.
I think the 2013 lineman had their chance to shine at the last camp.
vacuuming sucks
I'm curious to see, now that OSU has their punter, if they offer any of the O-line guys who camped earlier this month.
I don't think we do, I think they meant that if they didn't get a punter then there would b a scholly for one of them ..
Nicholas l Ernst
From the sounds of it Christian Morris could be getting close to getting an offer
QB Tim Brady Jr.
Oh the fun we'll have with him if he goes to OSU.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
@Hail
As much fun as we are having now with Channing Stribling!
Those who stay wil be .......Diinner!!
Brady Joke
Doesn't D'Shawn Hand already go to Oscar Smith? If so that's crazy that one high school will have the top 2 players in the class, both on the defensive line.
EDIT: Nevermind, forgot he went to Woodbridge.
Hayze: Hand goes to Woodbridge HS.

There has been a QB Tyler Jones sighting, from Lakota West.
An offer to Snodgrass could be forthcoming, had a good day today. Snodgrass is done for the day.
Any news on how Barker did?
