Is it sad that I actually hope this happens?
They need to try this before they actually use it for a game. I get the feeling it will be disorienting, unlike the blue of Boise...

It is hard to play dirty against a man who picks you up.
I can't imagine how hot that field will be in August and September, players are going to start dropping from heat stroke.
I think thats a pretty BA field. I hope this doesn't become the norm and I HATE BSU's blue turf...but this one I like
"Love my State, hate the football"
Agreed with DOODAH, this is going to be terrible for both teams. Especially if the home team's wearing their black Under Armour jerseys. Not to mention, the "turtle shell" print is going to wreak havoc on a scrambling quarterback's eyes.
But I'm sure Edsall just loves this: it's distracting everyone from what a disaster he's been as head coach.
They have to get people to watch these games somehow. Certainly not going to watch for the quality of football.
It's good to be home.
I love the field, but as someone who has played on field turf before it gets HOT, and as someone else has already posted that black is probably going to be scorching hot. Very uncomfortable for both the home, and away team.
I would love to watch a game on this field, but i cant even imagine playing on it. between the unbelievable heat, and the tricks it would play on your eyes, i cant imagine it would be much fun. I would love to watch a game on this field though
I don't think the NCAA will allow it
This is what made Stefon Diggs pick Maryland over Osu and Florida

My other alma mater, ladies and gents. This is what happens when you let the Under Armour bro run your athletics department. Scary.
Taquitos.
This is what sad programs with no tradition do. No one cares about Maryland football. They can't even fill their measly little stadium. What a joke.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
I PRAY this happens. I think that field looks SWEET!
I remember seeing a rumor/picture that LSU was going to get a purple field a year or two ago. I personally really dislike the gimmicky fields.
You can kill a fly with your slipper or a cannon. Either way, the fly dies. -Ramzy
LSU will never get a turf field as long as Miles is their HC; he can't eat synthetic grass.

It's just a fan's rendering, wait til the real announcement.
Bucknut24 - I actually thought that it was against NCAA rules as well, but here is an expose of the mythical field color rule in a interesting Bleacher Report article about Boise State:
One of the more prominent myths regarding the blue turf, a grandfather clause granted from the NCAA allows it to be the only college football team to play on a non-green field. There actually is no grandfather clause because no such rule exists, according to the NCAA rules and guidelines.
The NCAA puts strict guidelines on the color of the end zones (must be different from the field), color of the balls (all must be brown) and the color of yard lines (white). However, the university decides the color of the playing field, and the NCAA can’t stop it.
Boise State was the first to play on a colored field, but that doesn’t mean they have to be the only. Texas Tech can play on black, LSU on purple. Even Oregon can change the color of the field every week to match their 400 different jersey styles.
It seems that others do think that the blue field gives them an unfair advantage when wearing their all blue uniforms. This is from an NBC Sports article about them competing in the MWC last fall:
According to the Idaho Statesman, one of the stipulations for the Broncos admission into the Mountain West Conference this year is that they will not be permitted to wear the blue jerseys at home for MWC games. Commissioner Craig Thompson hinted Tuesday that some current members of his conference wanted to make ditching the smurf turf a condition of BSU’s inclusion, but ultimately the membership settled on the jersey issue as they — the coaches — deemed it “a competitive advantage”.
There's no need to be nasty, some of us actually do care about Maryland football. It really is pretty easy to root for a program like Ohio State has, but much harder to still root for a team even when they suck big ones in a crappy conference like the ACC. Does it make you feel like a big man to put others down?
