Khaliel Rodgers info

According to Bucknuts, the staff is seeming to move on and Khaliel is an Auburn lock.

Seems to have been leaning this way for a while, onto Johnson I guess

I'm pretty sure we're gonna whiff on Johnson too. Hope Meyer can get some diamonds in the rough; otherwise we're gonna get some average to mediocre OL....

Come on naysayers.  I am pretty sure Lisle and whoever else they sign will be quality players.

I'm actually really excited about Lisle but I would like to see atleast 2 other quality linemen in this class.

Ye of little faith.  We are a fickle bunch 'round here.  They will sign quality players on the heels of Dodson, O'Connor, Decker, and Boren.  Even if they only sign 2 or 3 OLinemen in this class it isn't a big deal.  You don't think they can find 1 or 2 quality lineman to sign in the next 8 months?  It's June for chrissakes.

@ohiothomas....by average to mediocre OL do you mean 5* coached down to bollman standards or 3* coached to play with their hair on fire?

I'll take the latter.

I'm sure we all are at least a LITTLE disappointed at the way OL recruiting has gone for the 2013 class so far. I mean come on, some people need to open their eyes and admit that we've been looking at a number of OL prospects. Heck, the staff hasn't offered a single one of those OL recruits that went to the camp yet, so obviously Urban and the rest of the staff thinks that they are a 2nd option and not the best that they would like.

@Jedkat-- I'd take neither. I'd rather have 4-5* OL coached up to Warriner standards....

Will he still visit though? Is he a lock to Auburn, like E.Pocic was to us? I'm not writing him off until he cancels his visit, or commits elsewhere.

Just because a guy isn't being hyped in June before his senior year of high school doesn't mean he's a diamond in the rough or a crappy recruit.  These guys haven't played a down of their senior year.  Why don't we just chill and wait til November and December before we start freaking out about recruiting.

Ohiothomas1's picture
Ohiothomas1 on 15 Jun 2012 - 5:24pm #

You're right Btalbert, but there is still a slight sense of urgency as most of the top-tier talent (as of now) are committing to other schools. I still believe Urban will overachieve and will rid our worries.

That's all i'm trying to say is it's WAY too early to worry about it.  Guys change their mind all the time and there will certainly be other players who ascend up the rating lists their senior years, much like Mike Adams did in his.  Land a guy here, get a guy to flip there, and we're in business.

steensn's picture
steensn on 15 Jun 2012 - 5:32pm #

While more talent is certainly to be had after Senior years, it is clear that Khaliel is VERY talented and OSU would be better to have him. Can we get similar or better talent after evaluating the senior seasons? I'd say it is probable... but that doesn't mean it isn't a bummer if we don't get him.

Part of the problem is that Ohio doesn't have a Decker or Dodson caliber player this year (besides Lisle) it seems. Someone may emerge still, but so far it hasn't happened. This causes Meyer to have to look only at national kids first and the success rate on national recruits is ALWAYS going to be lower.

Remember what Urban said about B1G recruiting and SEC recruiting. B1G has earlier battles and SEC has later battles. Maybe Urban is not used to getting in on recruits so early. Maybe that is also why he had so much success last "year" in recruiting. Just some food for thought.

F--- Michigan!

@Jdadams01 ... You hit the nail on the head, I was thinking the same thing Ohio's OL prospects this year just haven't been too great, and I feel that's playing a major role in our lack of success recruiting the OL, but I'm not terribly concerned at this point because new players are popping up left and right now that the camp circuit is in full swing, and with a lot of the "Big Boys" of college football filling up there classes there will be some REALLY good players still to be had come FEB ...

Sounds like the staff isnt interested in guards.  They haven't even called the kid lately...strange.  Maybe only one more tackle this year. Love to land Dorian, but it seems like a reach...

PharmBuck's picture
PharmBuck on 16 Jun 2012 - 11:32am #

Just to remind everyone you generally only can have 5 OL on the field at a time...

"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."

Rodgers told Farrell after that he OSU is one of the schools he wants to visit...offer is NOT committable yet so maybe a visit changes that

Set your avi
Hayze on 18 Jun 2012 - 1:35pm #

His offer isn't commitable? I thought it was, especially because it is an area of need.

Alex, do you know which lineman do have commitable offers?

buck-I.8's picture
buck-I.8 on 18 Jun 2012 - 1:41pm #

@Hayze, since Rodgers is a guard, I wouldn't stratify him as a guy at a position of need. The staff has shown that they want a tackle before other OLs end up in the class. Probably the reason why Peterson hasn't been offered.

Set your avi
Alex on 18 Jun 2012 - 1:46pm #

Supposedly the Rodgers offer is not committable unless he visits...I think the new offer with Finley is committable now that they've seen him at SMSB camp in Michigan...Dorian Johnson's offer is definitely committable....those are really the only tackles offered and all G/C offers are not commitable right now

OSUBias's picture
OSUBias on 18 Jun 2012 - 1:55pm #

Isn't an offer, by definition, an invitation to come play football and go to school for free? How is it still considered an offer if they can't accept it? Isn't it really just a statement that we are interested in you, but more so than passing interest? The "non commitable offer" designation drives me nuts. That's like saying you have a date with someone if they tell you "hey i like you, and i will definitely/probably go out with you. Right now my calendar is pretty booked with these other people that i like. i'll keep checking it and if it works out and some space opens up, you're in."

When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."

@OSUBIAS

That's exactly correct. There are tons of threads here on commitable/non-commitable offers.

razrback16's picture
razrback16 on 18 Jun 2012 - 3:51pm #

@OSUBIAS

Generally the non-commitable offers are contingent upon some requirement being met for the offer to become commitable. For example, with any particular player, they may want to see him perform in person to make sure he's good enough to receive the offer and become part of the class. If you're not a stand-out even after they see you perform, the coaches may continue to recruit you as a backup option for the position in case they run out of better options but not allow you to commit until they do actually rule out the better players at your particular position.

Obviously this strategy can turn some kids off, but at elite schools like Ohio State, it's a risk you have to take in order to get the best players you can. I'm sure the coaches would love to take everyone who wanted to be a Buckeye if #s were unlimited.
