My Scum friends keep saying that Michigan beat up on UFM and Florida while Teebow was QB and that it was the year after OSU got beat in the NC game by Florida. I don't have a good comeback for why that isn't a fair comparison. Does anyone have suggestions for how I can defend OSU against this attack??

umm - OSU beat Michigan that year (and the prior year), so who cares about some theoretical debate?
Michigan still sucks always works for me
Despite having Tebow at Q that year was pretty much a rebuilding year for FL. I exchanged comments with a Gator fan about all this, and there were some significant changes on both sides of the ball. I believe that was also Carr's last game, so there was a lot of win one for the Gipper going on. It was an impressive win for scum, but it was not the same FL team from a year earlier.
You can check the starting line ups for FL in both bowl games. I think there were some major changes on the D line. Michigan also did not lose one of their best offensive weapons on the opening kickoff!!!!!
Michigan sucks
That's all you need.
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
Also, remember, Cooper came to OSU after defeating scum in the Rose Bowl. Success in that bowl did not translate to any success against scum in his regular seasons at OSU. To reference a bowl game from years ago as a sign of good things to come is stretching it a little. Given the way things are shaping up, the rivalry seems to be revitalized with Meyer and Hoke calling the shots.
thanks for the information from those of you that weren't being dicks about it lol.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
In no particular order ask them about or mention . . .
- Rich Rodriquez
- Appalachian State loss (LOL) that same season they beat Florida. They also lost to Oregon 39-7 that same year to start 0-2.
- Chad Henne/Mike Hart 0-4 against OSU
- 2008 UM Record(3-9)
- Tressel's 8-1 record against UM (3-0 vs RR; 5-1 vs Carr)
- UM defense(or better yet lack of one) during RR's tenure
- 52 to 14 loss to Miss State in bowl game.
^ dont forget loss to toledo
They have a different coach and literally none of the players from that game are on the team anymore. It means nothing.
Florida had a 12-1 regular season and won the SEC title in '06, and went 9-3 in '07. Michigan had a preseason top 5 team, and underachieved most of the year until essentially that game. I always say that's the game where Michigan finally looked like the team they were supposed to be that year.
Class of 2010.
Ummm. I believe Tress was 9-1 against TSUN in all honesty. Unless you work for NCAA, ESPiN, or AACC.
Zacisone
You could remind them that tsun was blown out by usc that same year and they would have lost by 80 points if they played the same florida team the Buckeyes played.
and like others have said.... tsun STILL SUCKS.... :)
O H I O is the Buckeye State
That was the season sandwiched by two national championships
I would just say he won 2 (undisputed) national championships while at Florida and in the SEC. Michigan has ONE (split) national championship in the last 63 years. That should shut em up.
Just ask how Michigan did against OSU that year.
2 words--Appy State!!
I will say this for Meatchicken... That beating of Florida should have been a lot worse if Mike Hart learns how to hold onto a football.
Florida was in a down year, Michigan played their best game in all 3 phases.
I would tell your SCum friend that win is about as garbage as this past years in over us. You played our JV team and gave up 34 pts to a stagnant offense, and were 3 missed fade routes from getting beaten at home by a Freshman QB/ injury riddled team!
I say let him sit on his high horse for now, because it will make the hard fall down feel even better come November.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
This image should suffice:
I guess I'd also mention that he was 16-2 in rivalry games at UF...
It's a stupid argument... we played head to head and they lost. There is nothing else to discuss after that, so call them out for being stupid and trying to create smoke screens to cover up the fact they lost head to head in 2006 and 2007 :)
Further, tell him he is an isiot for thinking one player means "its the same team" ask him if he can count past one... 9 of 11 on defensive starters and 8 of 11 on offensive starters were lost. Having a hard time seeing them as the same team. Teboew wasn't even a starter on offense in 2006.
Short anser, your friend is an idiot...
I used to live up there as well, was a fun time to live there.
2. Lloyd Carr was the coach, not brady Hoke. He was at Ball State going 7-6 and losing to Rutgers 52-30 in international bowl.
3. Michigan lost at home to OSU 14-3 and had a total of 91 yards of offense in the game... A game in which Tressel called one pass play the entire 2nd half.... Essentially beating them with an offense for half the game..
That should suffice..
Oops... How did I lose #1?
1. it was the last time Michigan played inspired football, and it was for a retiring head coach...
You realize its just some scUM fans trying to pacify all the loses to The OSU, by saying they beat a team that but us! TSUN fans are children
Wherever you are, there you be!
I think that is a hilarious debate. The only reason OSU lost to Florida that year was because OSU beat Michigan so bad, the BCS wouldn't let them play them again.
Play it like this:
You: What was the final score of that game?
A-hole: 41-35
You: So the defense couldn't stop you guys...who was the Gators Defensive Coordinator that year?
A-hole: Greg Mattison
You: Seems like Urban did his job, we don't have to worry about the coach who failed to deliver.
That should end it!
"Michigan and "huge mistake" are synonymous"

17 different starters. The End.
App State and Toledo at home is all you need to say. Not to mention the point their making is not comparable to OSU vs TTUN (and they know that). It's just an excuse to make UFM look like he's not as good as Hoke. Just show your friends one press conference of UFM and then show them this...www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPxPSzz0LBY
Good ole philosopher king always helps my arguements with TTUN friends....bc we all have em...just like excuses are like assholes;-)

I don't think the point was that _ichigan beating a team a year after OSU lost to them meant that _ichigan had a better team then. I think the point is them saying they know how to beat Urban, as evidenced by their huge sample size of one game. That being said, it is a ridiculous argument, and Donkeypunch said it best.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
Just say App State
So will there be a similar thread come November if Michigan upsets you guys in Columbus (in your national championship/bowl game)?
App State was devastating, but when it's brought up in an unrelated argument, it comes across as a cop out and very uneducated.

F--- Michigan!
It's not totally unrelated, it's the same year you all beat Florida. And the guy who's brining up Michigan beat Florida & UFM coached @ Florida therefore Michigan will beat UFM/OSU is a little insane in the membrane.
That was a trap game, it was Llyod Carrs last year at coach and SCum came out and played hard for him. Plus UF wasnt that good that year, it was tebows first year at QB and lost a lot of good players to the draft from the national championship team.
So, to make it relatable, any cupcake team that beats App state can by transitive property beat Michigan? That's what you're saying.
controversy was largely resolved when USC defeated Michigan 32–18
You have no defense. Clearly Michigan will establish a long run of dominance over Urban Meyer because Michigna beat a Meyer coached Florida team.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Congratulate them on their big win against UF (it's how they tell themselves they are not afraid of Meyer).
Tell them they are smarter than you (they feel this way already).
Tell them Tressel had to cheat to go 9-1 against them (don't bring up that selling clothing or getting tattoos can not possibly give you an unfair advantage on the field).
Let them know that you admire the UM overall record (The most important thing to a UM fan & they will mention to you if you do not bring it up first).
These tactics will be the best way to actually shut them up. They will be in shock. After The Game in November, should Ohio State win, there will be no need to talk any sh_t - they will be plenty quiet already. Just smile when you see them, remind them that they still have that overall record thing (they'll probably remind you first) because by that time they will no longer have anything to say or hang their hat on when it comes to Meyer. The loss would eat them alive for a year & that should make you feel wonderful....

I loved reading this post and the comments. I find it funny that any OSU fan would need help with this argument.
My take on UM's season: After the embarrassments against App State and Oregon, UM did recover somewhat and beat a number of good teams that year. With Henne playing The Game with a numb arm, UM never had a chance. Tressel, having the better team, just ground it out. The bowl game was a different story though. Everybody was healthy. It was Carr's last game. The players played inspired football. And, surprise, surprise. Carr opened up the offense the way he only did when he knew he needed to score points to win. Everything came together for one game. The one thing I don't understand, is why UM plays so well against the SEC.
I think my buddys main argument is that OSU got blown out in the NC game by Florida and he claims that TSUN beat that very same team in their bowl game the following year with Tim Tebow and UFM. And as pointed to above my buddy always points out how well his team does against the SEC which we have had trouble with. It drives me crazy lol.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
That's one of those things I can't explain. UM struggles more out west than I think OSU does. OSU struggles more against the SEC than UM does. We've had a couple of embarassments against the SEC though (Tennessee and MSU).
I found this stat, not sure how accurate, but UM is apperently 9-0-1 against Vandy. This takes away most of the advantage overrall.
Ann Arbor, I think we're all done here...you clearly didn't see 2 or 3 posts mentioning that the Florida team Michigan beat in the (oh wait, what was it...) Capital One Bowl had 17 different starters from the previous year's team under UFM. If you can't get that, and are still unable to comprehend why the two Florida teams themselves aren't comparable, then I pray for your sanity.
Also, it's a freaking game so stop sweating bullets and going crazy over it.
In addition to all the extremely valid point mentioned above, I would like to add that Ann Arbor is a whore and Brady Hoke is fat.
The end. You win.
Scum, please read my signature!
Go Buckeyes!!

Hey Ann Arbor Buckeye - what team is it that you root for again?
