1. Please keep in mind that the Meyer regime has yet to coach a single football game.
2. Please keep in mind that the 2011 Buckeyes were 6-7.
3. Please keep in mind that 2013 is going to be a smaller class.
4. Please keep in mind that the program is on probation.
5. Please keep in mind that scUM won the last meeting.
6. Please keep in mind that Feb. 2014 is a looooooong time from now and Feb. 2013 is as well.

Just posted this in another thread, but this thread might be more relevant:
These are the players in the 2013 class rated 4* or higher who have already committed to OSU:
Skill players: J Marshall, JT Barrett, E Elliot, M Baugh
DBs: C Burrows, E Woodward
DL: J. Bosa, B Price
OL: E Lisle
I would also be shocked if T Sprinkle and J Thompson don't get upgraded to 4* by LOID.
I really wanted J Smith in this class because of his outstanding athleticism, but the only whiff that has really hurt us so far is Pocic.
Thanks, Maestro! I'd double underline your point #6. At the very least, let's wait until January 2013 before getting hysterical.
Besides, Urbz is just waiting for kids to verbal somewhere before deciding which ones he wants to poach.
The Art of War by Sun Tzu:
IMO we have unbelievable quality in the 2013 class thus far. Everyone committed thus far should be rated as a 4* or higher (except for Sprinkle who will likely remain a high 3* prospect). I like the fact that Urban doesn't reach for prospects and we will have a VERY good class of 18-20 by national signing day IMO...
What the maestro said.
More offers = more misses. Relax everyone.
I'm very happy with the way recruiting has been going so far. That being said, people need to stop using the "the more offers put out, the more misses we will have" excuse. While that IS true, we have been missing out on a string of our number #1 and #2 choices which forces us to dig deeper. The only position I've been disappointed with so far is the OL but by no means am I worried about anything.
Just enjoy the summer, count down the days until September and leave the recruiting stresses to Urban an Co.
"Love my State, hate the football"
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
Excellent reminder. Thanks, Maestro!
Well said, Bob Cobb (if your name is indeed a Seinfeld reference)
Thanks for the reminder but I do hope things start picking up. We are far away from NSD but we are missing out on great recruits as well (Smith, Pocic, Analzone ect.). Not hitting the panic button yet. Go Bucks!!!
Let's also not forget the tremendous haul of players we brought in for the 2012 class. There was a lot of inital hype with the Urban Myer hire, and now that it has worn off I think a lot of recruits want to see what this team is really going to look like. Even for a guy like Urban Myer, and even for a school like Ohio State, it's hard to sell a product that hasn't hit the market yet. Despite the misses at OL and LB, this is a tremendous class of playmakers at the skill positions and we aren't even halfway to signing day. This could be one of the best DB classes ever when all is said and done.
@DMcDougal it actually is a Beastie Boys reference. Been my tag since my first email address way back in college. Gets confused with Bob Cobb often though. I don't have a home in Tuscany yet.
vacuuming sucks
Skill players: J Marshall, JT Barrett, E Elliot, M Baugh

I like how AHH Saturday laid it out for all of us, look at those impact playmakers. There are more sure to come. We will get either Gibson/Foster/Quick and hopefully Vonn Bell on defense. There will be some surprises in the next 6 months or whatever it is and our class will be top 5-7. Only that low cuz of the limited schollies. I still cant emphasize how excited I am for Noah Spence and last years recruits. We are sittin pretty.
That's good Maestro, because there's nothing available :)
It is not panicking to realize that OSU and Meyer don't seem to have the draw we hoped for initially. For reasons you mentioned, that plays into it. One good season and that changes, but for this class our quality haul is likely fading. Well have a great class, but we're not going to contend with Michigan or Alabama this year. That's unfortunate and as an OSU fan I hope for more.
OK Steensn. Maybe you aren't panicking, but plenty of people are.
I also don't get your comment about Meyer and Co.'s draw. No school gets every kid they offer.
vacuuming sucks
I'm not sure anyone's panicking. It's June. NSD is 7-ish months away.
I think we look at recruiting very one sided. We are all huge tOSU fans and can't fathom the thought of anyone wanting to go anywhere else. Sure we missed out on a few big names but how quickly we forget:
Spence/Pittman/Washington/Schutt on Defense
Perkins/Williams/Marcus LB's
along with Reeves/Dunn/Ball and a boatload of other talent who haven't set foot on the field yet. Put those guys in with some of the names from this year and I think we are well on our way.
Why the hell would anyone be panicking?
I do agree with Ahh Saturday except that is the class for 2013, not 2012. The class for 2012 with 4* or higher:
Skill Players: Brionte Dunn ( as we al know now, Michael Thomas should have been 4*)
O-line: Joey O'connor, Pat Elflein
D-line: Noah Spence, Adolphus Washington, Sevon Pittman, Tommy Schutt, Jamal Marcus
Athletes: Armani Reeves, David Perkins
With both of those classes so far under Urban Meyer, no reason whatsoever to panic! Those are only 4* or better. As we all know, 3* with a great coaching staff can be studs all the same.
These stats are based on the four letter leaders rankings, which I deem the worst, so that doesn't even include Kyle Dodson, Warren Ball and Camren Williams who I believe are going to be studs!
We've missed on number 1 and 2 targets as they stand right now, but you know what, by the end of their senior seasons, other targets, like guys with non committable offers, guys the staff are keeping an eye on, could be number 1 or 2 at their positions. Some guys come on strong late, like Adolphus Washington last year. Sure he was a great recruit coming into his senior year, but after the fact he was so dominant it vaulted him to a 5 star.
@Squirrel Master, wasn't Taylor Decker a 4* prospect?
I don't think anyone would be counting each and every prospect that signs elsewhere if Michigan wasn't number 1 in the country and Penn State wasn't nipping at OSU's heels. Under Meyer, OSU will continuously be in the top 15 nationally according to every scouting service out there. Sure, the gaudy top 5 rankings are fun to look at (and they will be in there plenty) but as long as they aren't struggling to sign people (hint-they aren't) OSU will continue to persevere and then proceed to kick the teeth out of their competition.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Brewster you are right, Michigan is number 1 because they have some quality, and 2nd, they have a huge class already. Ohio State will need to have more than 2, 5 star players to crack the top 5 with the relatively small class they are going to have.
Michigan's number one ranking won't hold up when Bama's class fills out, they've already passed them on 247. They might get passed by other schools also, time will tell. I think our class can be top 5 on the sites that take into account quality of recruits. (ESPN, 247 because the best 18 recruits get counted most)
Truth be told, I could really care less about where the class ends up ranked. If we end up with 20 recruits and a 2 are 5 stars, 13 are 4 star and 2 are 3 star, it's going to be a hell of a class, and I won't need any of the recruiting sites to give me a ranking to know it's a hell of a good class.
@brewster, buck 1.8, and bt, completely agree with your above statements. Was going to post a long winded message that was similar to what you all just stated, but I'm on my tablet and hate typing on this thing.
I've never been big on recruiting. I've spent the last few months trying to come up with a way to rate classes backwards in addition to forwards. It started with a hypothesis I had that if some sort of backwards measurement was available, Jim Tressel might be the best recruiter College football has ever seen. I don't care what a dude is rated as an 18 year old, I'd love to come up with a way to rate classes after the fact. I run into a few problems, I guess I'd use some sort of star rating, perhaps assign various point values to certain things. Games started, Stats, various honors, maybe even pro draft position? I don't know. Then of course comes the task of looking at the past classes and re rating...I digress.
Point being, OSU's ranking doesn't really bother me. Nor does Michigan's worry me. I'll worry about Michigan if these players turn out to be ballers and will LOL hard if they turn out to be leg pissers.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Brewester, it is still a good indication of how well each team is doing. It is worth looking at.
RX, not based on ESPN's rankings. Decker was a 3*. I know he was ranked higher by other sites hence why I went with ESPN's because as the worst rating site (IMO) there is still an abundance of talent to feast our eyes on for the coming years.
