ESPN has launched their new OSU site:

The timing of this launch seems interesting. Did they wait until their legal dispute with OSU ended before launching? Why today?

Yawn
vacuuming sucks
I actually asked Austin Ward, the new beat reporter about the timing, and he said "that was news to me." Not sure what to think, but the site looks good, and saw what you will about ESPN, but they are certainly comprehensive. A lot of insider stuff obviously, but also a pretty solid amount of free articles and interviews, along with a daily links section, which gives many other places to see free info.
Buck-I.8 - Yeah I was kidding about the timing, just thought it was a curious day to launch. And I agree, from looking at the site thus far, it looks good. I'll probably keep it in my rotation.

^so amazing
There's an article over there talking about our Top 5 targets. Anybody with a subscription care to elaborate on who they are. Be interesting to see if what they says matches up with what we've heard.
Wouldn't waste my money on anything ESPN

F--- Michigan!
@DREWBUCKEYE: My favorite part in that story was that a "ESPN" spokesperson declined to comment on the "ESPN" article, bahahahahahah! Frickin awesome!
Also, there wasn't one... NOT ONE... troll posting on that article in the first 157 comments when I was there. Hmmm....... but there definitely was alot of Buckeye fans getting their punches in that's for sure.
@HAYZE - it's not really an insider take on top 5 targets. It pretty much says, "these 5 players are in the ESPN 300, are uncommitted, and have 'an interest' in Ohio State." No surprise names: Green, Quick, Gibson, Hill, Munger
yeah it doesnt elaborate a whole lot on those guys either. like tbd said, no surprise names and it is a pretty short write up. i do like the site though; i definitely wont renew my insider but it will be nice for the next few months. i just hated seeing those other big name programs with their own sites and we didnt.
Anyone else read this today? Guy calls out Buckeye fans... http://urbannationarmy.blogspot.com/2012/06/ohio-state-fans-are-suckers-and-they.html

He must have pulled the post down. What was the gist of it?
Jason, Its still there, I just read it. Try the link again.
He says "Ohio State continues to sign muti-year multi-million dollar contracts with ESPN". Does Ohio State have deals with ESPN outside of the Big Ten Conference TV deals with the network?
It basically says OSU fans complain about ESPN but keep reading every article they write. So ESPN keeps writing them. And fans don't understand they perpetuate the ESPiN machine they hate so much. Kind of harsh, but kind of true.

Basically the article states the Ohio State fans think ESPN (or ESPiN) has it out against them. Then he goes on to say that that ESPN talks about everything Ohio State (especially the bad stuff) because it keeps Ohio State fans interested in ESPN. Apparently any article on Ohio State gets the most comments out of any other team/subject on their site. They call OSU fans "suckers" because of that reason. We think they hate us, yet we still keep coming back.
Yep, nothing different from what we've said around here for a while. Ohio State stories = pageviews. It's as simple as that.
I do think there's an additional dynamic in play as a result of Delany's response (including champagne) to ESPN's low-ball offer in 2004 and the fact that the network is a TV partner with the SEC.
ESPN is in the entertainment business, not the news business, so any pretense about them being completely impartial is absurd.
Jason, thanks for that Tribune story, really interesting.

Anyone else find it interesting that ESPN had any article regarding OSU infraction reporting as front page news(even when we all knew some of the reporting was extremely minor in nature), but when they lose in court you have to go to the buckeyenation page or CFB home page to see the article? Guess they really wanted the world to know Brandon Jacobs refilled some kid's piggy bank instead.
They post any Buckeye news on the front page because they KNOW fans will click it. Can you blame them? If your paycheck depended on clicks, you'd post whatver got clicks. It's simple. The fact that Buckeye fans complain about it is ridiculous. They want Buckeye news: any, all, and every kind. Don't blame ESPN for posting it. If anything, blame ourselves for reading it.

Sounds like espn's strategy is effective at generating high volume, but I wonder about the "per capita" commercial potential of the typical espn.com viewer. They seem to get very high numbers of kids, which is great for selling certain types of products, not so much for others.
Also, espn attracts relatively high numbers of dumbasses.
Espn's strategy might be a mile wide and two inches deep?
I still like ESPN and like the new little BuckeyeNation team page they got going on... I wish they would have done it sooner considering I've been a paying member for over 2 years now.
ESPN does a great job as a business... no question about that.
