It was a very nice setup. Urban, Fick, Vrabel and their wives, along with Mariotti were on stage. They had all the students sitting at tables with free snacks that were some of the coaches favorites, along with free Woody's pizza. Some performers to entertain before it started, then a whole bunch of pre-picked questions for the coaches and wives.

Vrabel and Fick were very funny, Urban was slightly more serious but cracked some jokes as well. There were a variety of questions, nothing particularly insightful but more just revealing of the coaches personalities, etc. I'm sure someone has video of it somewhere, I heard BTN was there and would air at least some part of it at some point.

By far the best part was when Coach Mariotti got up and made the whole crowd learn their "quick cals" that they are having the players do before practices and games to get the energy up. See http://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum/football/2012/05/urban-meyers-new-ohio-state-tradition for my write-up on this.

I wish Alex or someone on the staff could get Urban Meyer on here to answer some questions. Something that will always bug the he!! out of me is what went wrong in the 05 championship game. How did he demolish us so bad. That was the greatest buckeye team I ever watched. Im only 24 so I dont go that far back but it just seemed like a complete team with an explosive offense. I know u cant do this but OSU beat Michigan 42-39 or whatever it was that year and got KNOCKED OUT by Florida then the next year with practically the same team Michigan beat them in a bowl game. That proves they werent THAT much better than us. I just cant seem to let that one go. Was it the long layoff, bad gameplan, problems in the locker room, not prepared or was it a talent issue. Id like to hear anyones opinion on the topic but especially UFM cuz he coached them and now coaches us.

Yeah, you can't really do that, much like saying "If only he didn't throw that interception in the endzone during the second quarter, we would have won..."  Season to season is on a much grander scale, but each game is a chess match and the real-time results dictate playcalling, tempo, schemes, aggressiveness, etc.  Also, look at Michigan's defensive turn around from last year to this year (pretty much the same personnel), so you can't just look at the names and say "pretty much the same team."

IMO, both OSU and Michigan were better than Florida that year (Michigan went on to get manhandled by USC in the Rose bowl).  Maybe there was a letdown after the one and only Game of the Century; maybe our teams were just outcoached?

@SHADYBUCK - It was all because of OSU's collective focus; we came in high on ourselves while Meyer's crew had a chip on their shoulders.  Lifted this from another forum, per Alex:

One player on the team who was a freshman at the time told me interesting stories about both MNC title games. What you have to know about 41-14 is that the upper classmen were talking for weeks how they were going to roll Florida and it would be easy. They were cocky, went out partying and didn't prepare properly. As a frosh this player didn't have the guts to say anything but that's what happened.

@ Hodge,

While I think the team's attitude and focus were suspect, the team lost for simpler reasons.  Against UF defense we were outmanned.  Our OTs were like saloon doors for Harvey and Moss, and with Ginn out after the first effing play of the game, we had no receiver who could get open before Troy Smith was wearing a Gator jersey.  Against UF offense we were outcoached.  The "speed" of Florida's offense was largely the result of our defense not having any idea where the ball was and where it was going.

Did the cockiness and lack of focus contribute to the above problems?  Probably, but I don't think they can fully account for the ass whompin' we received that night.

Yeah - our boys looked like a steaming hunk of shit that particular evening. Ginn going out that fast did not help. Revisit the stats from that year to see just how much of the offense he really was. Dude was important.

The fact that our boys thought it would be a cakewalk also did not help matters. There wadn't a person in the US (exept a few in Florida) who did't have us winning in a romp.

The fact that Florida was just plain better helped least of all. That was a beating for the ages & I gave up trying to justify that game not long after it happened. I would however, love to hear Urbans take on it...

Read Urban's Way if you want Coach Meyer's perspective on UF leading up to that NC game. There's a whole chapter about it.
