Spoke to Alex quickly and here's what he said
- Urban recruiting him hard right now
- Gordon Gee wrote a personal email to his parents
- Considering OSU again along with Notre Dame, Stanford, Florida, PSU, and "maybe" USC....in no order
- Things are a little better for him now that the whole situation has calmed down and he'll be able think with more of a clear head

Great to know. Thanks for the update Alex. I sure hope we smooth everything out with him and get him to eventually recommit.
All sound very positive. You're killin it today, Alex, thanks for the updates
Appreciate the update.
With his prior interest and excitement, I think he may choose here...again
I agree Urbz... What seemed as a longshot at first continues to become more realistic as the situation calms down and cooler heads prevail.
Also I'm glad that Gee only e-mailed the parents. If he called I'd be worried, he's usually good for one verbal slip per conversation =)
Gee is good about emailing students back typically. I've received a reply every time I've emailed him.
yeah Urbz, he might have an "Urban Renewal".

I love Ohio State, and I love football, but if I had an offer for a full ride from Stanford my ass would be going to Stanford.
I would too 741. Especially if it comes down to academics.
@DMC Not verbal slips. The man just says whatever the hell he wants because he's a badass
@Buck-I.8 you are exactly right, it isn't a slip if he says it intentionally. plus his "slips" are usually hilarious in context (not always out of context).
@741: You are also exactly right, and that is why I don't understand why Northwestern can't get a better team together because they have a similar draw with academics (I guess their facilities are crap compared to Stanford though...)
Yea I love OSU, but no way I'd choose OSU over Stanford or Northwestern. Especially since I'm no good at football. lol. I'd still represent though lol. Applying to colleges next year! Wish me luck.
Guys, you can't believe everything you hear/read. 99.99999% of 4/5 star recruits pick a school that will help them get to the NFL. They may say academics are important, but that is a show they put on for their parents. With that in mind, there's not too many former Stanford players in the NFL
yep, Vanderbilt would win the SEC, Wake Forest/Boston College the ACC and Notre Dame would be top 10.
historically maybe not. but they had 2 first rounder this year, including the #1 pick, the first pick of the second round, and a third rounder. not freaking bad.
his intentional badassness tends to cast us in a bad light at times, so I appreciate his well-thought-out and well-revised written opinions whenever possible.
In many ways, college is what you make of it. I understand that Stanford is better academically, but I had amazing opportunities at the two universities I attended (undergrad was Ohio State), and I was more than prepared for my career in the end. I would not have chosen Stanford over Ohio State if given full rides to both schools, because to me, it would have been completely unnecessary.
You mean Duke would win the ACC
I agree that they choose to go to a school that would help them go to the NFL the most. My point is there is nothing magical about OSU that makes NFL teams select their players. If some of these better schools focused more on their football teams then they would have a tie breaker for people deciding between schools that places like OSU couldn't imitate.
I also recognize that these places probably just don't care that much about their football success (Duke has no other excuse).
And Virginia is no pushover in the ACC either

TOS has a interesting write up about Anzalone and how his father really didn't want him to go to tOSU and he used the picture as a reason to have Alex de-commit (as he thought that people would feel sorry for Alex and there would be no backlash) the general gist is because he honestly wanted him to go to Florida (his alma mater), however since Florida has 4 LB's in the 2013 class already that he may have to play H-back and that's not what the Anzalone's wanted to hear. Also Alex was glad that tOSU really wanted him still because he was afraid a bridge was burned, however that's not the case.
Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but wasn't Alex's mother with him on his visit, and not his father? Or was that Bosa?
Either way, I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that OSU is where Alex wants to be. His father doesn't want him here. And I understand that, my parents definitely influenced my decision to come here. But they influenced that because they're paying for it. Alex is getting a scholarship, I think it should be entirely his own decision.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
I'm pretty sure dad wasn't on AA's trips here, his mother probably had a more open mind about things.
Yah I think his mom actually went to tOSU, however I could be wrong (may have been Bosa). Either way they (TOS) thinks he'll come back into the fold and re-commit to the Buckeyes. I think we can all agree we would accept the kid back and he'll probably go on to be a great Buckeye. If he decides to go somewhere else, then good luck to him and we'll move on.
It was Bosa's mother that went to Ohio State and was with him on the trip. I would think Anzalone's father would have been on one of the trips with him here since he was here at least 3 times. Either way I wouldn't count on this kid in this class.
Would love to see AA come back. Great player. Unfortunately his dad just sounds like (as someone else termed it the other day) a "helicopter parent" that tends to get in his own way and in his kid's way at times.
